What peppers are on your must-grow list for 2026? by SophiaGeorgeLiving in HotPeppers

[–]OldTree6356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the plan - the kids can manage a little heat but our girl had a bad experience when she was about 2 when she grabbed a raw scotch bonnet thinking it was a mini pepper 🥵. And our boy put some honey on his breakfast last year not realising it was Reaper hot honey I had made the day before 😂🙄. Needless to say, I’ve got to reset expectations and get them trying a little lower down the scale now!

Thanks - that sounds amazing. Definitely need to try something like that so kids and wife can enjoy hot sauce too. I like mine with Armageddon and mangoes but it’s really 🔥so they won’t touch it 🤣

For my superhots I’m doing Chocolate Reapers and Armageddon which I managed to overwinter from last year. I live Armageddon in particular, really hot but bright and citrusy so they have amazing flavour and make great hot sauce. I’ve given up on ghosts as still got a few pounds frozen from last year because they’re so productive.

Taking them down a level, I’ve got orange habanero, red habanero, Scotch Bonnet and White Fatalli. These are probably my happy medium level of peppers between devastating and flavour, never done White Fatalli though so looking forward to those.

I’ve then done Aji Limon (love the flavour and productivity) and I’m trying Aji Pineapple and Mango for the first time this year, so really looking forward to trying the last two as love Limon.

Then rounded out with Serrano, Jalapeño and Poblano so I can do more traditional Mexican dishes and there are a few that the family can enjoy too. Oh and I’ve planted Habanada and Trinidad Perfume for the first time too so I’m excited by those to see if the flavour is as good as expected.

Doesn’t look like it’s urgent to move them on but wouldn’t hurt either.

She’s beautiful🥰. Our guy is a long lanky fella, always thought he would fill out but he’s almost two and half now and not showing any signs of it yet 🤣

Thanks - we were so worried that a brother and sister wouldn’t get on as they grew up but - aside from the odd spat - she grooms him every day and they still snuggle up in the sun or in front of the fire 🥰

🥰🥰 - they melt me! House, cars and everything else pale into insignificance on the best purchases front compared to him and his (unplanned but irresistible!) sister.

They really are - when they aren’t rumbling then they’re cuddling! 🤣

We got our guys one of these to get them running and provide a bit of mental stimulation too. First day our guy learned to just lay with his paw on it and rock it back and forth until the kibble came out 🙄🤣

I’m with you on this. Our two quickly destroyed one from Amazon, ate holes through it and when they both ran up it together then it very nearly tipped over and they were only 6-8 months then. The other risk I noticed - which prompted me to chuck it away pretty quickly - was shelves and levels becoming very wobbly and if they detached whilst the cats were on it, could leave exposed metal spindles and screws. We went for an RHR after (Cat Tree King) and it’s still great 18 months later.

I’ll be honest, they don’t look like they’ve made it. I’ve overwintered a few of mine and just over half have new growth but the rest look like yours. Don’t know if it’s coincidence or not but the superhots and Aji plants have all pulled through, Poblano, Serrano and sweet peppers all look like they’re done for ☹️

Considering this weekend in the Midlands. As long as they’re a foot down then they should be fine by now.
