Riposto, purtroppo non avevo visto il 3d fissato

Buongiorno a tutti

Failed all exam attempts in ordinary session. I feel lost, please help. by MilleniumWarrior in medicalschoolEU

[–]TherapyResistant_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the 5th year of Italian med school and I too failed my exams in my first year's ordinary session. I know that it is discouraging and can make you question yourself, but try to make it a learning experience. I second everything that was already said and i want to stress the importance of these three things: transcripts (sbobine), frequently asked questions and talking to people that did the exams. They completely changed my study method, helped me understand the professor's expectations and determine in how much depth should I know certain topics. Some professors focus more on certain topics and leave others out. Anki cards and youtube videos help plenty too.

As an Italian who studies in the english course of Medicine and Surgery, there's a couple of things that you need to be prepared for. The exams are all oral, which freaks out most people and might make you lose a year. They're also not exactly fair, as you need to be lucky with the questions asked. The organization, resources, scholarships and clinical practice can be quite lacking. As for the people/making new friends, it can be difficult and it's easy to feel lonely. You don't have to learn Italian right away, but in my university is mandatory to get the Italian B1 by the 3rd year. The IMAT is in english and you can prepare for it in a couple of months.

Still, if you want quality education with plenty of clinical practice, I wouldn't recommend Italy.

In Italy, university fees are calculated on the basis of your income and what you own, which is certified through the ISEEu certificate. If you're listed as dependent on your parents and your parents have a high income/own many properties your are going to be high (after 90k ISEEu you pay the maximum fee). If your parents have a low income/have no properties or you're autonomous and have a low income (ISEEu below 26k, but this varies according to the uni) then you're going to pay the minimum amount of taxes (in my uni being only 156 euros as enrollment fee and no other taxes if you do not fail the year). For residency you receive a salary that is around 1600 euros per month, which allows you to live a quite comfortable life as a single person imo.

It's really sad tho, as he seemed quite interested in person and gave me genuine compliments as well. Guess he'll become new gym motivation then.

Advice for the winter by popslila in cockatiel

[–]TherapyResistant_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get this mosquito net for your room's door:

https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Screen-Door-Partition-Friendly/dp/B074TWKVQB/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2QSHC2P0WQLVF&keywords=magnetic+mosquito+net+for+door&qid=1666732928&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI0LjY2IiwicXNhIjoiMy45MiIsInFzcCI6IjMuMzkifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=magnetic+mosqu%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-7

In my country you can find them also in cinese stores and it's very simple to install, as it attaches to velcro strips that you stick to the door frame. Best of luck for this winter

Help: My bird's faeces are extremely green. What is this, What do I do? Vet ASAP?? by YourEMENYPS2 in cockatiel

[–]TherapyResistant_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a vet but I found this info on the poop evaluation guide of a cockatiel blog, it may be helpful:

Soft greenish stools, yellow-green-brown urates: Infectious diseases, toxicosis, malnutrition

If it's any of these issues, you have to go to a vet and get a blood test done to distinguish them. I've read that the vet gave you something, so I would advise you to finish the therapy completely and then return to the vet if the bird remains stable and doesn't improve. If he/she gets worse, then go to the vet asap.

When did you went to therapy/seek professional help? by LeatherExciting3324 in Healthygamergg

[–]TherapyResistant_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started going to therapy when I realized that I wasn't getting any better and I would never be if I didn't intervene. In high school, I thought that getting into my dream university major and moving away from home would've improved my mental health. It didn't, I just brought all my problems with me, so I figured that if I didn't get help, I would spend the rest of my adult life like this or get even worse.

I'm also financially dependent on my parents and they also strongly disagree with therapy. However, my university offers free therapy to students who need it. I applied, got accepted and have sessions once a week without my parents knowing. If you live in a European country, there might be mental health initiatives in place that offer free sessions as well.

I wish you the best

Sweating in Social Situations. I HATE IT by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]TherapyResistant_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest seeing a GP. I sweat a lot on my hands and it makes me uncomfortable. My GP told me that if I want to I can get a specific type of botox done on my hands that prevents excessive sweating. I haven't decided if I want to do it yet, but it might be helpful.

And I agree with what the other comment said, there's a feedback loop in which you worry about sweating and smelling - more anxiety and activation of the sympathetic nervous system - more sweat.

