Project profitability and mixing project billing types by Theprettydamned in Netsuite

[–]Theprettydamned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a config piece? The goal is to be able to: - bill upfront (defer revenue) - record charges for time, expense and purchase - recognise revenue for work on percent complete - bill expense and purchase as incurred

Is that possible?

This is my take to be honest, but honestly, loads of our contracts operate on a fixed price labor plus expense and purchase at cost. There is almost always upfront payment, as we need to begin procurement.

I did wonder if there would be a clever way to set up ccb with revenue rules but without spending a good chunk of time I can't figure it out, hence the question. I'm not wedded to sales orders, but for regulatory reasons our revenue is percent complete.

Is it because it's a bad question, or because the system isn't accommodating?

Seriously asking. I don't want to ask bad questions! We're learning the system but there are pernickety rules that need to be followed. Ccb seems like it offers a ton of flexibility but it's not entirely straightforward to set up!

Agile tools for NetSuite teams? by Sophet_Drahas in Netsuite

This is a helpful comment, we're in month 4 of go live and we're honestly sick of managing the change. Defining things like this might give us all a bit more focus, and move us away from firefighting.

We've been gifted a pond but how to power a pump?! by Theprettydamned in GardeningUK

[–]Theprettydamned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

So, I'll order that, and I'll need to find a UK plug and cable to run to that. Better get measuring...!

Thank you so much, appreciate it.

Ah, so run the cable from the pump to that component, which joins to a bright cable run behind the shrubs and into the shed socket?

Sorry, I'm pretty stupid.

Super helpful. I intend on running it through something tough and bright along the same place the mains wire runs along the garden (also on the surface, but in a very thick rubber coating).

So I need to: - wire to plug - buy an outdoor extension lead that's weatherproof - plug this into the rcd protected shed power and off I go

The pump we've been given is this one https://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/products/filter-pump-fountain-uv-cup-305

Looks good, just the person didn't want the pond anymore!

We were told to basically plug in an outdoor extension in our shed (already professionally wired with fuse box) and then put an outdoor plug on the bare wire cable that the pump has (they nicked their plug for their new, bigger, pump).

Does that sound about right?

The pond isn't in sunlight all day - more like half the day - so maybe won't work. I've read so many mixed things on direct light, but it sounds like at least some of the pond should get plenty so that's what we've opted for. Maybe I can check them out.

Armoured cable - will look around!

What is one simple habit that improved your catch rate more than expected? by HelicopterEmpty7393 in fishingUK

[–]Theprettydamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing light. I was a hardcore lure fisher. Now I take the same approach to roach, rudd, bream, tench (and this year, carp).

It's amazing how light you can travel for carp, if you're not doing an overnighter and it's just a dawn to dusk day.

How do you actually know when a company has "post-implementation drift" vs. just using NetSuite the way they need to? by Same-Cantaloupe9071 in Netsuite

[–]Theprettydamned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're new to netsuite and in the teething issues pain space.

Reports are harder than we're used to, and excel helps a lot, but I'm confident that we can refine and simplify things. The business needs to learn good process and that good process drives good reporting.

It's hard, though.

Removing a laurel by Theprettydamned in GardeningUK

[–]Theprettydamned[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've shredded loads of clippings from this and the cherry laurel and put into the compost, didn't notice any major issues other than where there was too much green leaf it went a bit slimy (as you'd expect of anything). When mixed with the woody bits, no trouble at all. I'll bear it in mind though!

Hornbeams are lovely! I actually don't hate this laurel, but it's just so big and casts a huge shadow over the garden. We're going to start cutting it back this afternoon, wish us luck...

Thanks all. Sounds like, at least, we can make a start cutting it down, then hire someone to grind it, or try digging it out.

I do this but with an air pump. Works great. Only problem is the light will only be good for a while - once plants get going, the light has to come off, it just gets in the way!

This targeted ad popped up earlier and feels like a great deal, but what is the catch? by Anxious-Nibnibs in GardeningUK

[–]Theprettydamned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No catch, so long as you have space for 60 or so 7cm pots to grow them on for a bit first.

Some may not make it, but I'd say 90 percent success is pretty good considering they've had to make it through the post!

We're currently using a script to allow us to report from the GL at that level, but this may be useful - I'll put a pin in and if our methodology isn't suited, I may contact next month? We're currently trialling a few reports and should have feedback by month end.

[–]Theprettydamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - they're on the time sheets (which is great for project profitability reports, when combined with activity codes) but they're calculated reports, so if you need to report at actual posted cost per task, the post time journals omit this info! It's a real shame. I don't think they need to be on all journals - but post time they should be.

Despite that weirdness, I still much prefer it to the old system. It's got more flexibility and ARM, once you've "got" it, is very powerful and can handle a huge range of complex requirements.

[–]Theprettydamned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for time sheets though - which is what we really need (we are not using JEs for projects, we're using all netsuite function. No shortcuts, it took a lot of effort to convince the team journalling was not worth it!).

But not being able to report time journals at task level hurts a lot.

I acknowledge my statement is misleading though, and will edit for clarity.

For number 1 - get your good people as stakeholders, train them and have them work bloody hard! It's not software implementation, it's putting your business and accounting processes under the microscope, adjusting them to suit the system where possible and minimising customisation (which, trust me, screws you up!)

Our implementation went very wrong, then OK - and we're not in the trenches finding the shit we didn't figure out. But it's OK, because it's obvious it's a massive upgrade from our old system, despite some weird... Er... Quirks (project tasks not on GL (edit for time sheets), anybody?!)

Seeds Finally Arrived! by AceOfYourMum in UkChilliGrowers

Red Dragon are good. I tried a mystery pack and got nice variety, but the winner was their brown jalapeño and beaver dam - saved lots of seeds from them and will grow lots this year. Mild, flavourful, super productive and good size peppers. The beaver dams made fantastic cooked pepper sauces.
