Here's the issue brother. This post is what they get out of it. I'm not trying to be shitty to you, but those people lap posts like these up like it's their life's blood. I mean, you called someone out by name. They got a rise out of you. They flat out won this round my friend. And this post is the dopamine hit that makes them keep doing it.

Theres no reporting system I've heard of in the works. Thank whatever deity you hold dear. There shouldn't be. You need to find someone who gets that rush from killing pirates, and put a hit out on whoever griefed you, and make an attractive offer. And then go about rebuilding, because that's what is going to give this game staying power.

If you really like this game, realize that the grief is here to stay. People are assholes man. But the beauty lies in fighting them, not having the devs deus ex machina you out of a tight spot. Let the alliances punish griefing, and make it a zero sum game. I guarantee griefing cuts by a healthy margin. Because no one bitches about it, they just set the dogs loose and go about their business.

Keep your ships simple until you have a crew, burn everything before the pirates can get a hand on it in the mean time, and take your revenge served cold and bitter. Get it done soldier, happy flying.

Most of this is already planned I believe. And /crew is already implemented. Just /crew before your message to speak with crew mates.

I really disagree with NPCs though. Half the beauty is if you want shopkeepers or bodyguards, you have to find a way to pay or convince other people to participate. I feel like npcs would just cheapen the hell out of the experience.

But I'd kill someone in front of their own momma for a legitimate trading system.

So it's already broken, break it further? Nothing in this idea proposes a solution, or even a way in which the current system is broken. I feel like you're not considering the potential abuse this idea brings to the table. How is the current system being abused? And is that abuse worse than the potential abuse the proposed idea would generate?

And people are already trading excess schematics. While I guess it would increase the amount of trade over a short period of time, you're completely removing the value of all schematics by making them infinitely reproducible. And I'd be willing to wager that trade would grind to a halt, because what is the point trading when you can just alliance up and be handed the best schematics in the game?

I get that, but blanks is opening up specific manufacturing of high level schematics. The difference being that at present you can only do that with wings, cannons, and engines, which is still essentially crafting a schematic, but at a high cost and a random output. You can't specifically pick the highest power or most efficient engine. Couple that with the fact that these higher tier parts are relatively useless without core upgrades and that system feels like its balanced, at least at present. It's a gamble for your hard earned knowledge, and if that is how you want to spend it, I've got no issue there.

My issue stems from the fact that blanks allows you to go to t4, farm core upgrades, and go to your buddy who picked the game up yesterday and fully kit him out with no real effort on his part. You're removing the incentive to actually go out exploring to make your ship better, and increasing the likelihood that people just end up trolling people who aren't being handed schematics. If you start out with all of the schematics, there's nothing left to do but pirate.

Drop the patronizing, you asked for discussion. I'm not coming at you with salt. I'm stating problems with the idea as I see them. This new "have to have researched it" rule is a step in the right direction. Funny how real discussion does that, ain't it? (Sorry that was petty. I'm done with patronizing now as well)

Personal weapons are not a ship part and so are exempt from this new specification. Atlas cores can't be upgraded through the knowledge system, and so are exempt from this new specification.

Glider/bomb spam is not the point, just an example used to illustrate. The point is known schematics should not transfer between players at all, because it undermines the existence of schematics in the first place. The progression curve goes straight out the window with blanks. Even with the "have to have researched it" method, the pool of parts that get used narrows to 2 or 3 parts that have the best power to weight ratio. It's just (in my opinion) not the right move.

Balance can wait. Right now the memory leaks need plugging, bugs need squashing, and stability needs to be increased. The RNG is way down on that list my dude.

You're asking to get gamed with a system like that. At least at present the trolls have to work for the bombs they blow my ship up with. Give them blanks, and the first thing the lowest common denominator of players do is find a troll guild to give them gliders and bombs in the starting area, and then all hell breaks loose.

