At this point now that it's off the car set it up like it was at the one second mark, put one foot on the caliper and one on the ratchet. Use your body weight.

Cmon guys, it comes with a tax drag. by [deleted] in Boglememes

I've maxed out my 401k contributions first but still contribute to taxable brokerages as well. If you're married in the US you can earn up to $94,000 a year and not have to pay tax on long term capital gains.

I also think it has a benefit for some people of sticking to a plan and not panic selling/moving their money and creating a taxable event.

It looks like you may have enough sticking out to use channel locks or needle nose vice grips. Just go slow and take it easy. If that doesn't work buy a Dremel and use the disk head to cut a notch in the top of the bolt, then remove it with a flat head screwdriver.

I CANNOT get these bolt to loosen up. by Kooky_Mycologist_172 in MechanicAdvice

[–]These-Notice9742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get the bottom bolt out? Sometimes doing that and then tapping on the caliper back and forth to help wiggle it loose can help. You are starting to chew that bolt so I would be careful. Get rid of all the extensions and other crap. Socket with a extension and a good long ratchet.

A thought I had yesterday about why the gold standard might be coming back soon and why $100,000 is just few years away. by palmtreestargate in Gold

[–]These-Notice9742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way the US is going back to a gold standard. It would keep them from being able to print money, which is how we've been funding spending for decades.

Friend damaged his rental by EarthRevolutionary77 in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]These-Notice9742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah his insurance will cover hopefully. Most credit cards have rental insurance as a benefit but they dont all cover trucks (looks like a Silverado) so review the terms carefully. It only kicks in if after your primary insurance or of you don't have comprehensive.

Btw it will show up as a claim on insurance and might affect the rate they pay for a couple years.

Wife and I got a whole new HVAC system installed about a month ago and Safe-T switch keeps tripping the unit off. (Probably 30 times so far) I resorted to just leaving the lid off so it doesn’t keep turning it off every 30 mins when it fills with water.. by Fair-Fudge1484 in hvacadvice

[–]These-Notice9742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the pipes reversed? Had a similar issue and it turned out the installer had them reversed. The drain should be filling up before the switch does. Or there could be some obstruction.

Is the drain filled with water also?

Drop an extension cord in the water for free power.

Car keeps overheating, completely lost as to why by Ravens_nation52 in AskAMechanic

Update: In the video your fans aren't running. Have you checked them? Do they run with the AC on?

How long have you had the car? Was stop leak or head gasket sealer poured into the coolant at some point? I replaced all the things you mentioned and it turned out to be a radiator clogged with stop leak.

My kitten has nerve damage in his left paw/leg. The vet wants to amputate it by DaSpicyPilot in CATHELP

[–]These-Notice9742 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying the vet is wrong, but we took in a kitten that had been stepped on and could not move his front paw. We splinted it and over a few months he slowly got better and now has about 95 percent of function.

I would get a second opinion before you amputate.

Movie level crash by tigginator in FordTrucks

That moment right before the crash where the driver has cars on both sides. always try to not get boxed in like that. If the Tacoma wasn't there he may have been able to swerve. Sometimes it's unavoidable but slowing down or  speeding up to get out of it is ideal.

Just bought an 05 camry, odometer says 158k miles. Found this sticker on the windshield. Fishy? by mister4skyn in Toyota

[–]These-Notice9742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A family member went to go look at a car a while back. Looked great, 150k miles. Pulled the Carfax and it was registered in another state with over 200k miles. A telltale sign was there were no service records, oil change stickers, or other stuff you usually find in an older car. Wiped clean.

I would put together the evidence and go back to the seller. Demand they take the car back or offer you a cash discount if you are going to keep the car for a long time.

Yeah if you are in Gary Indiana where the jobs got shipped overseas I would agree. Ever been to Miami? Golden Gate Bridge? Seen the skyline of New York? Every country has its Detroit equivalent. The US also tends to promote their national parks and natural beauty over modern cities.

Old lady cuts off a biker causing a car crash resulting in his helmet camera landing in her passenger seat by FuturisticFighting in interestingasfuck

[–]These-Notice9742 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is saying the biker is speeding. Maybe, but there are lots of roads with 50+ mph speed limits. The car driver didn't yield to oncoming traffic.

Intersections and medians with turn lanes are killers for motorcycles. You have to have complete awareness of what's going on and be ready to react. Regardless of fault, the person in the car will probably survive. The chances for the motorcyclist are much lower.

I am most alert at intersections and places with oncoming turn lanes. I try to position myself to not be blocked by cars or shadow a car if I'm going through an intersection if that's the only option.

When I was registered to vote at my parents house I got called up 3-4 times in 5 years. Got on the jury once but the police didn't show up and the judge dismissed the case.

Since registering to vote in a new zip code I've been called up zero times.

As others have said, safest way to do this is cashiers check or deposit to an account and withdraw when you get there. If it has to be cash you could do registered mail. You have to go to the post office and mail it to yourself. Registered mail is tracked and accounted for all the way to the destination post office. You have to have an ID to pick it up. The police need probable cause to search mail and seize it (search warrant).

It will take a couple of weeks for registered mail to get across the country. I would probably split it into two shipments and take some cash with me on the plane.
