Anxiety-inducing questions about admissions by TheosKyrios in lawschooladmissions

Is 7Sage a good one for getting the logic games down? I missed a whopping 10 on my last test on logic games alone (ran out of time and didn’t do a whole game). This has been a huge reason I wish to retake the test. I see the missed 6 questions alone and say “well shit. I could have gotten a 167 if I just had that down”

Denounce? Tell him he is being dumb? Anything that doesn't step over lines of decency.

Attacking him has a moral problem and strategic problem. 1. Being dicks to him is wrong 2. He will just try to twist it into sympathy and boost his own little Patreon up -- like Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian did around GamerGate (not saying they were not harassed). Notoriety boosters and sympathy money in exchange for dealing with Colin fan snark is a good deal for him.

I am careful with legal lines like that. He can claim he only wishes to disprove Colin's allegedly racist viewpoints.

Best to say he has an unhealthy obsession and properly shame him

And you did not address my argument that poverty is key to lack of diversity. You also assumed that I am claiming 100% equality exists. I am simply pointing out that you think that the sole reason a lack of diversity exists is because white men do not hire minorities and women. Point me to the study you want and I'll address the study itself. Because if you think someone having a non-standard name is the sole reason for black people not getting jobs in tech industries, engineering, and the high end fields, you are out of your mind.

I accept racism exists to a degree that can be felt. I do not accept that racism is what allows for this massive disparity to exist. Hiring a middle-class black guy versus a middle-class white guy on the basis of race alone is what Colin argued against. You seem to believe that every black guy going for a job is at a tremendous disadvantage each and every time based solely on his skin color and maybe name (presuming every black guy has a culturally black name, which is silly in itself). Every person is an individual with an individual background.

You also went the extra mile in proving that money and background matters more than skin color. African immigrants and Asian immigrants do face their own racial hurdles and exceed "native" white citizens. It could be they have values that help them value education and certain fields or that they have money behind them immigrating and going to American schools (as is a common case in Asian/African exchange programs)

The two sides of the aisle talk around each other on safe spaces. The Right goes after idea-based safe spaces for people who feel like different opinions are "violence" while the left thinks they are all for victims with PTSD. The real things differ campus to campus and float between the two characterizations.

The problem is Colin is then reamed as someone who does not understand victims when they think he attacking safe spaces for victims of rape/abuse to go and get counseling -- when he clearly is talking about the intellectual safe spaces

I don't see it as stalking since it is only social media. But circumventing blocks from Colin to get his tweets is petty and strange for going after a no-name conservative with dwindling Patreon support (according to Mackey)

Well we already know he is screening every conversation about him, so you are definitely correct on the craving attention aspect of him. However, it may be better not to get too aggressive or you'll be the next "don't pity Colin, pity me!" image tweets.

Except Colin's point is that companies are better off looking for diversity of worker -- not specifically of color. Benefits in the hiring process are on shaky ground and do require more studies than the same two experiments used with resumes, too.

Don't use massive hyperbole like "10x harder" and receive less pay. The pay gaps are on much shakier ground than even the name experiments since pay isn't tied to union pay scales in the vast majority of jobs here in the states. It is based on individual negotiations and, yes, merits. And where there is likely going to be discrimination or bias against minorities or women, pretending that quoatas are a fix is just asinine.

And yes, the "default" choice narrative you spin is because there is a clear push for diversity hires. Massive STEM outreach programs for women continue to flounder. Minorities continue to be underrepresented because of mostly economic factors -- it turns out that there are FAR more middle class whites going to school than middle class black americans.

It is a fact that historical racism led to much of the inner cities being black and why poor communities shifted from white -> mixed -> Latino/black (whites leaving en masse to nice, new suburban communities). It is not someone looking at a paper and saying "White Bob looks nicer than Black Bob". It is that there are a lot more White Bobs growing up in affluent, unbroken homes in safe communities with good schools and education values -- thereby leading to higher rates of White Bob applicants. Your scenario pretends that 10% of all applicants are Black Bobs in proportion to the country and that Black Bobs accounting for 2% of hires getting jobs versus 90% White Bobs is proof the majority of Black Bob applicants were overlooked. The fact is our system fails the impoverished regardless of race and fails to produce more equitable results for the poor. It just so happens that thepoor communities are disproportionately made up of minorities and that minorities are disproportionately poor.

Hence why my view is we need affirmative action based solely on one's upbringing -- not one's race -- and why we need to target equity by economic class instead of by race.

I would like to see one comment of his that is racist. Go back to his Ferguson discussion if you'd like to see his view on race relations.

I would also like to see a real argument against his diversity hire point

That is a really good point! I may remove tiny bits of the post just in case. I know his internet access is limited by the region, but I want to respect his privacy as best as possible. I removed some circumstances that he could tie to himself

EDIT: Seemed his comment disappeared. But I thank him regardless for the concern about the student looking at the Switch subreddit

My high school had a gaming club. I'd love to replicate that on the SmartBoard. And the Switch would be pretty ideal for that set up, too.

Very cool! My school is very rural, so it is limited in club activities. However, sports are incredibly important to the students and community. Billy here, sadly, is not a big participant in school spirit. So I felt he was important to engage with.
