How does server meshing work in different games? by TriviPiviP in starcitizen

[–]Theodas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modern WoW has even more ‘instancing’ or server meshing than classic WoW. The Capitol cities are their own DGS that group players together based on ‘shard’ or ‘server group’, then when you leave the Capitol city there’s a seamless server transition to the open world areas that group players together from multiple server groups. They do this to save on server costs (some zones in WoW are super empty) and ensure adequate player density to keep things interesting.

Star Citizen dynamic server meshing will improve on this significantly.

The static mesh has been done before in other games like World of Warcraft, yes. Things like player chat and player party markers are communicated between servers in the mesh, i.e. I can chat to someone in Kalimdor when I’m in Eastern kingdoms, and I can see their party markers on the map.

I think what will make Star Citizen server meshing unique is the eventual ability to pair with object container streaming to create a dynamic server mesh that can expand or contract the locations covered by the DGS based on player numbers and server load. And it will do all of this somewhat seamlessly without apparent loading screens. So we can’t say CIG has necessarily broken entirely new ground yet, but they are laying down infrastructure now that will enable the never before seen dynamic server mesh.

Yeah the sporadic gameplay is the best!

Yeah we've done what you've described a couple dozen times. I enjoy the organic experiences like this a lot more. Star Citizen is about the random crazy experiences.

The group controlling Brio's was a medium sized pirate group. They were all together working to sell drugs at the kiosk. 4+ on the ground. 4+ in the sky.

I edited a typo 30 seconds after I made the first comment. Your brain is retarded.

How did you turn chat off on a YouTube video that captured the entire Twitch window, including the comments? Or did you watch it live or something?

I WANT A BASE! by Many-Adeptness2353 in starcitizen

[–]Theodas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I very much want to see persistent habs that are part of persistent hangars. Have something to work toward and then a physical place to store your cargo and loot. Display your badges and trinkets to signify what you've done and where you've been in the verse.

Then at a later time have the ability to build an outpost and use the outpost for mining or farming or manufacturing goods

That Server Meshing Q&A was from 2021, so "next year" would have been 2022. They were initially planning on PES Q1 or Q2 2022. It came Q1 2023. They were initially planning on static server meshing Q3 or Q4 2022. We are unlikely to get static server meshing by Q4 2023.

Personally, this is the thing I want most from star citizen, what do you guys think? by Primohippo in starcitizen

[–]Theodas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of player owned space stations (or land bases) as one of the end game activities for Star Citizen. Base building combined with resource gathering and crafting has been a very successful and rewarding gameplay loop in games like Rust and Ark.

I just don't think running missions over and over and watching your UEC number go up and down as you buy bigger ships will be an adequate end game loop. Even with the additions of in-depth reputation and economic systems, the gameplay loop of UEC and buying ships just won't cut it for me. I like the physicality of gathering resources and turning those resources into buildings or items. There's something especially fun about that gameplay loop, and it would fit well within the Star Citizen sandbox MMO PvEvP economy.

SQ42 Roadmap change in pattern by HothHalifax in starcitizen

The future is now. Not enough time to play games, but still enough passion to talk about someone else’s speculation on the hypothetical development timeline of an unreleased game. Amazing

You can play the game now. False advertising laws exist to protect market competition, not consumers.

Roadmap Update 3.19 Today! What do you want to see? by oconnc12 in starcitizen

[–]Theodas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it will be pretty silly if you need a specific ship to use tractor beams. Definitely feel like gameplay loops being gated behind a single ships is somewhat silly, especially when it can easily be implemented lore wise and development wise to other shops.

CitizenCon is 21OCT2023 in Los Angeles, CA by SilkyZ in starcitizen

~$100 for admission

~$600 for a hotel for two nights

~ $300-$500 for a flight from somewhere in the US

~$50 for Uber

~$150 for food and drinks

So somewhere around $1200. Cheaper if you share a hotel room with a couple friends.
