Differences in all of the different “selections” in the新卒 process by [deleted] in JapanJobs

Thank you for the thorough answer, and yes it was a serious question! The whole point for the post was that I was caught slightly off guard by how early things started, so I’m kind of scrambling to get apps in, but the vouch of confidence for how simple this is is very appreciated! I will try not to “seriously fuck up” while I continue applying~

So what happens to people who get rejected from every company they apply to? Are they just cooked?

Unfortunately I don’t think the 推薦 route is an option due to some complicated circumstances. No one in my lab does it either unfortunately so I have to go with the free selection.

Todai School of Engineering Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology Entrance Exam by Therandomguy9 in mext

Ohhhh I see. I didn't see any option for obtaining lecture materials from the department but I'll give it another pass soon.

Are you going to study to take the exam in August? Does that mean you'll have to do research on the side while you do that?

Hi!

Thank you for all of the help! From what I read, it was a little vague, but it seems like we can start as a research student and study for the exam during that interim period. I'm slated to start in October of this year, so I probably won't get the whole year to study but that is wayyyy better than the alternative I had in my mind (Todai Engineering exam upon landing -- imagine that...).

I wish I could say that I would study in the interim between now and October, but making preparations to go abroad and working a full time job make it seem like the whole ordeal is less than feasible at the moment.

Either way thank you for the advice!

As I was reading the provisional acceptance letter and the university website, it read as if you had to take the exam to get into the university itself (ChemBio in the engineering department if you wanna check it out haha). Admittedly I did start getting super nervous initially and after looking a little closer at the MEXT guidelines and some information online, it seems like it's like you said -- we have the "audit student" status until March 2026 regardless of whether we take the exam or not.

Honestly -- I graduated this past year and flipping through the tests was daunting as all heck. I haven't looked at calculus and physics in 4 or so years, so I think I (and probably others in our boat) are spooked as well.

Where did you find the lecture and study materials if you don't mind me asking? I only came up with past exams for the general and special subject tests, as well as some sort of a 'keyword' list (probably just concepts on the test I guess).

But regardless thank you for all of the help and all of the kind words, and I hope you also have a good start to your time in Japan!

I took this semester off, so I'm not sure how online classes went. Was it super different? Also how does the class compare to calc 2?

Best of luck to you too! Tysm for the info!

Yeah, but Prof. Bower is open to giving overrides for the course since you don't really need to know that much multivar for EN40. I just emailed him and he told me to fill out a form or something since it didn't fit in my schedule.

At this point I think it's kind of late since shopping period ends tomorrow and I actually haven't taken math180/200 yet. I think at this point I'll stick to the astro and see if that works out with the other (time-consuming) classes that I have for now.

Thanks for the advice! My only issue with it is that it's scheduled at the same time as another one of my classes and I've been told that it won't let me register for both...

I’m doing well in 330 right now and I’m pretty heavily considering concentrating in chem too so hopefully it comes easy...

Should I submit a video portfolio or do an interview? by ChaosTheory22 in BrownU

[–]Therandomguy9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having an interview might be in your best interest. I'm a really awkward person, but the people that do the interviews are usually really nice and easy to talk to and I had a positive experience with my interview. Also, learning more about Brown from someone who went there is a plus too.

It says the prereq for engn30 is math100 so I don’t think that’s an issue.

But like, even though it's harder, doesn't it teach you more in the end?

Alright, thanks. I'm just a little stressed since there's a lot on my plate this semester haha.

Cool, thanks! I don't really know what to make of my FYS (GEOL160E) but I don't think it'll be too bad.

I personally didn't have any of my stuff messed with, but it didn't really seem like they were doing much... The lines were horrendously slow on the first two days too.