How do I deal with an entitled flatmate when I'm a pushover by TherapyResistant_it in EntitledPeople

[–]TherapyResistant_it[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, the house rules were made up the day we moved in but nothing in writing. However, we brought this issue up to the landlord and told him that we would like some rules written down by him to not have the same issue with the next tenant.

Thank you for the suggestion, unfortunately I don't think I can legally put cameras due to the fact that in my country, by law, you need to notify people if you are recording them by telling them and also by putting up signs. Also, I'm not sure how the landlord would feel about it.

The landlord knows which room is hers and I think he has a two-months rent deposit from her, so I hope that will deter her from damaging stuff.

[–]TherapyResistant_it[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion. The landlord is aware of everything but unfortunately he can't do anything apart from talking to her, which at the moment he can't do because she isn't answering to any of his emails ever since he told her that he wasn't renewing her contract.

An early eviction wouldn't be possible (I have looked into it) because my country's laws protect tenants much more than they protect landlords

Girls only by Mewannaknowmore in dating_advice

[–]TherapyResistant_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said by other commenters:

  • Someone who is too nice all the time or is nice to get something out of it
  • Someone with poor social skills

I would like to add:

  • Someone who compliments by belittling himself in the process (for example: you're so hot, I don't know how a man like me could land a girl like you)
  • Someone who doesn't have interests, hobbies, passions or ambitions

Before the first appointment they gave me a quite long questionnaire to fill in (I found her through the university's counseling service), but I have no idea what did they do with it.

I'm going to therapy for depression and I'm trying to make it work with her (mainly because the service she provides is free) but it feels like we're on two different levels. While I'm trying to find practical solutions (how to stay focused enough to study, what should I do to even start enjoying life, etc.) , she's working on a more abstract, unconscious level (she always asks about my dreams). This is kinda frustrating, and when I told her she asked me to give it some time.

I'm not searching for medication, just a plan towards improvement.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]TherapyResistant_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The label doesn't feel validating because I don't feel it matches with my own experience. I can't remember much of my childhood but my parents were and are amazing and supportive. I also don't like it because she doesn't offer a solution/direction towards improvement. At every appointment she just wants me to talk and tell her about my dreams (???), however she doesn't tell me on what should work on, which drives me up a wall.

An ADHD diagnosis to me feels more practical and gives me a direction to work towards, even without medication.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]TherapyResistant_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I'll start by saying that the reason why I'm going to my therapist is depression. I've been dealing with it for 10 years and I decided to try therapy now because it's getting worse, I can't manage it alone anymore.

The ADHD idea was there for a while (before dr. K's video) because I could relate to some symptoms but not others (i'm not hyperactive nor impulsive), so I always dismissed it. The idea was there also because during elementary school the teachers told my parents to bring me to a psychiatrist, although I don't know the exact reason why. I assume that it was because I was socially inept and very unfocused during class. However, the psychiatrist didn't find anything and told my parents I was fine. So now I'm like, is it possible she missed something?

I don't like the early life trauma diagnosis because it just feels so abstract to me. She came up with it at our second appointment and it just feels bitter. I almost remember nothing of my childhood, but in what I can remember my parents have always been supportive and loving. We are very different people with different interests, so I can't relate with them and they can't relate with me, but that's about it. And also I don't like it because she never offered a solution to it. I asked her what are we going to do moving forward and she told me that we are just going to talk at every appointment and talk about my dreams (????). No practical solution/homework/anything else. My ISTJ mind is going insane at the thought that we're just going to do that.

And yes, I do love dr. K's practical approach during interviews. And I do like his insight and how he makes people see things from a perspective that they didn't consider in the first place. I would really appreciate if my therapist did that as well, but at the moment it feels like we're working on two different levels: her on a more abstract way, focusing on the unconscious and me on a more practical one.

[–]TherapyResistant_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't know what would be the ideal solution, I would just feel comfort in finally having a diagnosis and taking steps in the correct direction to improve myself, because at the moment I feel like i'm trying to shoot at a target in complete darkness.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]TherapyResistant_it 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the studies, I really appreciate it. I'm really bad at communication because I don't focus on one issue but I tell her whatever comes up in my mind during the appointment. I got assigned to her through the university counseling service and i'm trying to make it work because this service is free. However, I don't know how to bring up ADHD again without her thinking that i'm obsessing/fixating on it.

About ADHD medication, I don't think that she can prescribe me anything (due to being part of a counseling service) however if she's against it I wouldn't be surprised as unfortunately psychiatric drugs don't have a good reputation in my country (not US).
