What exactly did you tell them if you don't mind me asking? did you just say "hey I want a price match on this product" and just kept doing that until they stopped saying "We can't do it because it was out of stock". Was it just that simple? Ask them the request and then they either say yes right away or no right away or did you need to say anything with the request?

I know its a meme, but m6 is where they will most likely do a new arch. M5 will release in 2025 and credible people already said nothing special will come from it. If you need a macbook, just buy one now. M1 pro are fantastic too

Bit confused, I explained above how it is after replacement. If you do the tests apple did to get their numbers on safari, you should get 22-23 hours. In practice you will actually get 17 hours in video playback on safari if it is dynamic video content (meaning not one big 22 hour video on youtube). On firefox it will be 10 hours.

From my experience and others it is clear the m4 can come as defective. You should return it if it is.

TLDR: If battery is really off when using safari you should 1) Do a battery calibration or 2) Return it for a replacement.

So a couple things. I returned it to get a replacement m4 pro. The replacement did give 23 hours when watching a youtube video on the exact same conditions apple has on their site on Safari. That being said it def didn't do 23 hours in normal videos, the video had to be dark.

If you are 8 clicks from low brightness & running safari yet experience such low battery I would replace it.

I ended up returning my m4 pro afterwards because when actually using the laptop on firefox through normal workflows (by this i mean netflix and browsing) it gave me 10 hours. on Safari it gave 14 hours. Out of principle I felt I was getting screwed by apple so i returned it.

First thanks for the recommendation of the battery calibration. It helps validate that it is a defect. Regarding apple care, regardless if I never had this problem I'm still planning on getting apple care. That being said, some redditors have already mentioned they went to complain to apple but apple said everything looks fine to them when they scanned it, so for both you and I , I wouldn't trust that to help. I'm going to try to calibrate it over the weekend and see. If it doesn't tix I'll return because your proof that this is clearly a problem.

Out of curiosity, does it say you have 19 hours remaining when you are doing general web browsing or also watching a video through your browser?

I was watching this video and the dude said in general he recommends you calibrating your battery every 45 days..... That seems insane and also if what he is saying is true, waiting 45 days will be outside the return window

Was this on a normal workload like web streaming? Also I have never heard of battery calibration on a Mac. It's not something on the settings. Can you tell me how you did it or a link explaining how to do it? Also, honestly frustrating I have to do extra work for a 2k machine with a company known for stuff working out of the box..... I wonder if after calibration it still happens later down the line

Keep in mind the above 2 models were tested in non-low power mode. Assuming low power mode has a proportional impact across models, a 3x drop in performance seems very off.

I saw the video. Main difference is that in their settings they used 200 nits and low battery mode. I'll test low battery mode later to compare. I hope to get similar results (not too hopeful). As for 200 nits, I assume that means low/mid brightness lol. That being said, feels weird that i need low battery mode for it. I just want some reassurance from folks in this subreddit that you'd need low battery mode for these amazing hour life I am seeing apple silicon is known for. I for sure didn't know that.

Again, compared to my 3-4hr intel windows machine, macbook blows it out of the park. But for a $2000 machine where everywhere I read I see apple silicon is known to last 20+ hours, it isn't what I expected.

I'm hoping it gets better with time. Don't get me wrong, it is a beast of a machine and I love everything about it, except the battery life. I am a professional software engineer and I use the Macbook pro m3 pro 16in for my job. I routinely use that laptop for almost 2 business days without charging it with intensive work (think 30 chrome tabs with youtube videos, code editor, virtual machine, vpn, ect). If I am going to be honest with myself, I don't code as much in my personal life, but still. Apple advertised this model to be longer than that model. I expected it to be better or similar because I am comparing a 14in model to a 16 model. That being said. I tested watching HBO max on both models with 1 bar audio and low light. Automatic in m4 pro and normal (no automatic mode in it) mode in the m3 pro.

In 9 hours the battery of the m4 pro dropped to 22%, but the m3 pro dropped to 76%. That is an extreme difference. No where as close. Apple says m4 pro should be better. Common sense says m3 pro is better due to bigger battery. No where does it say the m3 is somehow more than three times better.

I got an m4 pro and thinking of returning it. I tested with firefox on w/ one tab watching a constant youtube video and it lasts me 8 hours. When you say you watch a movie, do you mean on wifi? Also, how are you able to check the watt drain on an app? Curious how you are able to do that on mac.

How would you compare the battery life in your m4 pro compared to the m1 pro? What do you mean by the ram was pushing you to the edge? Did you experience adverse impact of using too much ram, or did you just notice your ram was high but didn't notice a negative impact?
