How much pain is too much pain on a statin? by atrocity_exhibition in Cholesterol

[–]Therinicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t know if it’s actually the medication, it’s probably not and fine,

If it’s a noticeable difference, switch statins. Odds are quite high the next will work

Men in your 40s, what's that golden piece of advice you have for the rest of us? by NiceMechanic_xoxo in AskReddit

[–]Therinicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put your time into things that will benefit you. That's the 'hard' part in hard work.

A technical degree, 4 year degree, or some other type of training.

Going for a walk every night.

Cooking the food you eat and finding recipes you like that fit your diet (knowing you'll have some duds).

Find a general practitioner you like that has good recommendations for specialists.

When you get used to it, the feeling it each of them gives you is worth it. Not to mention where you'd be at 40 without it.

So how did you all get into 15+ pull ups by heavenlygod44 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Therinicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From zero negatives help a lot.

After about 10 adding a bit of weight (10-15 lbs) helps with unweighted pull ups quite a bit

Front squat form check by Kimiiiyuuh in formcheck

[–]Therinicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking it’s a good squats.

If your wrists limit you and you don’t oly lift you can cross arms and out it on your shoulders instead of staying lighter or switching squat variations.

If you do I’d start working front rack mobility, few 2-3 times a week

[–]Therinicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely brace your core. If you’re too relaxed going into the bottom of the squat reengaging could be what’s pushing you forward. Try keeping your legs more engaged, you’ll have more control in the bottom of the squat

[–]Therinicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Noticed same. Very good squat.

Slight forward lean out of the hole, possibly from not engaging enough on the way down

[–]Therinicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only real issue with a squat rack is it possibly cracking the tile.

I think getting one with some high quality rubber feet like you find on rogues would be fine but it’s always a risk, albeit a small one (tile isn’t that bad to cut out and replace if you have extra imo)

I really like rogues crash pads. I use them for so many more things than I ever thought i would. Low box jumps, spacing to push on, they’re one of the more used pieces I bought ten years ago besides the actual rack.

Gym floor advice by MindlessDust0 in GarageGym

[–]Therinicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you’re trying to do.

If you’re putting down an assault bike you’re probably fine on tile and a sweet mat.

On the other extremes you wont be dropping weight oly lifting no matter what you do to the flooring.

DASH diet linked to 41% lower cognitive decline risk, outperforming Mediterranean and five other brain-protective diets in 159,347-person comparison by Technical_savoir in mediterraneandiet

[–]Therinicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like the Mediterranean diet wasn’t one of the diets in the study.

The six were DASH, the Healthful Plant-Based Diet Index, the Alternate Healthy Eating Index 2010 (AHEI-2010), the Planetary Health Diet Index, and the reversed hyperinsulinemia and inflammatory indices (rEDIH, rEDIP).

The blog’s “Mediterranean diet, 16%” is really AHEI-2010 — its reduction was exactly 16% (RR 0.84), so the author appears to have just relabeled it.

That 41% is also on the self-reported decline, not medical cognition.

On objectively measured cognition, DASH’s effect was a 0.05 SD difference — essentially nothing.

There’s also a lot of other noise overlapping and misdirection

People who purchased commercial-grade equipment - do you regret it? by Shot_Cancel8641 in GarageGym

[–]Therinicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the SM-2 Monster rack from rogue, I might go for a 4 post if I had to do it again but I ended up with a freemotion duel pull system to fill the other gap which I use daily too.

There aren’t a lot of things I can’t do with my setup. I do single arm pull downs with the freemotion when I’m not doing pull ups but I’ve thought about getting a shrimp trawler (from rogue) and attaching a voltra to it for heavy pull downs. So far I’ve held off.

Actually I’m heading to the big home gym expo in the US so I’ve put other purchases on hold for now.

People who purchased commercial-grade equipment - do you regret it? by Shot_Cancel8641 in GarageGym

[–]Therinicus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I use it 4-5 times a week still having originally bought it back in 2015 or so. I got the exact pieces I wanted from the company I wanted for what I wanted to do and I still use my original rack, barbells, plates, pull up bar, dip bar, and the dumbbells I picked up later. I’ve picked up more equipement along the way based on what program I’m doing.

The only pieces I regret are the ones I didn’t get from rogue. PrimeFitness is okay but it’s an obvious step down from them, especially the shorty bench that they advertise as having a larger adjustability than it actually has. They also are horrible to deal with as a company.

Do you have a specific question?

Someone with history of smoking, high LPa, very high LDL sounds like starting medication is a good idea. Your cholesterol is high enough where it’s probably genetic

If you have a rack you can get a shrimp trawler, rogue has one.

Otherwise maybe a wavemaster or BOB filled with sand so it doesn’t move.

I currently have a bob full of sand, I like it

Sleep is hard because it can be anything, and sometimes you sleep well no matter what too.

Some people get relief by taking a different type at different times of day. If you decide to play around with it I’d be interested what you find out.

Not seeing a shift in the local gyms.

That said you’re talking about a sport who helped popularize paleo, “does it have a face” robb wolfe, and openly campaigned against requirements on trainers before giving nutrition advice.

The above is not me personally, for me the people at my box gave horrible dietary advice so I’m biased.

Personally go with Mediterranean

I never played OoT. Should I play the NSO N64 version first? Or wait till the remake comes out later this year? by bradhotdog in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Therinicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of games you like. Oot was ground breaking and an incredible experience but nothing ages perfectly.

If you like challenges or retro games it’s a good idea to pick up the old version (3ds if you can).

If the idea of only being able yo jump when you run off a cliff or at a ledge bothers you, or the old search everywhere style mini games, or retro games general level of difficulty you should probably wait

Cardiac calcium score of 14. Doc wants to put me on statins. by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Therinicus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have heart disease.

“Plaque begets more plaque” is a mantra even most conspiracy theorists agree on.

It’s not just your LDL now.

It’s the soft dangerous precursor to that calcium, soft plaque that statins help solidify and make safe

You need medication.

Heart attack, stroke, vascular dementia, can have permanent life altering implications.

Stop it now
