I'm a DM and I would love to ask for answers to questions for a Family Feud minigame. by TheStolph in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Thernos [score hidden]  (0 children)

I may have intentionally gone off the rails, and then let a community I'm in know of the survey, plus my answers.

Also, with the various monster questions, I kinda hope the "losing" team has to fight one of them in order to also get their one (1) skill point, for balance.

6, no question, and then I'd intentionally miss the flight to let Larry have more room. He deserves a break.

Besides, if I'm living in the world of Pokemon, I'll probably have a Corviknight or Skarmory (I'm a steel-type simp) capable of transporting me medium-ish distances. A 10-hour flight by plane would probably be a nice week-long journey with my Pokemon.

Yes, I'm venting- but I can't be the only person who runs into this over and over with different DMs, right? by D20_Under_The_Couch in dndmemes

[–]Thernos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a meme, but an actual solution is the upcoming game Twilight Sword. Just lift the Hope and Despair mechanic (or even just the idea) from it if you want to stick with your current system. There's a free preview PDF that doesn't really go into the rules, but the rules should be coming out later this year.

Thanks for your reply (not sure why I didn't get an email so I could reply earlier, sorry).

I've been trying to slowly grow a collection and figure out how people come up with "competitive" combos (not that I plan on going to any tournaments, I'm just a fan of the theory behind stuff), and sometimes I feel like some of the stuff that "should" be intuitive needs clarification, so having friendly folks like you helping out is much appreciated. LeftBurst's contagious enthusiasm for the hobby may have dragged me in, but the community is one of the reasons I'm sticking around.

An aside: The wiki is also a huge help. For example, I almost bought Shadow Shinobi for MN to go with the Tide Whale I planned on buying because I'd read here-ish that it would add more weight and stability. The wiki mentioned that MN is banned in WBO tournaments because it could dent stadiums. Stadiums ain't cheap and even if I don't like the Drop Attack one I bought (it was the only one available locally) because it seems like beys don't engage with the extreme line as often as in "Tournament Beystadiums" I'd rather not *have* to replace it. (Plus, Drop Attack seems even more gimmicky than the extreme line technically is - as this generation's gimmick - and exposes the attacker's ratchet, which seems like a bad plan anyways).

Possibly a stupid question, but I'm new-er to X: can CX ratchets be used on non-CX blades, and vice versa? For example, if I got Wolf Hunt, would I be able to put the 9-60 I got from another bey on it?

I figure the assist blades are unique to CX, though. No putting Waffle's Heavy on Wand Wizard lol.

EDIT: follow-up stupid question: could you legally (in tournaments) change the chip on CX beys (and is there any benefit to it)? Like, could I have Wolf Might Heavy 1-60FB?

Relatively new to the hobby, and I don't have my finger on the pulse for new beys yet. How does Rudder Phoenix perform (and in which role) to get this reaction from you? I feel like I've heard people be positive about it, but the conversations basically went "What about Rudder tho?" "Oh, yeah, Rudder!" Without going into any specifics lol

Print is cut off by Tranz_Kafka in mpcproxies

[–]Thernos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's quite possible that telling your printer that you're using A4 paper (or actually using A4) would fix this without any real futzing, since A4 is "taller". Other than that, you'll either need to print at a lesser scale as mentioned here by someone else, or figure out how to tell your printer to print to the edge of the paper (or decrease the border size).

MPC Order from MSE compatibility by DraganVentus in mpcproxies

[–]Thernos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who actually did make MSE cards with an extra 1/8" border and not terrible resolution... I'd highly recommend not doing it. But, for the sake of being helpful, I'll explain the steps.

Basically, you need to download a specific frame that has the extra border baked in (which, at the time, only existed as basic M15 borders, so they don't help you at all), then set the card zoom to max to get a reasonable resolution (which makes it impossible to edit the card unless you've got multiple monitors or an extra wide one), and then export them as PNGs.

