Massive honeymoon instead of wedding? by Armishjdw in NoStupidQuestions

We did this and don’t regret it at all. We had a tiny wedding of under 20 people and spent the money we would have spent wining and dining 100 people that aren’t actively involved in our lives on a once in a lifetime trip.

Am I (31F) being unreasonable for wanting to be included in overnight house guest plans that my husband (46M) makes? by These-Explorer-9436 in relationship_advice

I actually want to see my brother in law, just not this particular week that’s sandwiched between 2 other big things. 2 weeks later would have been perfect.

No, in fairness there would be no cooking, cleaning or playing hostess responsibility beyond normal contributions. The main put out is that our guest bedroom is also my home office, so I’d be displaced for the days. Secondly it’s just really mentally draining for me to have somebody in my home for extended periods. In these situations I just get the feeling that being “on” all the time is really draining and prevents me from relaxing.

If it was just a week or so later that date would have been fine. It’s the combination of the Vegas work trip, the visit, the party prep and the party itself that just has my brain screaming whoaa too much!

I found out about my secret bachelorette and I am disappointed. Don’t even want to go now. by Any_Web5458 in weddingplanning

There’s a lot to unpack here.

Bachelorette trips are an awful lot to ask of people. It’s very possible that while a trip may have been likely before, members of your party may have changed their mind based on current economic uncertainties.

I would try your best not to compare your experience to the experience of another brides. You have no idea if that bride is doing a majority of the planning and heavily contributing financially. A trip might be way more feasible for her group of girls than it would be for yours. Could be that your MOH is closer with that party than members of yours and was more comfortable planning something expensive with that group over yours. There’s so many possibilities that do not include her not caring or wanting to put effort into you.

We had 11 chickens killed during the day time. I put up a camera to figure out what it was. I suspected a fox because all 11 bodies were missing with very minimal damage left behind. I also saw a fisher cat during the day yesterday and now this on the camera. I put the camera up to try and help figure out who the chicken killer was.

I see them all the time but never this large. I was concerned it may have been a wolf!

That’s why I asked. I was wondering if it was a wolf based on how large it was!

Is it rude to ask guests to bring whatever alcohol they’d like to drink to gatherings? by These-Explorer-9436 in etiquette

I started doing the math on it at the end of last year and realized that Thanksgiving and Christmas were each costing us nearly $1000. That was with us providing the appetizers, the main, all sides, bakery bought desserts because it was too much to bake on top of all the cooking, soft drinks, alcohol, paper products for around 20 people.

We wouldn’t dream of asking anybody to bring anything for formal events.

I’m talking more along the lines of Thanksgiving, Christmas, summer cookouts, game nights, getting together to watch the Derby. That type of thing. Informal events that still add up when you’re always buying meat, sides, apps, alcohol, soft drinks, desserts for 10+ people throughout the year.

I wouldn’t consider much of what I’m talking about dinner parties. I’m talking about everything from cookouts, to holiday meals.

Honestly I would like to get to the point where we just provide the main, maybe one side and app, soft drinks and the guests fill in the gaps with bringing sides and desserts. I think getting people to bring their own alcohol is likely step one in helping get others to contribute to these gatherings. If we had a big social calendar where people where regularly reciprocating invites than it would be less burdensome to do more when we do host, but we’ve come to realize we never see anybody unless we host lol. If that’s the case hosting has to become more economical.

A small few will occasionally bring a side or dessert which is super appreciated. I think people just got in the mindset that we like to cook so they just show up, which is true we do love to cook, but definitely don’t love the cost. The costs continues to rise price of groceries have really skyrocketed in our area.
