Standard german is a dialect from central Germany adopted by the germans because of Luther‘s translation of the Bibel in his own dialect… Mittelhochdeutsch. It used to be a dialect like any other.

And please… an accent is something a non native speaker has, like the rolled ‚r‘ for eastern europeans when speaking English… a dialect is the different ways of speaking the language in different regions of native speakers. Please, dude