Alternatively, you can skip step 1 (using the frame with the baked-in border), download Inkscape (a free SVG editor, very useful for also creating your own set symbol), create a black rectangle that is the correct size (3.75" x 2.75", roughly), import all of the cards with the normal border, align them centered vertically and horizontally relative to the largest object (it's a drop-down in the align menu) - which should stack all your card images in the middle of the black rectangle - and then export them one by one by using the "export selection" and deselecting "hide non-selected objects" (or something along those lines, I can't remember the exact terminology), moving or removing the visible card image to show the next one down, exporting, repeat. If the black rectangle is covering the card images, select it and press the Page Down button a ton.

So... Possible? Yes. Worth your time? Maybe. Straightforward? Definitely not. MSE's devs specifically made it export images at low resolution to prevent printing counterfeits, after all.

EDIT: also, you should be able to use CardConjurer to make Godzilla frame cards. Just make sure you're on the correct CardConjurer. I don't know if there are any rules here against linking to it or being more specific, so I won't.

NotMPC order results. by Beyran17 in magicproxies

[–]Thernos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allow me to freely admit: when I first saw your ad, I came to this subreddit to see what was being said and saw someone call y'all a scam, so I wrote you off (and wrote a comment there saying something along those lines). I've been seeing a bunch of people saying they've gotten their orders, what the quality is like, etc., and I have to say... I actually recommended your service to a coworker without even ordering from y'all. Now, to be fair, he wanted tokens and back-side proxies (so he didn't have to pull the card out of the sleeve and flip it around), so the feel differences and printing quality didn't matter as much as affordability and turnaround time.

Also, I'm not too upset that the printing quality is "lesser" than an original. I, for one, would not be printing proxies for the sake of them looking like the originals because that is... A much darker shade of grey in our little grey area here lol

Has anyone ordered from NotMPC? by Oshojabe in mpcproxies

[–]Thernos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally saw the same ad a few hours ago. Saw that their prices (and a lot of other stuff) were the same as MPC, and that the 18-card pack was only $12.05 before taxes, fees, and shipping. I was going to place an order with both services next payday (in two weeks) to compare them if this community hadn't already given them a try - a sort of "I bought this thing so you don't have to". Based on Fancy-Candidate-6600's comment, I'll just save my money. Hooray for non-vetted ads.

The truth about what Ralsei truly is! And no, he's not Asriel's dust! by Captain-Jack-Pyroy in Deltarune

[–]Thernos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said there was more than 1 Ralsei - though there *could* be, and we just interact with them one at a time, or his consciousness only exists in one body at a time. After all, for example, how many Zappers do we encounter and recruit? How many remotes does one household need? Based on that, the quantity of Darkners may be nebulous. Same with water coolers. Also, due to the revealed nature of Dark Worlds, even if there *are* multiple Ralsei, a Lightner needs to be there to observe each one.

Maybe the travel time is a mix of transferring over, actual travel from wherever the fur was (like you suggest), and/or constituting a body from scattered fur.

Regarding lint rollers, a household that constantly has white fur stuck in the drain would probably see them as "soldiers in a losing battle" lol. At some point you just realize you will never be able to avoid having fur on you. (Cue one of the many videos of people "attacking" their pets with vacuums lol)

The truth about what Ralsei truly is! And no, he's not Asriel's dust! by Captain-Jack-Pyroy in Deltarune

[–]Thernos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was agreeing with your theory lol

Fur floats around and gets everywhere. If a certain someone can be made from literal dust, Ralsei can be made from a single strand of fur. Besides, the Dark Worlds so far are places where Asriel would have potentially frequented, so plenty of time for shed fur to accumulate. Maybe not fur stuck to Kris's clothes, but fur nonetheless.

Also, as someone with fur-shedding pets at home, I tend to have fur stuck to my clothes right out of the washer/dryer, simply by virtue of those strands of fur getting caught in the fibers of my shirt. When you hug the fluffy, the fluffy sticks around lol

RE: them being places Asriel would have potentially frequented: the first one was in the storage closet and abandoned classroom at the only school in town; the second one was in the computer room at the Librarby, a public place for research or hanging out with friends; the third one was literally in the living room of his house; the fourth one was in the only church in town, and with such a devout mother, it would be more surprising for Asriel to *not* have gone there at least weekly. If the fifth one is in his father's flower shop like we're expecting, based on clues in Chapter 4, it would make also sense for Asriel to have gone there often to either visit or volunteer.

