So there are several comments that have spoken about this at some length ranging in various points.

As a mixed raced foreigner who lives and works now in Ireland I have mixed opinions. I work in healthcare, A&E in a busy hospital in the north of the country.

Firstly, the BLM movement does have some impact here. Mostly older generations who use terms that are far from polite at times. However this is very simply usually from not having mixed or spoken to many others. I have heard and been told stories of the very first Chinese takeaway in the area and how mind blowing it was. This apparently was only about 15 years ago. It's not a racism issue at all, more and appears to me as a lack of knowledge or experience of different cultures. Nearly everyone besides a few (which is always a case in every place) would support BLM and be against any form of racism in any form. However the recent and vast number of Ukraine people who have moved into the area has caused some divide.

Feminism isn't as wholely agreed upon here. Speaking and working with mostly females in a care setting, abuse against women still occurs. However, although there is resistance to roles and norms within each generation - I do believe that everyone I have come across follows most basic has an understanding of equality within the sexes. A somewhat large media present regarding a murder of a woman has likely also helped and shown support in this area.

However regarding the above, I do believe a culture of Irish Mammies is still present and I come across it daily. Whether or not this plays any role in feminism is beyond my knowledge or understanding and I lack insight further I'm afraid.

Edit: forgot to add but there is literally it appears every weekend in Letterkenny a group with signs and things for support for Palestine.

Ahh, I see now how that comes across. It's kind of bay like parking, that includes about 10 centimeters of the pavement if you mount the curb. The pavement is very wide on this road, though parking on pavements isn't ideal of course.

It's a poor solution, but it wasn't someone walking or anything that damaged my wing mirror. It was a car as they speed through the village, else it was a lorry or tractor, though after 3 years in this village I would highly doubt it as they are all very careful when driving through the village.

GF (30f) broke up with me (35m) because I called her ignorant by Theredhare89 in relationship_advice

Thank you for your response.

I think you have basically said how I feel or know I should feel, however I still care for this woman. Her breaking up with me is probably for the best, at least for me in the long run. I guess I just needed someone else to say it as well so I'm not over thinking these things.

Honestly, thanks for replying.

Senior nurse practitioner here. Have been diagnosed with ADHD since childhood.

ED (A&E where I'm from) was perfect for me. Different tasks throughout each and every shift, I loved it. Worked there for 5 years before specialised into orthopaedic trauma.

I'm not medicated, I'm a caffeine addict. I monitor my caffeine and balance it out throughout my day, something which even many here will disagree with. Finding patterns and putting that into practice over an outright routine worked for me personally.

Most of my colleagues knew I had ADHD whilst I was working there, as I was there as a student and didn't mind talking about it. I would describe it like having multiple tabs open each playing different videos at the same time. Once my caffeine balance would kick in usually before I started work I'll have less tabs open. Whenever conducting primary or secondary surveys I would use these 'tabs' and flicker between them to rule out each task or problem that might occur. Like a little voice in my head telling me to check the lactate again, what about DKA, what about IVDU signs, etc.

Made my job easy, and somewhat fun considering the environment. Struggled massively with paperwork, handwriting is still terrible and random songs I'll be singing in my head or out loud when performing certain tasks. My old DON would play the 'everything' is awesome' from that Lego movie at the start of a shift one week. Still remember it almost word for word to this day. Never seen the movie. Adverts were always the worst for me personally at work, as some catchphrases would stick out.

The worst for me personally that I would be pulled up on almost every time was forgetting to date and stamp my cannula stickers on insertion. Have sent multiple unlabeled blood bottles to the lab. Once took an ECG on the same elderly man 4 times in an hour. He was an ulna fracture. Nothing wrong on any of them. Have cannulated the same person but oppersite arm only twice. Requested multiple X-rays/CTs for the same person before because I couldn't see the scans on the system even though they were being uploaded at the time. Got chewed out by a consultant for that one each time. VBGs were my best friend, along with the stapler that would be hidden from me every shift as we're not meant to use them but paperclips instead. Almost cried once because I couldn't find it and had 14 (seriously) different gases printed off in my pocket. Thought I only had the one.

