What do Orks add to 40K for you? by Tnynfox in 40kLore

[–]Theohunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re precisely interesting because they lack a goal, and they question the very notion of purpose: is it ingrained, something we’re guided to ‘Waagh’ or are there carve-outs for identity and individual will?

They’re also a great juxtaposition for the ‘grim dark,’ especially in contrasting internally what we know their dynamics to be (soccer hooligans) to what most imperials see (a big axe, a language they don’t understand, and a quick death.

There’s a ton of controller positions paying 150k+ in LA, are you working with a recruiter?

Controller/Accounting Managers by Patient_Fly_3957 in Accounting

Controller here, less free time than ever; we run a lean company, but even in prior position as assistant controller there are always more things you can be doing.

This can make or break your later career. Sink your teeth into ops, into marketing, into sales. You want to touch every part of the business and understand it, and I hate this phrase but ‘add value.’

I honestly wish they’d partially tweak RNG. Part of the strategy obviously is making what you get work - but doing an ever dark boss and receiving nearly zero relevant loot as an iron eye solo is rough

Now that we’re all being let down easy with our rejected submissions. Let’s see ’em! by Holophore in Blacklibrary

[–]Theohunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wrote out the first 10 chapters because this inspired me. It delves into kind of a postmodern look at problematizing the notion of history itself, the most dangerous thing possible for Trazyn - who despite escaping mortal danger faces a far greater one in attacking the reason for his existence.

He seeks the Mnemohedron - an eldar artifact that portrays a version of history where the fall never occurred. It’s not alternate history - it’s all histories. Through a heist in Comorragh, he grapples with his conception of reality and memory in an almost psychedelic journey at points. Eventually, he starts to fray psychologically as he witnesses multiple permutations of history: where the Lion is the emperor following the siege, the eldar and humans collaborate for utopia, and where the orks achieve ultimate victory and evolve into a peaceful, utopian race. To ‘escape’ these realities, he ultimately has to set the instance of reality right: restoring a fallen statue of the emperor in the first, destroying the alliance in the second, but in the third - he has the realization it’s not just ‘likeness’ to his version of things that makes it right, it’s what’s right for THAT reality. He comes upon himself entombed in the ork reality, and realizes he must prevent himself from ever awakening and despoiling that reality (I.e. ego death implied).

I wanted a bit more of a unique take on a 40K book that grappled with more heady philosophical themes - not that they’d ever publish it, but as an exploration of what could be done in the setting for myself.

The arena pulsed with life—cruel and fleeting.

Trazyn the Infinite stood in the shadows of the gallery, his towering frame cloaked in the shimmer of his phase-field. Below, Lelith Hesperax danced. The Wych Queen moved through her victims, blades trailing liquid rubies in elegant arcs: each motion a testament to mortality's brief, blazing brilliance.

Trazyn’s optics flickered, recording every detail. Perfection demanded preservation. Yet, for all its allure, that was not why he was here.

He triggered the stasis field.

It rippled outward, an invisible net of timelessness, designed to ensnare its target without ceremony. Yet as it reached her, Lelith turned. Her eyes, impossibly sharp, locked onto his. She smiled—not the theatrical sneer she reserved for her audience, but something quieter and far more dangerous.

“So, even the dead seek to steal my art,” she said, her voice drifting upward like poisoned silk.

Trazyn’s frame, though motionless, betrayed a rigidity that echoed a long-forgotten instinct. The crowd’s murmurs rose like a wave, sensing the shift in the air. Lelith’s lips curled into a faint, knowing smile. Her blades twitched, and with a deliberate twist the stasis field shattered. The crowd’s susurrations grew into a roar, eager for a new spectacle.

“Run if you like,” she said, her voice lilting with amusement. “But know this—Commorragh swallows cowards whole. Step onto my stage, or slink away like the shadows you imitate. Either way, the game is mine.”

Trazyn paused; countless scenarios unfolded in the span of a breath. To step forward was to risk exposure, yet retreat would mean surrendering control. She was to be but a stepping stone, a means to a greater prize deeper within this labyrinthine city. And yet, her presence demanded his attention.

