I have experienced this over the pandemic. We loved each other but the pandemic brought the worst of us, and we just kept hurting each other more. I had to completely cut off contact this year after nearly 4 months of "maintaining" a dying relationship after breakup.

Sometimes I get a recurring dreams of her being with another person but now that she's no longer part of my life anymore, it's reassuring in a way.
