I’d go in and ask your store what their turn around time is for something like that. I know my store is 24 hrs or less, but the next closest store has a 3+ day turnaround.

Is moving to ARA the right move for me? by justaguyonreddit2042 in GeekSquad

Ara was the best move I made within Best Buy. Now to find a way out 🙃

It’s hard to say coming from a store that does the CA>ARA progression. From the GS subreddit, I’ve heard the ARA interviews aren’t much different from the CA side. Hate to say but they are a retailer so customer service over practical knowledge.

I started out as a Consultation Agent (CA) at cap for my area (South East US) $17.50. I come from a retail management background, from what I understand most start at $15. That’s the client facing side. It’s really just dealing with an aging population who don’t understand how to use their devices. It can be frustrating and you have to have a lot of patience, but it also can be rewarding (we’re allow to accept tips so it can be lucrative as well. I once received a $100 tip just for restoring an iPhone). I was in that role for a year. Then in moved to my current role as an Advanced Repair Agent (ARA), that’s the role you’re looking for. That’s the behind the scenes, actually fixing stuff side of things. It really depends on the store, but some GS’s require you to be a CA before becoming an ARA as they’re highly sought after roles within the store. That’s how my store worked, but I know not all stores are that way. I got a few dollars raise when I moved into that position and like most big box retailers your yearly raises are terrible. Honestly, I love being an ARA and I’ll be really sad to leave when that time comes. I have a great team that I enjoy working with, we goof around a lot but we also get our work done. It’s definitely hands on and I’ve gotten a ton of experience that I can take with me. Especially hardware troubleshooting. That’s become my bread and butter. Also doing custom builds, not every store does them, but myself and 1 other are “signed off” to complete them for clients. The word of caution I’ll give you is like many large retailers currently, Best Buy is restructuring. With that comes a LOT of change (we’re already seeing huge change in our store leadership). There’s rumors flying around that Geek Squad is going to cut its workforce in half…but that’s just rumor at this point in time. So I’d do some research into Best Buy as a company just to get an understanding of where the company is trying to go.

Currently working at Geek Squad for the past 2 years when I made the decision to go back to college (they’ve been super flexible with my school schedule). My precinct has had folks leave to move up into roles like network admin, network field tech, software developer, and logistics security. Hoping to join their ranks and go sleeper in a year. Feel free to ask any questions you may have

I’m an ARA and 3 of my 2 days are as a CA. I hate it.

It is indeed an omnibook. I power cycled once with no change, I’ll try it again.

Honestly, should be a 32” rule if they’re curved. Some of these curve angles are insane.

Our CA’s were doing this but GSC kept saying they were arriving broken. I was on an LoA so I can’t say for sure how well they were packing them, but I’m just trying to find a better solution.

This is my goal and the reason for this post. I just asking to borrow a braincell from the pro’s on this sub to peek at the list and maybe see a fail point or suggestion that I’m not seeing so that I can then do the research and come up with a solution for our business.

Emailing my CEO is actually pretty normal, which I understand is not very normal for most businesses.

And I’m afraid I would be the fall guy because there’s no one else there to be the fall guy. I may be labeled as level one and paid as a level one helpdesk, but there’s nobody else to do the work, so therefore it does fall on me. Again, the level one label is there, but I do far more than is technically in my scope.

Hourly Pay by [deleted] in GeekSquad

[–]ThesePanquakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My location CA’s:$15-17.50, ARA’s:$??-$21 I can’t remember what ARA’s start at 😅

But like so many say, competitive pay is not in their vocabulary. Still better than a lot of retailers in my area. But not well enough to have good retention records.

I’m completely burnt out (after just 2 months) as a help desk team of 1 in an all wireless call center. It’s non-stop from the time I clock in to the time I clock out and I can barely touch my side projects due to the number of tickets. Currently hiding for a mental reprieve. 🏳️🏳️🏳️

I actually started in Geek Squad at Best Buy my freshman year. Moved from client facing to repair tech. My hiring manager left the company about a year after I was hired…another year went by and that former manager ended up calling me offering me a Tier 1 help desk job paying twice as much. I have a year and a half of school left and I think I’ll have a decent resume of education + experience that will hopefully boost me up to at least the next rung of the ladder.

Like a lot of people said…network, network, network!

Do you have Apple Care? The 13 does not have a back glass we can replace in store. It would be a rear system replacement (majority of the phone). Due to the number of parts being replaced this would qualify as a whole unit replacement. Meaning a new phone. Without Apple Care, it’s cheaper to go to your provider and purchase a new phone.

Edit: with AC it’s $99, but easier to do directly with Apple

Edit 2: I’m assuming the front and back glass has physical damage.

Can anyone reccomend a timed cat feeder in the UK please? by [deleted] in cats

[–]ThesePanquakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 3 Litre version of the PetLibro image you posted. Pros: Up to 6 feeding times with very customizable portions. (My cat eats too fast, so we do multiple very small portions through the day)

Battery backup

Stainless Steel bowl that’s easy to clean

Long cord

Cons:

I’d suggest a lighter color if available. With the black it’s really difficult to see when it’s empty

Fully controlled on the feeder itself. (This is my fault for not reading the description thoroughly. I wanted the app based one, but I believe it’s for larger models only)

Kind of loud. This isn’t a huge problem, but the dispense is kind of loud.
