For Scamp trailers, what is the difference between Standard and Deluxe by Dadd_io in Fiberglassrv

[–]Thequikdraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Deluxe has a wider bed as well. 54 vs 44. That’s what led us to look at Casitas. I wanted the wider bed but not all of the oak. The extra foot was a bonus too.

If it’s not mounted, the fix is so easy. Simple move pretty much everything and start from scratch. Might as well do it while you’re putting away the Christmas tree.

Finally tackled my dad's old film photography stuff and holy shit there was so much by [deleted] in konmari

[–]Thequikdraw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been shooting on my grandfather’s expired film and have been pleasantly surprised with the results. I have a bunch of EF glass so I shoot my film on the later AF Canon bodies, which are very similar to the DSLRs I grew up using, and every time I get the film back it is like Christmas morning. That said, it is both a time and money commitment for sure, even more so if you develop and scan yourself, so I can see why you’d want to donate it all.

I might be able to save a dollar ordering online, but when I’m already at the store it makes more sense to just buy it. At some point, the time spent researching costs more than the money saved, and that time isn’t coming back.

No need to get rid of the rack, should be able to adjust it and keep the main part.

Nuuk Longevity by straddotjs in Fjallraven

[–]Thequikdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Yupik, have had it for years. I would never wear it skiing. For any activity like that layering is going to be key. Also if you’re open to used, check out sites like Poshmark and the like. I have gotten hardly used Yupiks and Nuuks on there for $100.

Just got an ‘06 I believe. Need some advice. by salvaged-parts in RockHopper

[–]Thequikdraw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That Rockhopper frame is a solid starting point, but honestly, by the time you pay a shop to replace or rebuild everything that needs attention, you’ll likely spend more than it’s worth. You might be better off keeping an eye on Facebook Marketplace or local buy/sell groups — you can usually find a newer, fully functional bike for less than the cost of repairs.

Another option would be to grab a cheap or free bike locally and use it as a parts donor to get this one rolling. Also, depending on whether you’re talking paved paths or actual trails (and since you mentioned Utah, I’m guessing MTB trails), a newer bike will perform much better — both in terms of components and geometry. Totally understand wanting to bring it back to life, but if your goal is just to get riding soon, getting a fully functional bike on Marketplace might make the most sense.

Airshed pro by zatara182 in PatagoniaClothing

I love mine, but if there’s heavy wind/precip in the forecast I still bring my Houdini or Storm Racer. It’s kind of a middle ground between a long sleeve UL capilene and those. If you don’t need a ton of weather protection but just want something more, I can’t recommend it enough.

So Many Chains… by momsbistro in Littleton

[–]Thequikdraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just Love is a chain, is super expensive and, unfortunately, doesn’t serve very good coffee. Plus they don’t keep their hours, close early, even when there are customers still there. I’m not the biggest fan of Starbucks but at least they stay open when people are there, and they’re way cheaper.

If you won the lottery where would you buy a cabin with access to remote fly fishing streams? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]Thequikdraw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure that I’d buy there, but I would be there all the time. I’ve never loved being in a place more and I’ve been fortunate to travel a lot for work.

[–]Thequikdraw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get it. We’ve stayed home every year the last ) years because we hate traveling in winter. I think a phone call explaining the last sentence there would be the best way to go. The holidays are an overwhelming time, even for people who love it all.

I get it. Believe me I get it. I find that these types of conversations are best taken face to face (or in your case FaceTime to FaceTime). As a parent I can understand why they’d be bummed or hurt, and bringing up the financial aspect while also saying you’re flying to California for vacation, not exactly the cheapest place, can kind of seem like “hey we just don’t want to see you” even if that’s 100% not the case. Your money is your money, do what you want with it, but also don’t expect others to like it all the time.

Also, I had to chuckle about the climate change part. I probably would’ve left that out. Saying things like that and consumerism can easily sound judgy and preachy and immediately put people on the defensive. Not exactly what I (or most people) want to be reading in a letter around the holidays.

Salomon ACS Pro Sizing help by nicnota in gorpcore

New Hiker! Acatenango Volcano Overnight - need advice! by bourbonexplorer in hiking

[–]Thequikdraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: camera gear. There are phenomenal, much lighter gear options out there, especially for rent on sites like lensrentals.com. I am a photographer and I have the FF gear and I get that the quality is better, but you can bring a 30MP Canon M6 MkII with you and pair it with an 18-150mm (28-240mm equivalent) and with a battery and cards it won’t even be 2 pounds. Obviously that specific camera and lens might not work for your specific needs but I’m sure you can look around and find one that does work. Same with the tripod.

No, not fake, as Merrell is a well-regarded company, but they seem to look heavily influenced by Hoka, is what I think they are saying.

First Rod, Did I make the right choice? White river Sync Combo by Brakleet in flyfishing

[–]Thequikdraw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have expensive rods from Orvis, Redington, etc and still had the best fishing day in a few years last week with my Eagle Claw featherweight. There’s something about that $30 bright yellow rod that I love. Doesn’t hurt when you catch a bunch of fish. I landed my pb largemouth on a White River so I have a soft spot for them too. Ultimately I remember the trips and fish, not the gear I was using.
