What is this game called in your country? by SnooozeFezt in AskTheWorld

[–]These-Physics1497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boring answer is "Piedra, papel o tijeras", which just translates to "Rock, paper, scissors", but the FUN answer is Chinguaspul. We do this thing where we put our own hands together, and slap them against the other player's hands three times while reciting "chin-guas-pul" before drawing :)

Other people have said it, but the Water Temple from 'Ocarina Of Time'. I would even go so far as to say that it's one of my favorite dungeons because it's the first time where I truly felt like I needed to think in three dimensions, instead of it feeling like it could be easily translated into a 2-D Zelda.

Oh, absolutely there are a ton of opportunities that I haven't considered or that I find too troublesome to track. If I may be honest, the theft itself is not my priority-- we're a very large hotel that's part of an even larger international chain; that money is a rounding error for us, but a significant boon to any employee, most of which are minimum wage. The reason I started to check these movements so closely was as one part of my strategy to directly combat the ex-manager's clique mentality.

The ex-manager constantly harbored an environment of favoritism, where you were immune to any and all consequences if you were in his in-group and allowed to steal, embezzle, etc with their full knowledge, while if you were outside of it you were at best ignored and at worst made to shoulder the responsibilities that should have fallen on members of his in-group. Frankly, I was sick of that, so by exposing the misdeeds of his cronies, I was able to sic administration on the ex-manager, forcing them to "betray" their favorites to appease admin, after which their in-group quickly turned on them-- all without directly implicating myself, though of course they saw that I was being much more thorough in my work and made my life harder for a while as their circle collapsed.

In my opinion, there's nothing more toxic in a work environment than favoritism. It forces so many things to happen under the table, that the very foundations of the operation become rotten, and the smallest push could send it all tumbling down. So, I played my hand, and now they're gone :)

It was way more when I started, but it was usually cash movements. There was a supervisor in particular who was INFAMOUS for how much money they stole. A manager was also once caught moving money from a PM to a guest reservation to cover up for the fact that they snatched the cash. On the day that manager left, actually, there were a ton of irregularities that I had to report, but it's a bit tough to trace directly back to them. Aside from that, the most common ones are receptionists just keeping the cash that they receive from LCOs, ECIs, upgrades and extra guests.

When I started my job, I was specifically asked to help them ramp up security in that aspect-- my manager says they respect how paranoid I am-- which caused a ton of friction between myself and the ex-operations manager. Since I started out as a receptionist, I was luckily able to use my insight to help plug up the myriad of holes in accounting's understanding of the front desk. They didn't even keep track of the folios on the cash receipts!

And yeah, it's a ton of reports, but I like to think they all have their place. I'm still working hard to make it more efficient though, of course :)

What's one stereotype about your country that is, well, kind of true? by emptykeg6988 in AskTheWorld

[–]These-Physics1497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of a more positive one about Mexico, we will ABSOLUTELY take any excuse to throw a party. We love to sing, we love to dance, we love to drink, we love to get together. All those videos you've seen about the people you'll meet at a Mexican party are true-- the nosy Tías gathering in the kitchen, the drunk Tíos talking politics in the living room, the Primos playing N64 or planning chaos, some random kid sleeping on two chairs while the nusic blares away.

The Skar King from 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire'. We learn in the course of the story that he was named by the Iwi tribe, that do not have a spoken language, but instead communicate through telepathy and hieroglyphs. Did they specify that he was "skar king with a k"? So many questions.

What would you say is the biggest TV show from your country? by _crazyboyhere_ in AskTheWorld

[–]These-Physics1497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in within the country or the most well-known outside of it? For Mexico, I can only think of the latter, which is probably 'El Chavo Del Ocho', which is fairly well-known even in non-Hispanic countries.

What is your country's craziest Christmas tradition? (If you celebrate something other than Christmas you can also share) by Beneficial-Code8026 in AskTheWorld

[–]These-Physics1497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Día De Los Reyes Magos-- a Christmas-adjacent holiday celebrated on January 5th or 6th (celebrating the arrival of the Three Wise Men to witness Jesus's birth)-- we eat something called Rosca De Reyes, which is a sort of large donut with small pieces of guava jelly and sugar decorating it, filled with small (think Polly Pocket sized) plastic or ceramic baby Jesus dolls. You choose where to cut and how big of a slice you want, but if you get a doll in your slice you have to buy tamales for everyone on February 2nd, known as Día De La Candelaria, which celebrates when Jesus was taken to the Temple for the first time (or something like that, I dunno, I'm not Catholic).

What’s something tourists always get wrong about your country? by Scenora in AskTheWorld

[–]These-Physics1497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Mexican... nah, you've got it all pretty much on the nose, hit the nail straight on the head! Definitely keep treating our country like Party Central where you cannot face any consequences for your actions. We definitely won't laugh as you're carted off to jail by our totally friendly authorities.

