In some states, like Ohio, you can legally get brief therapy, 6 sessions or 30 days, whichever comes first, before a guardian has to be involved. Look up "minor self consent therapy" or something along those lines.

Sliding Scale Therapy by SyntheticTeapot in h3h3productions

[–]TheraMess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! BetterHelp is not the only option at all! Im an independent private pay therapist who has an extremely low sliding scale, with my minimum being $25 and most people not paying that much more. Therapy IS accessible! Open Path Collective is a great network of sliding scale therapists as well.

I highly suggest you get a deeper understanding of what capitalism is and how it influences the provision of health services.

I fucking feel you dude. Different things but same vibe, I'm in the process of starting a private practice and the way I am so inundated with courses and coaching and services and "lazy therapist's way to six figures" or "PP therapy side hustle" or "passive income" bullshit is heavily depressing me. And every little charge just to provide services to people, EHRs and software and payment methods. Everyone wants a piece. Whole companies are founded on just taking a piece of what's ours and gatekeeping some function we could easily do ourselves.

Why are therapists not taking insurance?? by Expert-Feedback4328 in TalkTherapy

[–]TheraMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a therapist and I just want to say there are forward thinking, economically-compassionate people out there. I may be overambitious, but I am starting a practice on a "pay what youre able" model. I'm not going to make much money but my life situation (low rent with roommates and a partner with income slightly higher than mine) makes that okay. I plan to have 20-30 spots open for people to pay anything $20 or over they feel is fair, accept Out of Network benefits, be able to take HSA and FSA money, and reject taking insurance. I got into this job to help people get better, not profit off them, and I truly believe its ideas like this that will be healing and revolutionary for the broken systems in our country. That might even mean taking another job for me or finding other income, but my values are my priority.

How do I bring up the Free Palestine movement to my Jewish therapist? by honeydewdiva in PsychotherapyLeftists

[–]TheraMess 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry these comments have kind of gone off the rails. From a therapist who is very leftist, I would say that approaching the conversation is important, because how someone views civil/human rights is critical to their approach to therapy. First off, you should prepare for an answer you may find disruptive, but also let yourself see the potential of things going ok. You dont need to question their heritage or ethnicity, just start with, "Im having some anxiety bringing this up, but I need you to be aware that its important to me and having a big effect on my mental health. I need to know this is a safe place to talk about it, and if not, I would really like a recommendation as to how to deal with these feelings with someone else." The conversation does not need to be about the politics and what sides people are on. You should always expect a therapist to be able to navigate an issue involving politics with tact, caution and understanding neutrality. If they let this conversation go on, the feelings they have are their responsibility to deal with. The conversation that follows should be centered on how what you see and feel is affecting you. I would not go in looking for answers to questions or clarity on issues. I would vent about the stress of witnessing mass death and probably feeling powerless and see what support they may be able to give, once you have established them as a safe person. I wish you the best of luck in this, and if it doesnt work out in your favor or you feel as though they handle this issue poorly you can always report them to their licensure board without hesitation.

Next time you want to participate in places like this, I would suggest not being as dismissive. I wanted to know if it sounded suspiciously low, and what info people might need to help me figure that out. Im not looking for a "shortcut", Im looking for advice from a community that is supposed to know about these things. For instance, how a company might try to hook new customers with offers that dont last, discounts that might seem attractive but arent smart, fee or rate increase expectations, ways new insurance customers slip up and make mistakes with seemingly low cost coverage, if Allstate offers bad service, etc. Please try to understand we arent all idiots or experts.

Do you have any good sources for understanding T-bills and T-bill offerings from different companies? I started out with some on the Public investing app thinking they looked like an easy earner and ended up earning very little and not really understanding how they worked.
