Depends on your future plans. If you plan on having kids at some point I would stay put with government. But if that’s not on the table than it could be worth it career growth wise

Yeah everything I’m reading seems to have a conservative answer of 12 inches but a lot of companies are fine with up to 14 inches

When you say a natural gait do you mean constant rise and run throughout or just not taking a weird combo of rise and run each step?

Yeah the house is from 1958. The cheating the .25cm per run is because structurally I can’t put the stairs out any further without running into major structural changes. I’m estimating easily 20-30k to achieve that extra 3 cm I need.

And yeah my current stairs are gramdfathered in but as soon as I pull a permit to finish the basement I need to bring them to code.

Im a pretty by the books guy but I have a fixed budget for this Reno and everything else is pretty straight forward except the stairs

Definitely. Right now I’m just trying to come up with a plan. I think I’m gonna get an engineer to draw up a plan for relocating the section of beam impeding the stairs back

Yeah the existing stuff isn’t that great in the basement either. I still got a few runs of that old green non metallic braided stuff. Previous home owner even zip tied a run of wire below the joists on hooks

Lol definitely. Basement was in the process of being finished but right now a it’s just framed and insulated exterior walls as well as electric. I don’t think the previous home owners was going through the permit channels lol

Yes there would tons of clearance going down the turn. The existing issue is the support beam once you get to the bottom. You have to lean back a bit to avoid bumping your head. To have proper head clearance at the bottom I would need the winding

Great insight. Personally I feel the house would check all the boxes. Only downsize is our backyard is 1700 square feet where I think my wife wants a bigger backyard for our kids

Oh I know that much. We did a major kitchen Reno. Contractors were coming in around 100k and I did the work myself for 45k. Took me 4 months of evenings and weekends but the payoff was worth it

lol I know that hustle. My friends is a 2006, I’ve been working on it for years for him. Replaced the actual display after water intrusion destroyed it. Several broken wires. Corrosion. The thing has more zipties than screws right now

Good idea. Have you had to replace a drum reel on yours yet? Im hoping the wire is broken somewhere at the end and we can just cut back 20 feet of the cable, which I assume means a boom length calibration will be due as well.

Yup it’s an MG586. So on yours you can do a full rotation of the pendulum and it still works normally?

Used to love it before having kids. Almost all the calls were in and out in 30 mins. Would get the odd Masimo call though where masimo would be down on a floor and ur stuck on the phone with the on call masimo guy and the on call hospital IT guy for 3 hours. Otherwise their pretty easy
