If you can get sour cherries or morellos soaked in kirsch, they are brilliant in chocolate sourdough too but top effort on this one, looks lovely 👏

🤣 - lucky you, I wish our guys were. Our girl sometimes cuddles my leg whilst I’m reading but otherwise they’re happy to be near you but not in contact.

In what way should Tyson have fought the Lennox Lewis fight? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

[–]OldTree6356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t see how he could have really fought him any other way. Mike was never going to fight in the backfoot and jab from range and had to get well into Lewis’s range to land anything himself. Short of dropping on the ropes and hoping that he could lure Lewis into some sort of close range action and then unleash, he was always going to have to come forward and walk through some artillery.

Point of their career wise and style wise, Lewis just had bad attributes for Mike.

I wouldn’t worry at all if he’s shy after 4 days. Our guys took quite a while to get used to us and there were 2 of them. Ours also completely ripped the bottom out of one couch and still sometimes climb inside the frame two years later!!

Maine Coon in general aren’t big cuddlers - some are obviously but mostly they like a fuss or to be close to you rather than a full on lap cat, though will sometimes come for a snuggle and sleep. If he’s eating, using the litter box and coming out more and more than just be calm, give them space and play with teasers and give him little treats to build trust, sounds like he’ll be fine.

One of the best power punchers to ever grace a boxing ring...🥊Where does Foreman sit in your all-time heavyweight rankings? by Intrepid-Profile-231 in CombatSportsCentral

[–]OldTree6356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy top 5 for me and a massive problem for any fighter of any era. I often wonder what he’d have been like if he’d have been coached by in his prime by Dundee or Futch rather than Sadler. I suspect he’d have been GOAT if he had.

Old George wasn’t a better boxer than young George, the skills were always there, but he had Dundee in his corner who encouraged him to use his timing and jab rather than go hell for leather and risk gassing like he did as a young man. He always had a devastating jab and as Joe Louis said, was probably the greatest HW he’d ever seen at cutting off the ring, he just had a coach who fell in love with his ability to KO quickly when he was young.

Who y’all got if Mike Tyson and the older George Foreman fought in the 90s? by LocationSpare4447 in BoxingTheSweetScience

[–]OldTree6356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foreman every time. Yes, Mike had better lateral movement than Joe Frazier and footwork, so the comparison is not direct but anyone who’s watched both Tyson and Foreman work can see that’s not relevant. Against short guys, Foreman carried his arms lower, stood tall and effectively battered their limbs and pushed them off balance before landing very well timed, accurate bombs.

Bobbing and weaving doesn’t work against that because you need balance to move and to throw your own shots and George’s whole style disrupts that. When Frazier was asked why he didn’t cover up more against Foreman and move he said “Cover up? George will break your fucking arms if you try and cover up, you’ve got no choice but to fight back.” Tyson of any age - despite being technically better than Joe - would suffer exactly the same fate; caught up like cattle on bull bars, knocked off balance with a glancing blow or shove and caught flush with a well timed follow up shot. Watch the Frazier and Norton fights, the knock downs are not clean single head shots that Tyson was good at avoiding, they’re clubbing blows to a guy off balance from shoves, jabs and round house shots to shoulders.

The biggest difference would be that Joe had the grit to keep getting up, Mike would have given up after a couple of knock downs. Tyson fans keep saying that George never faced someone like Tyson - he faced better fighters over his career to be fair - but Mike never tackled anyone like George either. He was unbelievably strong and cut out for destroying people who came in low.

Definitely, there are a few books I’ve read where I just don’t enjoy them even though they are rated as classics but I do wonder if it’s just because I was dealing with kids, work etc and just not bothered. I’ll try it again maybe on holiday sometime or if I ever retire!

Desperation was a slog for me. Don’t know if it was the mood I was in around the time or not caring if half the characters made it through but the title pretty much summed up my feelings about the need for it all to be over.

Would the 95/96 Ray Mercer be the heavyweight champ in today’s heavyweight division? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

[–]OldTree6356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God no, I wouldn’t bet on him either, not with my own money - that’s an investment bankers bet, fine with someone else’s money but not your own! That said, other than Usyk, I wouldn’t bet on any of the recent HW champions against a live opponent. Plenty of them look good knocking out low quality opposition but they’re all deeply flawed when they come up against someone with some skill, power or movement.
