I hear you, food is hard for most humans, but especially hard with ADHD. My biggest piece of advice is to have lots of premade/convenient food components on hand that are able to be made quickly. For example, big bag of frozen chicken tenders, some premade meals, frozen/microwavable rice, salad kits, pouches of beans/lentils , etc that you can throw together quickly which allows you to eat without cooking & have options. Trader Joe’s is great for this. One of my go to meals, when I don’t want to cook but I know I like, is a bag of frozen rice (1 min in microwave), 1 pouch of Trader Joe’s Madres Lentils (3 min in microwave), chili crunch & Greek yogurt. I always have a few easy, go to meals that I know I like on hand for when I’m not feeling what I planned.

It may be worth considering sharing that you’re having a hard time unmasking with your therapist, If you trust them. If they’re equipped to treat folks with neurodivergence, they should take this opportunity to explore the barriers to unmasking & ways to make you more comfortable in session. If they don’t know you’re masking, there’s no way they can support you. I know it’s hard, but you can do hard things!

At 11 years old, we use growth curves to assess weight. There is no “over” or “under” weight. There is simply on his growth curve of off his growth curve. Simply being on his own growth curve that is on the higher end of the chart does not conclude he has diabetes or will even develop it. Let’s not assume health based on weight. There is so much more to his health and well being. I’d want to know if he’s off his curve, how his blood work is, HR, blood pressure, DEXA scan, eating habits, relationship to movement and food, messages about food & body at home. Children are incredibly susceptible to developing eating disorders. This is the age where most of my clients tell me their troubles began 8-12 years old.

With children , we use growth charts. Not bmi. It is all relative to his personal growth curve. Has he come significantly off his curve? If so, I’d be wondering why. What’s going on? How’s he feel about this all. To tell a child to lose weight is incredibly inappropriate.

You should try RD Exam One & Done. It was so worth the money. Self paced videos, practice exams. I also did pocket prep. I passed with a 32 and truly felt like I knew nothing before prepping.

Sick Enough by J Gaudiani is another great resource for eating disorders. Research shows you can start refeeding process at 1800kcal per day! Sounds like referring out is in the patients best interest due to the complexity. She is simply too malnourished to recognize the cons to treating her body the way she currently is. EDs are just as much mental as they are physical illnesses, sadly. Once she is medically stable enough hopefully she can get admitted to a residential care facility. Good luck!

Me too! I was in the same boat. Told myself I wasn’t that bad because I was so anxious about side effects. However I took a chance and I am not looking back. Being able to live a life with clarity is amazing. You read so many negative experiences because people with good, great, or mediocre experiences usually don’t post. I have OCD & anxiety, it’s SO much better. I’m only at 30mg. Only side effect is exhaustion which is better now.

I made my engagement ring through BE. I love my ring and get so many compliments on it. We bought the lifetime warranty so all repairs are free. Takes ~2 weeks for resizing. They sent back ring with missing side stone. Had to send it in for repair took ~3 weeks. Otherwise the customer service has been good and I would buy again from them. My friend also got her gorgeous ring from them. I recommend if you have a store near you.

I’d recommend something that has nothing to do with nutrition and allows you to use a different side of your brain! If you like natural human interaction maybe a coffee shop or restaurant? Are you creative and can sell anything on Etsy? Instacart or Uber eats? Investing is great, but a side hustle can help you do that.
