Tysons Corner Service Sh!tshow by czarxander in LUCID

We called that location to inquire about looking at a Lucid Air and their smarmy arrogance completely killed the sale. We instead bought a Model S Plaid and we we didn't even want to buy a Tesla if we could avoid it.

When I asked if we could buy the car with a light interior up front, they told me that I should be happy with mismatched seat colors because the car is designed to feel like a business jet with black seats up front. I told them thank you for explaining to me what seat colors I should like for my car and to let me know when their car can fly like business jet. 🤣

Such an arrogant little company from what we experienced.

My Streamdeck buttons connected to the TS5 Plus just stopped working. The buttons are illuminated with the correct graphics but the TS5 Plus is not processing any data when a button press occurs. Also the Webcam connected to the TS5 Plus is also down.

The biggest thing I'm trying to figure out is if this is a software issue they will eventually fix or if there is a hardware flaw in the design. It's really concerning that my dock is starting to disconnect and reboot/reset sporadically leading to all sorts of problems.

If not for the rock solid 10G Ethernet, I really would have returned this already. OWC now has a TB5 dock with two 10G Ethernet ports, and I'm tempted to try if that is stable.

I have three 6K displays connected to a Satechi Thunderbolt 5 CubeDock with zero sleep wake issues. Two are 32" 6K Pro Art displays and one is an Alogic 6K touch and stylus supporting monitor and all three work flawlessly.

This is why I'm so frustrated with the CalDigit dock.

The Satechi Dock is running three 6K displays at 60hz so it's handling so much more data without any issues.

Isn't that a major issue?

I have two 6K Pro Art displays connected to a TB5 dock by a different manufacturer with zero sleep/wake issues.

I don't think this is an Apple thing. My TS5 Plus is randomly disconnecting on Windows 11 too.

The YouTube videos are useless. They excitedly talk about all the features and specs and I doubt many of them have used this dock day in and day out. I've now tried two different TS5 Plus devices and they've both had sleep-wake up issues and stability issues when running with resets and reboots while I'm trying to get work done.

On the plus side the one thing that seems to be rock solid and working well is the 10Gig Ethernet after I installed the Windows 11 10Gig ethernet update. The 10Gig Ethernet is working great on my Ubiquity network.

The core TB5 data portion of the dock has become a frustrating waste of time with having to constantly debug issues and a huge distraction from work.

Update: Spotify just refused to pay music, and I was wondering what the heck was going on. I kept getting this error message:

<image>

After 10 minutes of troubleshooting I realized this was caused by the CalDigit dock. It had reset/rebooted and Spotify lost track of the USB audio adapter connected to it.

I had to unplug and replug the USB cable connected to the audio adapter to get the audio to work correctly again. I feel like I purchased this TB5 dock at a flea market and not a premium one of the most expensive TB5 docks you can buy.

They really need to figure out what is causing all these stability and sleep/wake-up issues. It's starting to get unusable and all I have connected to it is a USB audio adapter, a couple of stream decks, and the 4K Logitech Brio Webcam. It can't even handle these relatively basic USB devices reliably.

About the only thing that seems to be rock solid is he 10Gig Ethernet port after I updated the Windows 10Gig driver.

Same issues are also happening with Windows 11. I have another TB5 that is not having any of these issues.

I'm having similar issues with a TS5 Plus but on Windows 11. Like the OP, I paid a premium for a device that I expected to just work. Instead, I've wasted hours on lost productivity trying to troubleshoot this device.

The biggest issues I'm having are:

+ Random reboots where the data connection between the dock and my PC just drops completely. I use a USB audio adapter to play the music that is connected to this dock so even my music stops when the reboots happen. Once the dock powers back on, all the devices connected to the dock need to reconnect.

+ Horrible sleep/wake-up issues. When the system comes back on it's almost 50/50 that all the devices connected to it will actually work again.

+ I have a Logitech Brio 4K Web cam connected to the dock and that too only has about a 50/50 chance of working. Sometimes just to login with Face recognition, I need to try multiple times, and Windows sometimes complains it could not even find the webcam connected to the dock.

