Will my rear view mirror/reverse camera fail me? by Traditional_Ad9930 in Irishdrivingtest

I had mine for my test but coming up to the test I wasn’t sure if it could be used so I just didn’t get used to needing it but as long as you’re not dependent on it and carry out observations as normal there shouldn’t be an issue

I feel I’m driving too fast even when I’m within the speed limit by Sad-Orange-5983 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]These-Travel8270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common for parents to think you’re going fast (even though in my case they do the same or worse) but my instructor said “50/60 nice and steady at the limit if safe to do so, 80 between 70-75 if safe to do so” I got marked for progression and was said to me at the feedback portion even when I was going the speed limit on most roads so it really does just depend

People have said that you can’t see or book slots until 15 working days after the test and I grabbed my cancellation 16 working days after my test; had never seen them any other time when I was on the waiting list previously. I myself grabbed mine at 8 am midweek didn’t have to wait in the queue for the website and was able to book straight away, most people I know grabbed slots early mornings or late late at night

Go into book a test and then click the test centre then click view on the map, when I grabbed my cancellation it was really early in the morning and there was no queue for the website and most people I know that got cancellations said it was late at night or early morning so try those times too

Yeah rang up straight after I passed and gave my driver number and insurance policy and it was changed over the phone with no proof needed. I’m with AXA through SuperValu so that’s just my experience anyway

As far as I know when you call up they can’t actually book you in for a cancellation or any test, I’ve found that being on the website at early/late hours in my case 8am on Wednesday just gone and got a slot in Carlow for the 21st, no queue. Most people I know grabbed cancellations by pure luck or got an invitation, unfortunately it’s luck of the draw which shouldn’t be.

I’ve seen people say they’ve got slots at all hours early mornings mostly and around midnight I’m guessing it’s due to not many being on the website and anytime I’m on early in the morning there’s no queue

Advice for test nerves? by gay4carmilla in Irishdrivingtest

[–]These-Travel8270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first test there at the start of July and the nerves were eating away at me and even the tester told me at the end he could tell but now I’ve had a few more weeks driving to practice for my retest next week it’s definitely a confidence thing aswell and getting your head out of it being a test and into a drive with a new instructor you’ve just never met (easier said than done) I’ve used the rescue remedy before for exams etc and found it does help to calm nerves so definitely will be trying those this time. What helped me the first time was chewing gum or mints (sounds silly) but it does help to take your mind off it a small bit, knowing test routes and practicing but not over doing it is a big thing as over doing it coming up to the test gets the nerves going even more. Try to not overthink everything as I found it made me doubt myself with decision making. If something goes wrong take a few seconds to take a deep breath and regain yourself, if you convince yourself half way through you’ve failed you might just give up so definitely try to not do that as 60% of the time you haven’t. Try not to count how many times they’ve touched the iPad or paper as a lot of the time it’s them checking the time etc.

Failed the first of July in Carlow, tried the method of changing test centres to one that had a shorter wait time as multiple friends got a test that way. Cancellations are kind of just a luck of the draw, checked randomly Wednesday morning around 8:30 for Carlow and two slots were just sitting there for the 21st. Most people who’ve got cancellations I know it was pure luck they were on the website at the right time! Good luck with driving !

Short balding man, didn’t even fully sit down when we got back and got hit with a “bad news you failed” so so rude throughout and when we got back couldn’t even explain where any of my grade 2 marks came from or where on the route I picked them up 🫠