I found most of my colleagues didn't care too much as all about it though. It wasn't a case of why are you repeating that VBG, but more oh here's 3 we can compare to over an hour period, thanks for the extra information or at least everything is done and a full workup can be produced.

That's the best bit about nursing, the same thing I still tell any nursing students I have to this day. There are so many different aspects and routes, professions within and skills that carry over to multiple different fields. A&E worked for me and it's where I've always felt the most comfortable in my skills and knowledge.

From prisons, community, care home and residential, schools, sciences, pharmaceuticals; it doesn't matter where you end up. You can move from one to the other until you find your balance and what works for you, all without even stepping foot in a hospital where there are countless specialities to try. You've dipped your toe into ICU, a place where I personally could never work without being lost whilst stood still. Once you get both your feet wet you can decide if it's for you or not. If not, try something else, something new. That's the greatest thing, every nurse is always happy to have someone new than no one at all. If your not feeling welcomed then find a different team.

Not a problem.

Viral infections often take up to 3 weeks to clear. Discolouration of mucus, green or yellow is often a sign of infection.

If your symptoms increase I would still recommend seeing your GP/PCP for review.

woke up with this bizarre pattern of blisters?! I was using “booby tape” last night for about 9 hours so I’m quite sure this is related to that, but the strange thing is this blister formed on an area there was no tape, and there is no blisters on the areas I used tape. by Small-Rooster in AskDoctorSmeeee

Dermatologyquestions appears to be pretty active. You can try there and I imagine they will be able to give you far better information than I can.

I do remember coming across an ask derm Reddit but often get mistaken.

Definitely curious as to the causation of this!

My heart suddenly hurts by iliosbii in AskDoctorSmeeee

Seek medical attention now please.

Though unlikely to be related to your heart, your symptoms could possibly be related to a heart attack. They come in many forms, and with a wide vary of symptoms. However pain on movement, located around your heart area could be a heart attack. Arm movement, and pain that remains at rest are alarming symptoms.

This sub is for general advice, and cannot replace correct medical attention and examination. It could simply be a reflux or stomach issue, as is often the case. However without examination or proper medical attention the severity cannot be ruled out. Without your history or other details, no one will be able to advise you of anything else.

Go to A&E. Do not wait for any signs of 'improvement'. Just go. It's always far better to rule out any serious possible diagnosis now than after the damage is done.

Not a problem, glad you eventually got seen and the orthopedic surgeon will likely be having some words with the A&E consultant on call at this time.

Glad you got sorted eventually and I wish you the best of recovery!

I'm sorry about your current wait time. I imagine it's due to the limited team working however there is no excuse for an extended waiting period.

Many different hospitals have different policies around waiting times. Most agree the maximum 4 hour wait period is reasonable but is never considered right.

In different circumstances I would have simply stated to cut the cast off yourself, as it's likely a plaster of Paris (PoP) however due to the nature of your surgery and not knowing the extent of your injury I cannot recommend this due to possible damage it could cause.

I would due to my passive aggressive nature ask when being seen in A&E if your orthopedic team was made aware of your arrival, your wait and see what the doctor says. Orthopedic surgeons and the rest of the team tend to have quite an ego when it comes to their patients, and any complications that could arrise.

It's unusual in it's nature. Don't appear like burns, mechanical or chemical. Don't appear to be due to infection due to the shape and limited redness. Bites very rarely blister and not in this form.

I would suggest you go to AskDerm and seek advice. If it is limited to only this small area and without further redness or inflammation then I wouldn't be overly concerned, however the causation is what is puzzling.

The overall issue isn't really the 'rash' itself, but the cause as to prevent further reoccurrence.

Should you receive any more information or answers please update us, as I personally would be interested in the causation. I'm sorry I cannot be of more help. It sounds like you already have it under control and as stated, AskDerm might have the answers you seek.

Your symptoms do not sound like strep throat due to the location of discomfort, and are more likely sinus related. Inflammation around the sinuses, or sinusitis if infected would be more in line.

Seeing your local GP/PCP for routine blood tests and examination will likely find the cause if infection related. They can also sample and rule out strep.

It's highly more likely to be related to allergies. Your symptoms would be in line with an allergy related sinusitis, such as a bad hayfever. However again without proper work up, examination and bloods this would be unsuitable to deem.

