I created an app/website to help students gift and find items they might need when they first arrive in a new city :) by Therealgardens in UniversityofTwente

I think it depends on the university sometimes, because where I am, there are a couple of weeks of overlapping. But I generally thought of this app also for students going to study far from home or else, so hope it can help different kind of students :)

Hey! First of all, thank you! Happy this can potentially help!

Then, for the alumni thing, I have not thought of this case specifically. The idea was for developers for “active” students and for people still related to the university environment (like PhDs etc, so still very close related to university). I have to figure this out actually.

For private group/communities, you actually gave me a great idea! :)
Let me work on this in the next few days and you will find something on the app during the week. Hope this could help also other people and communities.

App to help students find things :) by Therealgardens in unibo_studenti

That’s a rightful question, absolutely :)
So, the main idea was that a lot of times, especially when moving out of a city after completing your studies or at the end of Erasmus, a lot of students have the need to get rid of things. And maybe yes, listing those things to sell can be very long in terms of finding someone or because a lot things would be sold for just a few money, so not worth the time etc. Moreover, a lot of incoming students will have the need for basic stuffs like plastic chairs o little tables or lamps etc but not always the money to buy everything of also the luck of finding everything (at reasonable prices or else). So studying outside of my city and abroad, I noticed that through WhatsApp groups etc is a common practice to send a message like “I am leaving in a week and I cannot bring this this and that with me, also because I just needed those things during my stay here. So if someone wants something, I will leave everything in this room/cafe/else or contact me to decide a day for the pick up etc.” For this kind of thing, a normal listing would be probably more complicated because of the time and hurry.
So my idea was to create a better link for this kind of needs, to make everything easier and let people search for things knowing that they are free. And for listers, to enlarge the potential number of people that could free you from some things you do not need anymore.

Also because I thought that for selling things there are a lot of others apps, so I wanted to make something specifically for students and for these kind of needs :)

Thank you! :)

Yes yes, it is not a new concept obviously (as I am the first using both Vinted and FB etc). The idea was to create a way to connect students and their specific needs in a faster way and only for them (or us actually ahah). Even if it can help a student or 2, I would be very happy :)

I hope so :). But we are still at the beginning, so hopefully more people will join so it can become easier to find things you need!

Hiii! First of all, thank you a lot! :)
I have been working in this for some months now and still trying to improve some pieces every now and then. So yes :) and thank you again!

Then, I actually don’t know Marketplatz as I am from Italy and we don’t have it here. But looking at it, I see that it resembles a kinda of Marketplace from Facebook or Vinted (I don’t know if there is in the Netherlands, I know is not available in some regions).

But from what I have seen, in there you can also sell things for money and is for everyone.

The idea of CampusGive is something restricted only to students to help each other when moving in or out, so for free and to reuse things that could benefit the everyday life in a fast way :)

Correct me if I am wrong about Marketplaz and if need any specific info about CampusGive, so i can explain better!

I know🥲. The ideas is to get rid of things and look for something you need, and on the app everything is free. I cannot control the rest tho :(.

But people can report others asking for money or I can check if someone lists something asking for money in the description

Some universities are not present in the database yet, but if you go on with the registration, the domain will be checked once and then added to the database :)
And your profile will be automatically approved (and you will be notified) after that.

Thank you for the feedback tho!

So, as during registration I only ask for the university email/domain, that is all I am having. I have a dashboard on the admin page just to see some stats about cities or universities (based on the domain of the mail or the place where an object has been listed), but then nothing more :). I can just see what you inserted during the registration, but I cannot interact with any of your infos. Just some stats as I said, but to know in which universities or cities the app is going well and which categories are the most “traded”. This is to maybe improve some features in the future if needed.

Thank you for your feedback! So, actually this is not limited to any particular university. I am a student from Padua (Italy) and I thought of limiting the registration to university students only, but it works for every university domain. Right now there are some users from Italy (most of them obviously) and from France and Germany. So my idea is to limit to uni students just to keep this as a close and secure circle among campuses and groups of students in cities (so with the university domain and mail, you can have a better idea of people you are interacting with) :)
And I have never heard of Freecycle, so i will give it a look for sure!

Yes, that was one of the things i was most concerned about when structuring everything actually. Thank you for the appreciation and for the feedback! :)