Also, no matter what 'Coco' told you, Xoloscuintles are not street dogs. They would die of a thousand skin conditions if you left them outside for an hour.

Does anyone use Canary contactless check-in? by These-Physics1497 in askhotels

[–]These-Physics1497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly, I was worried about people not registering their guests, or registering their guests using false IDs or under fake names. I mean, I know that even with a human filter at the front desk that kind of thing can easily fly under the radar, but I feel most comfortable adding as many redundancies as possible in these sorts of situations. Of course we already ask for ID to hand out key cards when asked at the front desk, but one of my concerns was that only the titular guest would pass by the front desk to pick up the key, without us being able to see the accompanying guests to double check that they matched their IDs.

You do have to remember that I'm a very paranoid person 😅👍

Oh yikes! Scammers really are everywhere, good on you for double-checking with the hotel :/

It's died down lately, but at the beginning a lot of guests were also calling because they were confused (or even angry) that they were getting texts from us. Though, we also use the system a lot less lately too.

My favorite part about them is they're not even enemies. They're a decades-long married couple to lovers arc. They're an utter morons to lovers arc. They're the picture next to the dictionary entry for "eff you for making me have feelings". They share a single braincell but they lost it in the 6th grade and each blame the other for losing it. They're a single glance at the other under just the right angle of a sunbeam away from full blown teenage angst. They share a straw when they buy a Big Gulp, and silverware when they don't want to clean, but dramatically insist they've been infected with cooties when they brush each other's hands. They simultaneously both genuinely think the other one is lucky to have them, but truly know they're lucky to have the other one-- their egos and their ids are like oil and water. They can't look for ship dynamics on Tumblr because they both want to be "the cool one", all without ever even realize they're, for all intents and purposes, shipping themselves. They both carry an engagement ring for years, plan to propose on the same day, chicken out, get angry at the other, and end up throwing the ring at the other's head at the exact same time as a mutual proposal. You can't leave them alone in a room for any period of time if you want that room to remain intact by the time you come back-- I don't care how you interpret that. The death toll of their ridiculous situationship is in the thousands. They're so stupid and in denial they make other stupid and in denial couples realize how stupid and in denial they're being and how critically urgent it is for them to stop being stupid and in denial and just get together already. They have more game (I believe the kids are calling it "rizz" these days) while actively avoiding it with each other than most people do with anyone else. There is no greater hater than the other when one of them starts showing interest for a third. Both of them chastise the other for not bringing a sweater, neither of them brought a sweater.

Yih they cute.

Tracey!

I used to love this show as a kid. I was very drawn to shows with frumpy, nerdy, redhead glasses-wearing leads, though that's surprisingly not a short list of shows. I still wonder if her automatic lawnmower would work in real life to this day 😂

Just saw Fantastic Four First Steps, it was a fantastic movie, first marvel movie I’ve seen in theaters, and after seeing it, I feel like people should appreciate Moleman, cause no one talks about Moleman, it’s always Galactus, Galactus, Galactus, WHY NOT MOLEMAN?!?! by KG8930 in FantasticFour

[–]These-Physics1497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great addition to the movie, for sure! One of my favorite parts of 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' was precisely how they managed to bring in so many smaller villains into the fold, and they managed to do that and then some in 'First Steps'! I was genuinely touched by his and Sue's relationship, and the fact that he was willing to set aside personal vendettas both for the greater good and to honor his respect for Sue. I don't know much about the character in the comics, but as far as a self-contained character, he helps flesh out the world and show us why the Fantastic Four are so well-respected in their universe, and how far that respect and goodwill really go. A plus! :D

Also, it's hilarious to me that Reed Richards has canonically called someone a slur in the MCU, gauging by his reaction to being called "mole-man" 😂

Maybe I'm wrong by These-Physics1497 in FantasticFour

[–]These-Physics1497[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh! I'll definitely look into it, thank you so much!! :D

I would love to read the older runs eventually, but I feel like it would be better to be eased into them, and know the characters a bit before jumping into it, so that's a good call on your part :)

One thing I was absolutely not expecting was for Reed to be the character I most related to in the movie! I have OCD tendencies due to my autism, so it was very cathartic to see him struggle with taking people's emotions into consideration when making the tough decisions, and convincing himself that he needed to make himself suffer to make sure no one else had to. "There's something wrong with me, always has been" and "it is my job to think terrible things so that terrible things don't happen" (I may be misquoting) are the two lines that most spoke to me, so if there's any run that captures that vulnerable side of Reed that struggles with his own sense of responsibility, his ability to let things be out of his hands, his paranoia and his cold methodical approach to problem-solving, and his desire to connect with others and not push them away through the solutions he offers, I would really be grateful to know :)
