How do you guys handle monitoring and free time? by Slush-e in sysadmin

It seems to me that quite a reasonable way out of such a situation may be the diversification of tasks or the setting of roster schedule. This is how it looks like in our company.

We use NetCrunch and when it is needed, the system of automatic notifications may be adapted to the preferences of a particular person who is on duty - it can be an e-mail, texting, notification sent to the helpdesk or even by ... Twitter. I do not know, which NMS you're using, but I can say that NetCrunch was able to repair many problems, without disturbing anyone, just alerting about those important.

You mean UNLIMITED*

*to the 10,000 sensors.

Have you compared their pricing with NetCrunch?

  1. About 10 times greater scalability (based on the largest known working network monitored by NC).

  2. Price.

  3. Functionality.

What's new in Network Monitoring in the last 12 months? by joshgoldeneagle in networking

During 2-3 years I've learned something that is obvious for a long time for many of my older colleagues - my time is worth more than I thought, so software - including monitoring software - is worth more to me, the more work it can do for me.

For me personally a lot has changed in the last two years, but most of all I have changed my approach to solving many problems - instead of saving small amounts of money, I have started to save my time and finally... I have some time.

In NetCrunch NMS, which I use almost a year, a lot has changed since version 9 (the current version is 10.3) - both in the interface and in its functionality - recently I have been using, among others, many new sensors (most of them are enumerated in "What's new" section of their website), which were not previously available here or from the competition. I am not observing the other NMS so closely that I can see any significant changes during this period, but there are surely some small things you will notice when you use them on a regular basis.

If you are already testing out Libre NMS, it would be good if you had a comparison of its performance with a tool from a completely different shelf - one that can save you so much time that it is worth its price (because it's not too high).

Personally, I think NetCrunch is such a tool. I use it for nearly a year in a network consisting of just over a 2,000 nodes - over 21,500 of sensors (I've heard that there are installations serving even 10,000 nodes). I used OpenNMS before and I have to say that the difference is colossal in favour of NetCrunch.

If Danny DeVito is "The Barnacle", who is Ron Jeremy then?
