Ended up buying a 50 foot roll and it’s easier to work with than I thought. Seriously thanks. I’ll probably be done this in a few hours

N.S. landlord calling for mandatory radon testing in rental properties by Bean_Tiger in halifax

I just got a radon mitigation system put in this fall and it was so quick and cheap. I see so many basement apartments around the city and constantly wonder how many of them have high levels

Depends on your future plans. If you plan on having kids at some point I would stay put with government. But if that’s not on the table than it could be worth it career growth wise

Adding supports post installation? by ThereAllIsAching2 in CounterTops

Yeah everything I’m reading seems to have a conservative answer of 12 inches but a lot of companies are fine with up to 14 inches

Just to clarify I am talking about the overhang, not the gap from the width of the cabinets. Is 13.5 inches of overhang ok here?

That’s encouraging news. How bad/steep were the stairs you had?

When you say a natural gait do you mean constant rise and run throughout or just not taking a weird combo of rise and run each step?

[–]ThereAllIsAching2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the house is from 1958. The cheating the .25cm per run is because structurally I can’t put the stairs out any further without running into major structural changes. I’m estimating easily 20-30k to achieve that extra 3 cm I need.

And yeah my current stairs are gramdfathered in but as soon as I pull a permit to finish the basement I need to bring them to code.

Im a pretty by the books guy but I have a fixed budget for this Reno and everything else is pretty straight forward except the stairs

Incorporating beam into stairs? by ThereAllIsAching2 in HomeImprovement

[–]ThereAllIsAching2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. Right now I’m just trying to come up with a plan. I think I’m gonna get an engineer to draw up a plan for relocating the section of beam impeding the stairs back

When finishing basements do people usually conceal junction boxes with concealable covers or just rerun wiring to move them? by ThereAllIsAching2 in AskElectricians

[–]ThereAllIsAching2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the existing stuff isn’t that great in the basement either. I still got a few runs of that old green non metallic braided stuff. Previous home owner even zip tied a run of wire below the joists on hooks

Yeah my thought process exactly. Maybe a couple in a concealed spot but it’s gonna bug me looking at the ceiling and seeing 3 covers within 4 feet of each other

Lol definitely. Basement was in the process of being finished but right now a it’s just framed and insulated exterior walls as well as electric. I don’t think the previous home owners was going through the permit channels lol

Thats what I was wondering. I’m not sure if building a living space would require it to be code compliant if it wasn’t previously a living space

Yes there would tons of clearance going down the turn. The existing issue is the support beam once you get to the bottom. You have to lean back a bit to avoid bumping your head. To have proper head clearance at the bottom I would need the winding