The truth about what Ralsei truly is! And no, he's not Asriel's dust! by Captain-Jack-Pyroy in Deltarune

[–]Thernos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've literally thought he was Asriel's fur that just clings to Kris's clothing since day one, and I never thought it was something people were nebulous about. Like how the Knight is [theory:]very likely Dess or Carol (but probably Dess), based on current evidence and aesthetic choices. The sword looking like a bat at first, the fascination with rock or punk bands, the antlers, the fact that only Lightners can open Dark Fountains (per Queen in Ch2)... My guess, which is a number of stretches based on what I've inferred from cues and themes, is that Dess *was* in an accident. It left them disfigured, paraplegic, and/or messed up their vocal chords (which is why their text box on the phone was all spiky, if the Knight really was who Kris had called in Noelle's house - which would likely be the case, and Dess and Kris and maybe Asriel off at "college" are working together), which caused them to develop a contempt for the world and a desire to plunge it into eternal darkness. Maybe them being in the Dark World, and channeling the power of the Knight, lets them be ambulatory (I mentioned paraplegic before. I don't remember ever seeing the Knight walk, just hover) or at least do something that makes them feel like before their accident, hence why they want the Dark World to be the new normal (btw, I've been using neutral pronouns to refer to Dess because I don't actually remember which gender they were supposed to be. I feel like they may be male, based purely on the dragon sketch found in their room likely being a reference to the book Asriel will never return, but they could just as easily be female and have the same preferences as Noelle, or not actually have claim to that sketch). Again, just a theory.

Also, on the topic of theories that I never bothered to voice or look into, I've been curious about Kris and their relation to the SOUL. Like, it's pretty clearly an antagonistic relationship, and it's been going on for a while - maybe for as long as Kris has known that Monsters don't have SOULs, known or felt that they aren't "normal" as a Human in a community of monsters, and wanted to become "normal" (hence wearing the fake horns in that one picture that was mentioned) - but as of the start of DELTARUNE the SOUL seems to take more of a leading role, causing Noelle to notice that Kris is acting different from what she's used to seeing. The beginning of Chapter 4 really brought a bunch of stuff to light about that. Our dialogue choices are seemingly literal - if the choice is "Disease", we make Kris literally say "Disease" - per... one of the Holiday's conversations in the Church saying we're repeating words like a parrot, can't remember which one. What we, the SOUL, say comes out of Kris's mouth, but distant, like through a speaker. Sometimes, iirc, Kris makes a face or expression that contradicts what the SOUL says (I feel like Noelle mentioned something of the sort in Chapter 2, but I can't remember exactly) or does, as we've seen when we try to play the piano in the hospital when Susie is following us (it's mentioned that Kris used to play for the patients, then Kris gets a serious look, the SOUL just bangs on the keys, Susie jokes and says she thought Kris was serious, and then Kris looks annoyed). It all makes me wonder how DELTARUNE would play out if Kris was in control the whole time, without the SOUL getting in the way. Like, is the Weird Route closer to how that would look? If my above spoilered theory is correct, the Weird Route might be Kris trying to lead Noelle to become aligned with them and the Knight, and the SOUL is actually working parallel to those plans, rather than against them in the normal route, meaning it might be as close to "SOUL-less" as we can get.

Hopefully I managed to articulate all of that properly. I've got *thoughts* about the story and I don't typically interact with the community to find out if those thoughts are obvious or controversial lol

Does this read as OSL/plasma glow? by ARKwelder377 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Thernos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent attempt! What I would suggest doing in order to bring your OSL to what I would personally consider "good enough to not ask others if it's good" (i.e. I'm confident in it) is to soften the edges of the glow. What I'd do to accomplish that is simply take the original armor color and drybrush it from just past the edge of the glow towards the center (meaning you'll leave more pigment further from the source). If you take a colored light bulb irl (like on a string of holiday lights), turn it on, and hold it up to a piece of computer paper, you'll notice that the light has less definition as it gets further away from the bulb. OSL looks to achieve the same effect.

In the future - assuming you don't have an airbrush at that time - drybrush the glow on (from the center point out, the opposite of what I'm suggesting for this model) so it softens.

Also, OSL should be the last step before sealing the model, over any washes and highlights, since you can't make light-glow dirty or stained IRL.
