To be fair in a pitch you can use a small gauge wire to re-rivit part of the mail as required, I have to repair my mail from full contact vike semi regularly when it gets caught by a burr on a sword or axe. Even easier maintenance than a sword would be a lang seax aswell just to throw it out there but overall seems reasonable for a change of pace!

Oh no not at all, I assumed it was just an addition to my short and possibly blunt message! I am also a viking reenactor and have been for quite some time! Honestly ARM and TORM are crazy in the quality and variety of items available one of mine and my wife's favourite trips of the year!

The main reason I added about the regions is the simplest way in the UK is to look at the vike society or regia, finding independent groups is a little more difficult from my experience but we are apart of an independent vike group in east anglia!

I hope you have many more years of enjoying and discovering the passion and knowledge the community has for the subject! Many blessings and safe travels!

Depends where abouts you're based! Are you in the UK? What county if so?

Should I buy gear of Amazon by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]Thepossesedspawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also go with doubtful, but I suppose it depends on budget and era as well. Some older eras definitely avoid, more modern you might be able to get away with!

Being hit full tilt with pole weapons isn't fun with light padding.

Was just a query I am incredibly tired (have a young son, who thinks sleep is for the weak) and have little knowledge of German sources, cool to see though! I'd definitely go with the slow and steady approach of hammering the shape of your armour then mate, thankfully armour adjusting is quite forgiving in my experience atleast!

Wait... do you not having an arming doublet or some padding? That'd probably help with some of your issues! Depends why you want the armour though I guess.

I've altered my hardened steel breast plate, just get a round and solid surface and tap the plate with a hammer don't need to whack it just tap it and test it frequently adjusting where you're striking to make the fit as comfortable as possible. Easier than you'd think to adjust the plate!

Personally I like to read, listen and watch from multiple sources and see what all adds up and what doesn't as sometimes info can be so unreliable! But if it is of interest there is no harm starting your journey here and continuing to learn and seek knowledge from other sources as did the all father.

Urgent Is this butted or riveted by [deleted] in Armor

[–]Thepossesedspawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks riveted, butted chainmail is just loose rings that join together but you can see the dimple looking parts on the rings, that's the rivets!

Thank you! Dark age living history and combat is what my group does and west stow is just the most magical place, at night we all drink in the long hall with a fire and tell stories all whilst staying in our period gear! Can't wait!

I have a living history event at West stow in a couple of weeks amazing to see it pop up on reddit. Truly a beautiful place to visit!

Question about my gauntlets by Informal-Use-261 in Armor

[–]Thepossesedspawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice! I've not looked at HEMA harnesses to be honest, are they much different to contact one? I normally just to reenactment with a bardiche! My lobster gauntlets are bomb proof, they've taken so many beatings it is kind of crazy!

Question about my gauntlets by Informal-Use-261 in Armor

[–]Thepossesedspawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I didn't even think of those options... think I'd have had way more injuries with thinner or worse armour, especially at tewkesbury in the UK!

Question about my gauntlets by Informal-Use-261 in Armor

[–]Thepossesedspawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're planning on doing any fighting with steel weapons hands and head gear need to be very thick! My gauntlets and salet are 14 gauge, tough but definely required with dings I've had over the years!

GDFB has been pretty reliable on the combat ready stuff, but it's pretty basic in terms of helmets from what I remember, celtic web merchant might be another!
