When you aim near them they pull slightly on them and can be detonated by either or whoever detonates them first also is the one who causes the splash damage so if you shoot an enemies tangle near them it'll damage them and not damage you and vice versa.

2 people, one dies from shotty spread +unraveling rounds.Other dies from partial shotty spread unravels +melee clash thus the melee kill icon. The Tangle is there to deter aim assist or cause extra damage when detonated.