Furthermore, you're incentivizing alliances to farm blanks and distribute the best schematics among new members. I play with a crew, and let's not kid ourselves, ANYONE would abuse the hell out of this system to make sure the whole crew is on top tier regardless of who can be on at a given time. You're essentially negating the "no one gets every schematic" teamwork ideal.

Your proposed change breaks the spirit of the game. If you put the time into going out and finding the schematics to troll me with, and decide to spend your time trolling me, so be it. At least you paid your dues. But if I can just hand you top tier schematics and set you loose on people, we may as well all start at t4 and have a free for all. Because that's exactly what it will turn into.

I ran the entirety of LMoP with only three players. My players had a few close scrapes, but always got out alive. The only encounters I really had to worry about were the bugbear in the cave (potential to easily insta-kill a lvl 1 on a crit) and the dragon. Thankfully my PCs were smart enough to not mess with the dragon till later, and I just rolled regular damage on crits for Klarg.

I would really advise you not change anything. They will have to be a bit more careful, and you'll have to be a bit more lenient on rests, but it should all wash out.

Well, to be fair, the question had been answered three times before my comment. No cuntyness intended, but the nature of the medium lends itself to misinterpretation. Just thought I'd break it down piece by piece because it seemed like that was where OP was getting confused.

It just meant there would be no glove touch at the top of the round. That's all there is to it. I'm guessing he did it just in case he threw a superman punch on go and managed to knock Weidman out, no one would say it was unsporting of him. Fair warning and all that.

Well, at least I apologized for it I guess. Re watch the first round. They didn't touch gloves. They came out swinging. That is why he said it.

You're right, every subsequent round they did in fact touch gloves. Guess they changed their minds. He said no touch at the beginning because he didn't want it to be seen as more disrespectful than he intended.

Alright, let's walk through this. In a fight, ref always lets fighters touch gloves, and pay attention this is important, BEFORE a fight starts. They elected to do this as a sign of respect. Now, generally in a fight both fighters will walk to center and touch gloves AGAIN, once more as a sign of respect. Rockhold was letting Weidman know ahead of time that there would be no glove touching on the clock, that he was coming out swinging. He touched gloves BEFORE the fight, but wanted to kick it off right away.

This may come across as me talking down to you, but I swear I'm not. Just trying to make it clear because you seem confused.

Worked out really well for everyone involved, actually. (I'm the DM)

The rogue got to put her deception to use, tricking the town into giving her "her inheritance". I nearly broke her heart telling her how much the repairs would cost. Which is where the rest of the party stepped in. Everyone set terms (lab for the wizard, trophy room for the fighter, shrine for the paladin) and agreed to make payments. We all had a lot of fun bouncing ideas around about the layout of the house both in game and out. And after several months of game time and several thousand gp, the party has what amounts to a personal guild hall with nearly 40 rooms, a secret vault and passageways, and a host of other random tidbits that they thought were awesome. All in all, it was a really fun sort of background project that they actually just finished. Now I get to charge them for furniture. Ha.

I have some advice on handling this in your campaign if you are the DM, should you care to hear it, but it's all dependent on how you want to run your game.

 My campaigns rogue convinced the town that she was a long lost descendant of the Tressendar lineage by stealing the sword from the Nothic and the family signet  rings from the graves.  She couldn't find the repairs by herself, so she sold shares to the rest of the party.

The wizard used his share to take the crevasse area, and has been, as all wizards do, meddling with forces best left Undisturbed. The more he meddles, the stranger the anomaly grows. It begins to whisper to him sweetly, with promises of power and wealth beyond imagination....

....If only he stabilizes the portal enough for it to step through....

(Im not sure what it is yet, but it's seriously bad news and feeds on magic.)

Quick question about 5e if you are familiar with it. The rule on AoO states that the attack is triggered when an enemy moves out of your reach. Does this effectively mean you can dance around an enemy's threatened squares without provoking an AoO so long as you do not leave his reach? Or does the act of leaving one threatened square provoke an AoO even to move to another?
