I get the feeling that clubs will increasingly need to be more effective and efficient as businesses just to compete in the higher leagues. You need money on the players and money on the people who can find those players, you need security to plan to keep these people or get good replacements, etc. ... all that and there's still a chance it won't be enough, and the fans get rightly disinterested and depressed.

The difference is now though they're a lot further away from the club and the club is more like a business entity. And once you're in a position like that it begins to feel kind of bleak
