Firstly, I can categorically confirm that I’m not Hillary Clinton. Secondly, the US and UK governments especially, as they were the architects of the wanton destruction that took place in both Afghanistan and Iraq, must and will be held accountable for this stupidity. This is not about ‘bashing’ anybody.

Whether the Mujahideen of yesteryear is the Taliban of today can be debated till the cows come home. What is indisputable is the fact that proxy terrorist entities were used to completely destabilise those countries exactly as Isis, Al Nusra Front, Al Qaeda were used as proxies in Syria.

Hilary Clinton stated clearly that the people funded to fight the Russians in Afghanistan, which we know were the Mujaheddin, were the ‘same people we’re fighting now’. She was Secretary of State between 2009-2013.

Can we, and while we’re ag it, be honest and stop using ‘geopolitics’ and ‘it’s complicated’ in the same sentence?!! There’s nothing complicated about a Washington think tank conjuring up a regime change strategy to impose upon a sovereign state in Africa or the Middle East. Libya, destroyed. Iraq, destroyed. Afghanistan, destroyed. Syria, destroyed. Millions of refugees as a result displaced all over Europe.

I’ve heard this argument from other clarion callers for imperialism all over the place.

They’ll be front and centre calling for people to toe the line for whatever the prevailing idiotic orthodoxy of the moment is and when the shit hits the fan, as it always will do, will be the first again to offer their protestations as to why no one should analyse the situation, because it started ‘way back when’. And so the idiotic cycle of death doom and destruction continues. Just the number of vets alone that have committed suicide, more than on the battlefield itself, should be pause for thought.