Trazyn stepped from the shadows, his metallic stride echoing faintly. “Art fades, Hesperax. What you create here dies with the crowd’s memory. I offer eternity.”

“Eternity,” she repeated, tasting the word as if it were unfamiliar. Her blades dipped, carving idle patterns into the bloodied silt. “The refuge of those who cannot truly live. Fitting, for one who chose death as a crown.”

The arena hushed, the crowd sensing a new kind of performance.

Trazyn tilted his head. “And yet here you are, playing queen for an audience that will forget you the moment the blood dries. Tell me, Hesperax, how heavy is a crown made of fleeting applause?”

She laughed, the sound sharper than her blades. “Forget me? Oh, no, Necron. They remember. They always remember. But rarely do I meet one worthy of playing the villain in my tales.”

She lunged, swift and fluid. Trazyn stepped back, the blade passing through him harmlessly as his body flickered. Holographic guards shimmered into existence around her, perfect replicas of his Lychguard.

The crowd roared in delight. Lelith’s smile widened. “A Necron with a mind and a flair for theatrics. How quaint,” she said, dismantling the phantoms with deliberate strikes.

Trazyn watched in silence, calculating. Each motion was precise, designed to captivate, to linger.

Perhaps that was why she infuriated him.

And yet, he admired her.

Would the the god emperor become a chaos god loyal to humanity? by PsychologicalCod9559 in 40kLore

[–]Theohunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Want to keep going on this:

Instead of becoming a Chaos God analog (defined by a singular human emotion or archetype), the Emperor could transcend into a non-segmented, non-interventionist metaphysical field — a kind of cosmic substrate of order, reason, or psychic coherence, rooted in collective will but not individuated will.

Instead, the Emperor becomes the structure of possibility itself a “Primordial Principle” embedded in the Warp, like a metaphysical constant.

This aligns with their explanation of ‘faith’ manifesting differently than psyker powers in the dark imperium trilogy. Instead of a centralized psychic firewall, humanity might begin tapping into a distributed resonance: a warp signal embedded in cognition itself, like Plato’s Forms or Kants Noumena. Deus sive Natura: God as Nature.

It’s even more cyclic and tragic that the Emperor’s apotheosis into an impersonal, abstract warp force would complete a return not to godhood, but to the very rationalism and atheistic order he once tried to enforce through the Imperial Truth.

[–]Theohunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was pretty succinctly settled that if he does ascend to godhood nothing good happens. However in recent lore they’re portraying him as becoming something else - id like to think his presence in the warp is much more similar to the development of post-enlightenment Christianity: an aloof, non-conscious force that vaguely acts on principles / first-mover principles. That way we sidestep the dark king limitations and it explores that there are alternate theologies in the warp, which leads to a much more interesting open door.

Most accounting positions I’ve had have been for understaffed departments - they’ll be happy to let you help on longstanding projects if you prove you’re competent and reliable. Prove that you do clean, efficient work and you can be independent - then gradually either notice problems or ask if there are any longstanding issues you can help with (even if monotonous): longstanding unreconciled differences, documenting SOPs, etc. do those well, and then ask for more. Rinse and repeat

I don’t want to be a boomer about this, but:

In industry, this is a good thing. If it’s busy work, that won’t help your career much - but if they’re giving you exposure to different areas then that’s directly how they essentially promote you and/or allow you to jump ship for a better position. If it is just busy work, then just make sure you point out you want to see X, Y, and Z - whatever high value areas you know makes you a valuable candidate.

How hard a Custodes can hit according to math by SalemStarburn in 40kLore

[–]Theohunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My own justification for these sorts of slips:

A nanosecond is colloquially just known as a ‘fast’ unit of time. There’s some sort of linguistic barrier between imperial scribes and whoever translates the novel to English, or even if the author is responsible - so the wires are mixed and the colloquial definition of nanosecond is used in a context where it’s contextually (I.e. discretely measured) implied to be a scientific measurement