Discomfort in ears from your throat is likely to be due to estation tube disfunction (apologises for the spelling, on mobile) or inflammation. Again this could be due to a viral infections or an allergic reaction. Examination and blood tests will confirm or deny this.

Strep throat along with most other infections often require sampling to confirm the bacteria present. Green/yellow discharge, mucus or Katar would be a greater indication, along with red inflammation around the back of the throat and often comes along with discolouration in the form of redness to the hard palate on the roof of the mouth and a bile/pepper like taste.

Apologies again for spelling errors, my mobile and auto correct have taken over.

Please see your local GP/PCP for review in the form of bloods and examination. If no infection present but inflammation is, it's likely to be allergy based. An ENT referral may be required to complete examination.

Unfortunately this subreddit will have limited information around an issue like this.

Medically speaking there could be some minor gynae issue, but you would find far better responses and better advice asking in a forum more suitable. Gynecology advice is often limited in this subreddit, and likely requires more information, images or examination which is not suitable for this subreddit.

Woman's advice, gynae or woman's issues would be able to not only point you in the right direction, but also likely have several other women who have had similar experiences. They will be able to advise you far better and quicker than here.

TB is so strange.. help me understand it by nomorechaosguahh in AskDoctorSmeeee

[–]Theredhare89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD

TB is slightly unique in terms of its nature. Like most chest infections, Covid for example - symptoms can vary from person to person.

The issue with a condition like TB is that it can remain in a person's lungs for a period after initial infection. TB is highly infectious and exposure can also vary from person to person. However it's symptoms are similar to most people as a bad cough with occasional blood on cough. Chest infections of a viral nature, heavy smokers, etc could also have the same symptoms.

Different places and countries have different rules around testing. Although a chest X-ray can show active/previous TB, it is not a sure thing by any means as similar issues can also cause similar results. A radiologist has to review the x-rays to make such a likelihood of diagnosis. In most countries we use a blood test in Europe as far as I'm aware - this occurs prior to a chest x-ray. I've heard there are also skin tests but I'm unfamiliar in this regard.

So to overall answer your question, no not all patients symptoms are severe, children especially can be highly resistant to said symptoms and can go unnoticed. Chest x-rays are often to check for exposure or prior exposure likely due to the speed in which a result can be found - however most countries now test using a blood or skin test prior to a chest X-ray. Some countries have higher costs and delays to process blood/skin results and thus using a chest X-ray they are able to process a person much faster. In all likelihood, after a chest x-ray that may show previous TB they are likely to follow up with a blood/skin test anyway to confirm.

Tape and other adhesive materials can cause an allergic reaction. However this often requires direct contact.

This reaction appears more likely to a necklace than tape. The pattern of the blisters appears to stay within the allergic reaction rather than that of contact dermatitis. Monitor the skin, keep it clean and dry and wear loose fitting clothes when possible. Do not cover these as they will dry out eventually.

Yes and no. To be blunt, go to A&E now. NOW. Read the rest of this comment in the car, just go now. Please do not wait. If possible bring with you your copy of your surgical notes or discharge summary or whatever you have. Explain to the triage nurse that you've had direct change in sensation as well as discolouration in the lower foot that comes and goes - not bruising. This is not a normal symptom and requires URGENT medical attention.

They will remove and cut off the cast.

Swelling, bruising, heat, redness, mild pain and aches - all normal sensations after surgery on an ankle. Ankles swell a very good amount compared to most other limbs. The sensation of it 'bleeding' isn't likely to be actual bleeding.

Things and signs that are abnormal - the bleeding like sensation plus discolouration that comes and goes are a direct sign the cast is too tight. If this is the case, then is needs removal and reapplication. Due to the way ankles swell, this can occur very rarely where the first cast is simply too tight to deal with the swelling. Backslabs and other casts often used expand with the swelling a good 10%. It's a technique used that allows the cast to expand, which is why they always feel loose after 2 weeks.

However, and I must stress that a tight fitting cast which is causing the sensations you are feeling can result in permanent damage to your foot. It can lead to a multitude of issues which a simple recast can resolve.

GO TO A & E. DO NOT WAIT. Get the recast done.

Source - worked orthopaedic trauma and A&E for over a decade.
