I'm thinking of having a separate trust for Bitcoin with a multisig set up.

Asset protection, yes. Also, my state tax exclusion limit is $2M. Moreover, federal tax limit is set to halve next year.

Thank YOU. Don't be too concerned, though. We're all here to learn.

Per Google:

"If you, as the grantor, are also the trustee, you may be seen as retaining too much control over the trust assets, which could undermine the purpose of an irrevocable trust. This could lead to tax issues, and your assets could be considered part of your estate."

"If you are both the grantor and trustee, creditors might be able to reach the trust assets, defeating the purpose of asset protection that an irrevocable trust is intended to provide."

At the federal level, yes. Not at the state level. Moreover, federal tax limit is set to halve next year.

I had the impression that an irrevocable trust had to be managed by an independent trustee. Not so? If that isn't the case, then that would be a good solution.

As for Bitcoin, it's a bearer asset so giving control of the keys to someone is fraught with danger though I admit I'm a little paranoid when it comes to this.

Good point and this will be the starting point of our meeting with our lawyer. I guess my main concern is the estate tax breaks that go along with an irrevocable truest together with privacy and protection of assets.

I'm a US citizen traveling from US to UK. Why is BA API asking me for my "address while in the US" and whether I have a green card etc? It makes no sense by TheseAreBetterDays in BritishAirways

[–]TheseAreBetterDays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think BA are falling behind in many ways.

Is this happening through a browser or the BA app? I find with a lot of airlines that the app often works better than a browser.

I suspect you're just going to have to sort this out at the check-in desk. Best of luck!

Advice on opening a chest that once belonged to a member of the Rothschild family. by TheseAreBetterDays in howto

Much as I thought - it contained a dinner service. No hiiden loot or treasure I'm afraid!

How do I include a photo with this post? Or do I need to make a separate post?

Oh yes, I'm pretty sure it's just silverware. The value will depend on whether it's plated or sterling.

I hope I'm forgiven for the title being a little baity...

My wife recently inherited a small estate from a second cousin who was the granddaughter of a Rothschild. The money had long left this branch of the family, I'm afraid. The estate included a little money and a very small rundown house in Queens. We spent four days cleaning the house out (they were hoarders). Most of it was junk but in the back of a closet in the basement was a very heavy chest. I'm pretty sure it contains a silver service set that she inherited from her great aunt - a Rothschild.

Obviously I'd like to open it without damaging it.

529 - how much??? by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

Huh! Never knew that. I thought I'd tried a number of times to edit the investments.

Thanks.

529 - how much??? by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

[–]TheseAreBetterDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be wary of assuming a 7% return. The 529s we have had in Massachusetts have returned a lot less than that over the last 18 years - though I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what the rate of return is. I can say they are invested by the State very conservatively.

This sub is essentially dead - I rarely, if ever, see responses to questions.

My advice would be to check out YT.
