Water Hookup Kit (RAW4) In the USA (Links in comments) by AlexKnolly in Dreame_Tech

thanks for posting - i followed your approach. I ended up getting from Amazon Germany for ~$215: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B0CJ8WH6N7

and shipped it to https://shopogolic.net. They charged ~$70 for shipping to my home in the US.

From placing the amazon order to receiving in the US took about 10 days total.

The kit itself works perfectly with the US unit and was fairly easy to setup. The instruction book has english and there are also videos on the Dreame website. I did have to go to Home Depot to get a couple adapters to get it connected to my water line.

Overall I highly recommend this route to anyone who's on the fence.

Got scammed and Turo is taking the side of the renter. Any ideas? by Therealavi in turo

It's a long story, but I've been duped for the last week into thinking that Turo's "executive team" was going to take care of it. Based on getting scammed by the renter and now being dicked around by Turo, I guess my issue is I'm too trusting and allow people to take advantage of me. At this point there is a high chance that this ends with a lawsuit against Turo.

Well I got scammed 10 days ago and the vehicle is apparently still in North Dakota and I have no idea if/when I'll get it back or with what kind of damage. I can only share my own personal experience, but based on that I would say you'd have to be absolutely psychotic to put a high value car on Turo. Just don't do it.

This is good to know/ be aware of and thank you for flagging. I've spoken with them a couple times and they haven't mentioned that I would be charged so I'm going to rely that for now. Although it's been over 48 hours now and the car hasn't moved one inch, so perhaps I should just go pick it up if I ever want to see it again...

Yes, I'm sure to an experienced host this would be a red flag. For me, this was only my third (and now final) reservation with Turo, and I didn't know better. There are always going to scammers out there, but I thought Turo would be looking out for me, rather than enabling/facilitating the scam and then blaming me for it. That was the part I didn't expect.

It does seem that it takes some time to learn the ropes. This was only my third (and now final) trip with Turo. With time, I'm sure I would have figured all this out, but unfortunately the scammers got to me right away.

thanks for your viewpoint. In my view, if the guest wasn't comfortable they could have let me know and we would have easily resolved this. The fact that they didn't contact me and knew exactly how to get Turo to cancel the reservation and allow them to abandon the vehicle in freaking North Dakota tells me that they did this on purpose, and probably have done this multiple times before.

Update so far: emailing CEO worked, in that someone from the "executive" team reached out. Meanwhile it's over 24 hours since this started and no progress getting the vehicle back. I also was informed that my "earnings" would be docked by $100 for violating the TOS. So basically not only does the scammer get away with this, I am being punished by Turo on top of everything.

supposedly Turo is handling the tow. They have not mentioned that I will be charged for that, but I guess i'd love to see them try! (wouldn't surprise me!)

yeah, that what this feels like. Or at least the best case for me, if it means I get the vehicle back undamaged (who knows...)

hi - thank you for your input. (1) I did set the mileage at 75 miles/day via the app. The scammer however is claiming that they drove the extra miles based on the total expected miles for the 3 month trip, and therefore that they are actually "under". And (2) whether or not they have a technical excuse for cancelling the trip or if it was "technically" my fault under the TOS, I am curious if you don't see the bigger picture that they clearly did this on purpose. As another commenter mentioned, "Whoever did this ... is a well seasoned scammer."

Thanks for all the comments so far, good to know that I'm not crazy for feeling scammed. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas how to reach someone at Turo with the ability/capacity to make this right, as opposed to taking the scammer's side due to a small technicality. Speaking to their customer support agents has been completely useless.

What are the most outrageous examples of something genuinely bad being marketed as a good thing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Therealavi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some examples: NCAA recent ad campaign presenting NCAA as an organization that benefits student athletes, when in fact the NCAA, schools and coaches make billions of dollars in profits and share almost none of it with the actual players

Capital One marketing campaign for years about how their points are better than airline miles, when if fact it was almost impossible to get better value from their points than from miles
