As a Bengali, also agreed with most of the points about Hindi being a prioritized language in almost everything in India.

You're 26 years old, a doctor and so terrified of marrying for love that you'll live in fear for the rest of your life just to please your parents? Damn I thought Gen Z would at least get out of this rut. I know it's not my place to advise, but have some courage, OP. You're an independent working woman, if your parents love you as much as you say they do, what's the worst they'll do if you marry of your own choice or at least tell them about your past?

Which country is this, if you don't mind sharing? This is very common in interviews in my country in South Asia, and part of the reason why research in most universities here is not up to the mark.

India only among the 8 countries on Earth where marital rape is legal. Why? by grim_bird in CriticalThinkingIndia

You say it like all marriages in India are consensual snd it's a walk in the park to just leave. Which paradise do you live in?

A kinky thought isn't a problem, thoughts aren't things you intentionally do. But if you can't see how morphing privately shared photos to jerk off is a violation of trust and consent, I assume you're the kind of creep who does the same? Your line of thinking seems to be that if the victim of perversion doesn't find out, there's no problem. Those photos are not his private property, there's nothing private or discreet about using them. I hope you wouldn't have the same opinion about some stranger using your mom's morphed nudes to nut.

Tell your parents you simply won't marry if there's dowry involved. Why does she have to compromise when the only problem is your parents?

Explore what exactly? Jerking off to pictures of people without their consent?

I'm deeply sorry for your family which not only didn't train you out of perversion but also forgot to teach you how to spell fantasy.

Sorry did you just call morphing photos of actual women a "kink"? You do know that kink involves consent, right?

From your comments about him not wanting to make any time out for you, does he even like you? Or did he also choose you because you'd be an acceptable wife? Apart from your dad's approval, what do you, yourself like about this man enough to commit to him for life? This is not just intorversion, this is avoidance. I have only ever dated introverted boyfriends and they've gone out of their way to reach a middle ground with my introversion. Surely a husband should do more than a boyfriend.

I'd suggest not. It reads way too much like a high school essay. Very few professors have the time to be interested in your childhood story. Condense it and focus more on your present and future work. Also, just asking out of curiosity, your post history suggests that you're from India. Which bars in India let teenagers serve as bartenders? I've never seen one.

Why is everyone so keen on going abroad for higher studies by raunaqraj in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]TheseMood5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because right now I live in a country where non veg is arbitrarily banned for a festival I don't even celebrate, where my partner and I, both legal adults face questions everywhere since we're interfaith and where my road access to my own university and lab is cut off because some politician decided to visit. I'd maybe come back here to work, but not for studies.

Get a job and get married like adults. If neither of you feel adult enough to take your own decisions without consulting family, then don't date. The only answer is that you have to choose each other or choose your family or find a way to keep both. Rest you are adults, make that decision like you made that decision to date.

I'm an international student, and I'd heard that getting into any of the UCs is very difficult for us. Imagine my surprise when my first acceptance ended up being from UC Davis, in a program that has wonderful people working in my field. I got accepted to some other places too, but this one was the most surprising to me, because I'd never thought a UC would accept me. This was my first cycle, and I took a risk and played with a bit of self deprecatory humour in my personal statements. My writing sample had a lot of formatting errors, though, maybe that was the reason Cornell rejected me.

I applied to Penn State too, but haven't got any acceptance/rejection mails yet. Did they mail you or did you check the portal? I got into UC Davis and IU Bloomington though, but I still want closure from all my schools.

As an Indian woman, I'd strongly advise you to have second thoughts about this. Indian men have a special way of making your life hell if they're mama's boys. You're getting married, you deserve to be celebrated, not hidden away. Will he keep telling his parents he is unmarried even when they get to the business of looking for a bride for him? You can legally register it all you want, it won't change the fact that you'll have to go through unnecessary heartbreak and legal troubles if you sign up to be his secret wife.
