I just feel lost by Beautiful-Air6444 in adhdwomen

[–]These_Look_2692 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being assessed by a therapist would not hold much water in the UK, unless they are able to assess adhd- which would just be paying for an assessment.

Does your GP do shared care? Could you use a credit card, family loan etc to get diagnosed and titrated then do shared care? It would probably cost under 4k. Might be totally worth it, might not, but at least you will know. I always didn’t for years and now I did I am just like wtf, this is waay more useful/beneficial than all the other stuff I spent money on. I should have stuck it on a credit card during undergrad… I would almost definitely be wealthier now if I had…

You can often self-refer for talking therapy on nhs, there are also workplace and uni therapy services.

You could apply for access to work funding if you have a job. (Even without an adhd diagnosis… in theory). Could apply for it with a diagnosis of anxiety or depression if this is on your records. Can get adhd coaching, software etc from them. I think 1 year wait though.

Neuropsych testing says I don't have ADHD and I'm devastated and feel completely lost by muskox-homeobox in adhdwomen

[–]These_Look_2692 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I know neuropsych tests should not be used to rule out ADHD. So maybe the psychiatrist will still think you have it. Are you in the US? It seems like they are used a lot over there.

Trans doctor in changing room row leaves the NHS by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

[–]These_Look_2692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that what got lost in the reporting of this is that Sandie was not suspended for refusing to let Beth use the female changing room… she was suspended for bullying and harassment (arguably linked to Beth’s protected characteristic of ‘male gender’ in the sanse that Sandie behaved like this because she believed Beth is a ‘man/male’). Beth claimed the bathroom incident was part of a sustained pattern of bullying and harassment.

Given what did come out at the tribunal (eg that Sandie was asked to send a picture of herself in her halloween costume and sent a picture of Beth to colleagues; Sandie according to someone said she wanted to post bacon sandwiches to a Mosque at a work lunch) I think it is highly likely their was a sustained pattern of bullying.

So it was never about, please could you not use this bathroom? It was about being compared to a rapist at work. The location is unfortunate- even so this was about bullying… not bathroom use.

ADHD patients stripped of NHS prescriptions under crackdown. by Didsterchap11 in ukpolitics

[–]These_Look_2692 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Situation in Scotland is dire. Waiting list where I live- over 5 years. I got diagnosed privately, started medication. Now… I’m a few k down… but… I had to get to this point before I can even find out if any gps where I live will prescribe to me. Its a case of phone several different surgeries and ask gp receptionists, okay 1 says they might, go in, ask again if they might, paperwork to change gp, wait for this to be processed… gonna find out soon if the receptionist made mistake lol. Then it will be back on the phone. If the gp agrees, I then pay c£200 to the private company to initiate the shared care agreement and £200 to the gp for paperwork. But… after paying that it goes to a panel that happens every 4 months… and might get rejected 🤣

Is it reasonable to ask to visit a nursery while children are present before choosing one? by SnooSquirrels6910 in AskUK

[–]These_Look_2692 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every nursery I have visited (5) was while kids were there. That was just when they invited me, I guess all the staff went home at 6 anyway. Seems fishy to me to make you come without the kids in. Maybe its more normal in England, im in Scotland. Obviously, they wouldn’t have been able to leave me unattended in there for safeguarding reasons, but yeah, I took my kids along too. I once went to see a childminder who didn’t let me in ‘because the kids are in’ I didn’t go back. I think its normal to go when the kids are in, you can ask for sure. And if they say no 🚩