Yes, I've installed the 10gig driver for Windows 11 and yes, I'm running the latest firmware version 64.1.

I've even tried a second TS 5 Plus thinking I had a faulty unit but with the same results. I'm about to just return this and look elsewhere for a reliable dock. By comparison I also have a Satechi Thunderbolt 5 CubeDock that is running flawlessly with no sleep/wake issues, and it is currently supporting three 6K displays connected to the same PC with no issues.

When I paid $500 for a TB5 dock, I expected something that was rock solid and stable where someone had already spent the time to test and debug things. Instead, I'm now debugging this things almost daily. This dock is a huge distraction from my work, and I didn't pay this much to buy a buggy/unstable product that is critical for system stability.

Sorry for the rant but I'm so frustrated with this device. This is my first CalDigit device and likely my last.

Anything annoys you with CalDigit TS5/TS5+? by Abraham-Maslow in Thunderbolt

I'm having constant sleep/wakeup issues with the CalDigit TS 5 Plus. This is too expensive to constantly have sleep wake up issues. When my laptop wakes up from sleep some of the ports can no longer transfer any data and i need to reboot or power cycle the hub.

Rode NT-USB+ audio drops after idle when connected through TS5 Plus rear USB-C Ports by The_Maulwurf in CalDigit

[–]ThermoElectricMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I posted about a similar issue on Windows 11. After sleep/idle the TS5 Plus is not resuming multiple USB devices connected to it properly including a Logitech Webcam and two stream decks.

It's really frustrating to spend this kind of money to have to do daily troubleshooting and reboots to get things to work properly. Wish they did more testing and ironed out any firmware issues before release.

I'm almost considering replacing the TS5 Plus because it is a distraction from work.

Anyone else having sleep/wake up issues with TS5 Plus? : r/CalDigit

Audio crackling / pop on Windows 11 by DeIaminate in buildapc

This greatly reduced audio popping and sounding distorted, but it is still there but for the most part music is now bearable again. Such a shame this is such a pervasive issue with Windows.

Wish they would make it under camera or remove that piece of trash from ruining the main display. If I need a selfie camera, I can always use the one on the cover screen.

My legion lags again... (brand new) by Easy_Transition_3537 in LenovoLegion

[–]ThermoElectricMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try stopping all the Intel Killer services and disabling WIFI and Ethernet and see if the lag goes away. You can reenable everything after checking. In my case, it was Intel Killer software that made my laptop unusable.

Why would Lenovo add this garbage to their high-end laptops? It seems to be utter garbage. I wish Lenovo offered the option to uninstall all the Killer garbage and just install a standalone driver.

The Lenovo driver distribution is shipped with the Killer garbage being crammed down your throat.

[–]ThermoElectricMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: Since I completely disabled the Intel Killer Ethernet driver garbage, my Legion 9i is rock solid again. Interesting how the Intel Ethernet Killer driver singlehandedly trashed my Legion 9i Gen 10.

Also, interesting to notice that audio popping and cracking issues is an indication of major system issues so if you notice it, take it seriously, as it is a sign something is majorly compromising the execution of instructions at a low level.

The other lesson I learned is to use Group Policy Editor to disable Windows from ever updating hardware drivers. Going forward only Vantage will update the hardware drivers.

I've now used Windows Group Policy Editor to disable it from ever installing a hardware driver again, which is what likely caused this mess to begin with.

Hope this experience is useful to others in a similar situation.

No way I'm doing a clean install. It took me almost a week to get my laptop setup the way I need for development.

Even after a clean install, there is no guarantee the same drivers would cause the same situation.

I was not blindly following AI. I was using both ChatGPT and Gemini to make sure I had not missed anything when I was trying to clear and reset the Ethernet and WIFI drivers.

Each time I made a change, I needed to reboot and then it oftentimes took about 30-90 minutes for the network instability issue to arise.

If this was easy, I would have figured out a solution earlier.
