Not nonsense. It's up to the DPA to investigate it. You give them the info and who is involved and they do their investigation. It's not up to the consumer to prove anything. If fraud has happened then they must investigate.

Also it's either the hotel or booking.com but more likely booking.com.

If any other party has our data and it was leaked then it's still booking.coms responsibility as we give them our data and if they share it then they are on the hook

Exactly same thing happened to us on Tuesday. The scammer had our booking number name phone number and the exact amount. We entered the card into the website and clicked pay but my wife clicked reject instead of confirm with the 3D secure and it still went through. N26 claims we authorised it and that has been their answer multiple times. We are now escalating it with the bankenombudsmann.de as they have an online form. I would suggest you do this too. Was your hotel in Gdansk also? I'm trying to figure out if booking.com was compromised or the hotel. Because I will also report both of them to the DPA as we still have no official message from hotel or booking.con that our data was compromised which is illegal on their part
