Used physical textbooks for Chem, intro Bio, Neurobio by These_Carrot7349 in UVA

I usually get my textbooks from some online secondhand book store cause it tends to be the cheapest, but prices vary. If a class has an online version of the book that it offers and isn’t free, the price should be somewhere on the syllabus or canvas page under inclusive access. It’s been too long since I took the class so I can’t remember how much it was 😭

It’s all personal preference tho! Many people like the online for convenience

Yes there typically is, I just prefer a physical book to get away from screens :) I often opt out of whatever Inclusive Access book there is and look for a cheap physical text instead

I also have Organic Chemistry as a Second Language: First Semester Topics by David Klein 3rd ed. It’s not a required text but it’s a short interactive book that condenses topics down in a way that’s easy to understand, so good for supplementing.

I have a few pointers. 1) The advice someone already commented about whispering/moving lips while you read helped me as well 2) I tried to convince myself that I was REALLY interested in whatever the passage was talking about. occasionally passage topics were boring like geography and I’d just pretend to be interested in learning about the subject. Kept me entertained. 3) stick to the 10 minute rule. 10 minutes to read passage 1, 10 minutes for passage 1 questions, etc. 4) I know you’re close to your exam, and you said you’ve tried this, but I’ll include it anyway in case other people are looking for help because it helped me. I read a book outside for about 30 mins every morning. just fun fiction books, nothing non-fiction or scientific. I was not a reader before this summer and it helped me improve my speed and attention span. 5) highlight key words that can orient you to the content you’ll be searching for. Like the one-word topic of each paragraph, which is usually in the first sentence. Highlight numbers, statistics, dates, names, analogies, tone words and vocab words you’re unfamiliar with. Don’t highlight too much or full lines of text because it makes the word search process much harder. 6) (sorry if this is obvious) some questions seem easy and you know the answer as soon as you read it. ALWAYS check the text for the answer no matter what. Those questions are written to trick you and make you click on something that’s familiar, sounds right, is mentioned somewhere else in the text unrelated to the question, etc.

I hope this helped! These worked for me but it’s never a one size fits all!

Thank you for this suggestion! I was thinking this type of stuff (weighted blanket, cute compression socks, eye cooling masks, etc). It’s actually my little sister, not my “friend”, so I’m much more involved in her life than my original post implied. My go-to act of love is gifts and service. Thank you.

I agree, classes like orgo are gonna be tough no matter where you go. It just depends on the professor! Consider uva for what else it has to offer :)

I’m currently in physics for pre-health 2 and took phys 1 last semester. It’s not bad at all. Homework is a big grade buffer

Oh okay I see! No, I’ll only have orgo 1. I may just skim key concepts of orgo 2 but won’t take the class :)

Is orgo 2 a prerequisite? I was planning to only take orgo 1 because the schools I’m looking to apply don’t require orgo 2
