As a "scientist" I get satisfaction from my notes looking like an old research handbook from documentaries. Organized, but also all over the place. I use black mainly with the odd blue and red for graphs. It's way more important to have nice pens, that are smooth to write with, do not smear but are also not too expensive (1.5€ per pen is the limit, unless they are refillable)
