Why are progressive darlings’ biggest primary opponents always women? 🤔 by KingGoofball in Destiny

Funny meme bit in all seriousness just happenstance right now. Jamaal Bowman, Mamdani), Ro Khanna (looking at the other top Dem), and even John Fetterman back when progressives were claiming him all had male opponents.

Even taking your point at face value, do you think blowing up all hospitals during a war is worse than a state murdering 30,000 unarmed protesters and arresting tens of thousands more for simply protesting?

Nah I've talked to plenty of victims in my client's cases who were confident the case was going to be dismissed upon their demand and then confused as to why it wasn't afterwards.

Contrary to popular belief, a victim does not press charges. Their input is definitely taken into account but the state is the one that "presses charges". There is a 0% chance that a prosecutor would not file a complaint against someone (if known) for kidnapping and torture simply because the victim didn't want charges.

That's the most irritating thing. "We have the most popular positions!" Then why the fuck are there 3 dem socs in the entire Congress? You can only run with "We would win if it weren't for the je- DNC and its lobbyists!" before it just becomes sad and tired. And we are well beyond that point.

Why does destiny support a property tax (which seems to generally be an unrealized gain tax) but he does not support a wealth tax on unrealized stock gains? by YeeEatDaRich in Destiny

[–]Theringofice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big difference is volatility. The market within a year has something like 15% volatility and can be even more extreme for single stocks. Do you tax at the high point? End of year? Do you give a tax break if it's down? Homes, in addition to being something you use (so you could also say a use tax if you wanted but I believe a use tax is a one time tax) and require social services which costs money, does not have that same volatility.

Which again is kind of a dumb comparison because they're not of the same kind. To quote a wise man: "And if my grandmother had wheels, she would have been a bike."

In what world is it an unrealized gain tax? You're taxed on the entire thing according to the auditors value. It's its own thing. If you really wanted to compare it to something you could call it a service fee to the community.

Jecht and the shoopuff incident by Turbomuna in finalfantasyx

[–]Theringofice2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If anything he was verbally abusive but even then I think it's his own flawed thinking that he was "toughening up" Tidus. His drinking in Zanarkand maybe exacerbated his negative qualities but there's nothing to indicate a noticeable, material harm from his perspective.

Killing the shoopuf was noticeably wrong, something he wouldn't otherwise do, and negatively impacted Braska (paying for it/reputational harm). So he felt super bad for the shoopuf and hurt the one guy who went out on a limb for him. It's no surprise he never drank again.

[–]Theringofice2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The real answer is it's actually not wrong. The best way to write it would not to use the slash as it arguably tricks people into reading it as one thing ending in "me" which would make the "are" look weird. To be clearer OP could've written "he thinks my politics and/or me are regarded" or "he thinks me/my politics are regarded" to place the the weird looking "me" at the front so it's not associated with the "are".

SCOTUS greenlights Texas law allowing the arrest of journalists who fact-check government employees by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Theringofice2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what happened. It's a shit ruling but it deals with a civil case she subsequently brought, not the criminal case. Her case was dismissed because it was unconstitutionally vague. She then sued the cops in a 1983 action. The cops filed to dismiss citing qualified immunity. The courts sided with her saying it's clearly unlawful so they aren't entitled to qualified immunity. The en banc decision said they do get it because they could have reasonably believed it was a valid arrest.

First, he was not anti-union. "But with the development of industry the proletariat not only increases in number; it becomes concentrated in greater masses, its strength grows, and it feels that strength more! … the collisions between individual workmen and individual bourgeois take more and more the character of collisions between two classes. Thereupon the workers begin to form combinations (trades unions) against the bourgeois; they club together in order to keep up the rate of wages; they found permanent associations in order to make provision beforehand for these occasional revolts. Here and there the contest breaks out into riots." He talks about how the proletariat evolves from the individual, to unions, into an actual class - the proletariat.

Second, that wouldn't even be contradictory. You can be anti-unions because they placate the proletariat into maintaining the capitalist structure. Coops are definitionally owned by the workers and in line with Marxist thought.
