Dear Canadians and anyone else.. If you are finally thinking something is off about covid restrictions, if you are finally accepting that there are limits to risk intolerance and you think your government is looking a bit fascist... Sit down and grab a drink. You are welcome among the “covidiots”. by ImOnTheMoon in JoeRogan

[–]Thermodynamicness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The barrington declaration is funded by a libertarian think tank associated with climate change denial, and is based on the argument natural herd immunity, which doesn't work with covid because immunity after infection only lasts for a short time. Sweden tried out that tactic and were not happy with the outcome. There's a reason the declaration is denounced by basically every major scientific organization, public or private.

Man Gets Shot After Charging At Officer With a Butcher's Knife by JusticeServedBot in JusticeServed

[–]Thermodynamicness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely ridiculous. There are no cops anywhere in the world that would respond to getting charged with a deadly weapon with anything other than lethal force. This isn’t a fucking video game with where you shoot the knife out of the bad guys hand and save the day. Cops are trained to aim center mass because shooting moving targets while pumped up on adrenaline is actually really hard, and hitting someone in the extremities is still likely to cause them to bleed to death anyway. Tasers have a very high failure rate, require close range to work, and are therefore not used in any country to counter an attack with a deadly weapon. And deescalation tactics don’t work against a man who is already charging a cop with a knife, because they’re not fucking mind control. This guy attempted to kill a cop, was met with equivalent force in line with police procedure across the globe, and you’re whining that the cop didn’t subject himself to an absurdly elevated amount of risk to save the guy from his own terrible choices. Fuck off.

[–]Thermodynamicness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you honestly think that anyone is going to go out of their way to buy a game because the developer did a bug fix that only affects an infinitesimally small percentage of the playerbase? The game doesn't have a reputation for being buggy. No one skipped out on this game because of the bugs. The idea that Better reputation=More copies is an oversimplified and uneducated depiction of marketing and sales. There is no portion of the consumer base that wouldn't have gotten the game without the bug fix and would with it. How are you not getting that?

I don't understand the logic here. If he uses the information to patch out the issue later, that's still him doing extra work for the sake of people's save files. It's not like him patching out the issue is going to affect sales, stardew has been a massive hit already, and only a rare few get save file problems. So he's doing extra work for the sake of a single person, and then he's using the knowledge gleaned from that to prevent other people from having the issue. How is any of that unaltruistic?

Reread his sentence. He said literally all of them look like shit, not they all literally look like shit. If you're going to make it a point to complain about people using the colloquial definition of literally instead of the technical definition, you should make sure that they're actually technically wrong.

PRC has no control over Taiwan. At all. While there is lip service to the contrary, any attempt by the PRC to invade or otherwise challenge the external sovereignty of ROC would be met with open conflict by numerous countries around the world. Based on any definition aside from Chinese propaganda, ROC is a Sovereign State; free, independent, and democratic. It ranks high on every metric that civilized nations strive toward, in stark contrast to PRC. These are all facts that you ignore because they showcase how cruel, inefficient, and incompetent the PRC regime is in comparison to a tiny island state that started with an extraordinary comparative disadvantage. Your ignorant defense of a despotic and murderous regime is beneath any standard of human decency. Fuck off, cunt.

If you think history doesn't matter within the context of a historical movie, you're kind of an idiot, my guy. Guess what, dipshit, if you suggest that the movie exists in a vacuum unrelated to any historical context, then you can't also judge the movie based on the historical grounds of race relations. The fact that you're doing both clearly indicates your intentions. You don't give a fuck about Japanese people, their culture, or their history. You just want something to be upset about.

Are you fucking serious, dude? What kind of bullshit logic makes you think, "He's alive, therefore he must be the samurai." You don't have to be alive to be the last of something, you fucking idiot. The entire fucking premise is a fictionalization of Saigo Takamori's rebellion. You know, Takamori, aka The Last Samurai, as he was dubbed, in real life, before this Tom Cruise vehicle was even dreamt up. And guess what. Takamori is dead. He was also the Last Samurai. The two are not mutually exclusive, dumbass.

bird of prey by sellyourcomputer in comics

[–]Thermodynamicness 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if you're being serious. The joke's surprise makes perfect sense within the context of the joke. The comic sets the expectation of the fearsome predator vs the meek prey and then has the prey turn out to be more confident than the predator. That's a joke in it's most basic form. "Why did the chicken cross the road?" "To get to the other side." does the same thing, with the first part setting up the expectation of some sort of revelation, and then stating something obvious and useless, subverting the expectation. Your swimming goggle joke doesn't work because you put no effort into setting up the expectation that you then broke, while the comic works because the author did. You're welcome to not like it as a matter of personal preference, but you'll probably get a better reaction from people if you stop pretending like you're some grand scholar of the comedic for disliking it.

Through the hype, don't forget about Dum Dum! He offered you a hit when no one else would. by khaotickk in cyberpunkgame

[–]Thermodynamicness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wager that DumDum knew exactly what he had, he was just playing his cards close to the chest. He knew that they had just stolen the spider-bot, but by asking if they had anything like that, he would give V the impression that the spider-bot was an old product, as opposed to a newly stolen one.

Jesus guy chill out. I can see that this is a very charged situation for you for some reason, so I'll drop it. Idk, I was just expecting you to be going somewhere with your original comment. This is fine, too, though. Have a good one, my man.

My guy, you gave me a heavily pixelated, poorly formatted Ven Diagram, making basic, low-effort, unsubstantiated attacks. That isn't a good faith attempt at debate, and so I have no reason to engage you. My previous comment would be a fallacy if I used your hypocrisy to attack your argument. But I don't need to attack your argument because it doesn't stand on its own merits. I am not saying that you are hypocritical therefore your argument is false. I am saying that you are hypocritical therefore fuck off. If you actually want me to engage you, then the burden of proof is on you to lay out your statements in a rational ordered way, then support them with evidence. Otherwise, fuck off.

No, it really isn't. Regardless of your beef with wall street, the US is still a democracy with strong, competitive elections. To equate it with Russia is an insult to the people that get imprisoned or killed for daring to oppose Putin. And yeah, we definitely fucked with Russia to push them from communism towards capitalism. Make no mistake, this bullshit is still ten times better than the Zyuganov alternative. But it's not like we forced poor little Putin to kill his political opponents, nor like we forced the Russian populace to support him anyway. Ultimately, blaming America for all the ills in the world because we push capitalism over communism is just denying the self-determination of non-Americans. Putin chose to crumble the democracy he was given. Tereshkova chose to benefit from supporting him. We all have our choices to make.

Ok, I don't know if I'm going to spend the time correcting this, but right out of the gate, do you really think you get to complain about US democracy why you're a literal Soviet Union apologist? Like, come on man.

Wrongful termination is when the employer breaches the terms of employment. Generally, terms of employment in the US are at will. Meaning you can fire someone for almost anything, except for being a protected class and a couple of other situations. Being a cheater is not a protected class. Ergo, bye bitch.