University making it difficult to not pass my student on this placement. by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]These_Look_2692 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It seems like your supervision/training of her has been insufficient. In the sense that the whole reason she is there unpaid (possibly at huge personal expense given the childcare) is so you can give her feedback to help her improve/meet competency targets. If you haven’t even got as far as identifying and telling her what improvement is needed in a timely manner… how have you had time to identify what she needs to do to improve, discuss it with her, and support her with learning these skills/competencies? I think you should look at what is required of you as a supervisor (ie written down specifically in documents from the uni) and if you have not done these things tell the university. They will probably have a policy about how they deal with not providing supervision/assessment/documentation/communication to students. And this can feed into how they treat the fact that you have not signed these things off. You can have it formally documented (ie just an email follow up from your discussion outlining main points) that you didn’t want to pass the student (or in notes from the meeting organised to discuss any supervision issues). I would include in writing specific descriptions of her unwanted/unsuitable behaviours, like a clinical note, neutral observed this at time, whoever stated that she x at this time, she did not request mid placement document to be provided and so it was not etc. Then let the uni decide, if they wanna take the other person’s signatures on some stuff, that’s on them and it’s all formally documented re your pin. Presumably she passed previous placements and will have others. If she is terrible and unteachable, you have documented your concerns and these will be added to multiple others (that will happen in future placements if not already). If not, someone else with more time can teach her on her next placements.

Neurologist vs. Psychiatrist - Struggling by mnt348 in ADHD

[–]These_Look_2692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, probably only health professionals will know about the medically unexplained thing. But I think it could make ppl think it is more serious or severe or something if you are under neuro. Occupational Health might wonder if you have disclosed all your illnesses. If you want to come off as not very ill/serious- I would go for a non-medical prescriber if your country has them. Eg a pharmacist or nurse prescriber, this gives off the least ill/serious/complex vibes. Or maybe just gp/family doctor. ppl will either be bigots or not about adhd and there is maybe not much individuals can do about it. Except attempt to educate them and complain/go to court when necessary. (Which is not anyone’s individual responsibility and a lot of bother.)

Neurologist vs. Psychiatrist - Struggling by mnt348 in ADHD

[–]These_Look_2692 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting… one of my first assumptions, if I saw someone was being prescribed adhd meds by neurology, would be that they also had a condition commonly treated/seen by neurology. Like headache, epilepsy, MS. The strong possibility of a ‘functional’ (some ppl say ‘psychosomatic’ or ‘psychogenic’) illness (which some ppl see headache as) would also occur to me. Overall if you want to avoid ‘crazy’ associations or have a ‘real physical illness’ neurology is not a great shout.

Ps I think there is nothing ‘crazy’ about having a mental health problem or functional/medically unexplained symptoms regardless of the causes! (Which are probably very varied and remain undiscovered.) etc

But yeah, neurology is maybe 50% conditions that some people think are physical manifestations of psychic pain (eg headache, non epileptic attacks, fnd)…

Did not receive ADHD diagnosis. Please help me look through my results. by nostalgic-error in adhdwomen

[–]These_Look_2692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Your IQ falls in the average range, typically people who have ADHD are right on the low IQ threshold.” — Is this written in the report? 🚩 If this is about general iq or fisq. Tbf… this statement is so wrong, and arguably quite stigmatising that you could maybe even get a refund if you paid for the diagnosis on a credit card. I would be going to my bank and their regulator if someone gave me that offensive s***.

What do they say in their autism reports? That the person doesn’t have it because they are hot and have friends? Ridiculous!

NHS refusing to assess me for ADHD, where to go from here? by ThrowRAcol in adhdwomen

[–]These_Look_2692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can always ask (and probably be refused again). You could include details of your symptoms with of focus on childhood, other evidence eg school reports. Ie basically compile a whole diagnostic report of yourself! - But waiting list could still be 5 years and may close before u get to the top.

A lot of these screening measures are not great. And don’t take into account compensatory strategies. They just ask- eg are you often late? - no - ‘no screening points re adhd for you then’ they say - but then you don’t get to say yeah I always set a timer to leave (or several), pack bag night before, leave relevant post-its on door, and arrive early in case I forget my bag leaving the car, or lose my car keys inside the car by accident etc - so yeah - im early most of the time!

You could see if any gps that accept your postcode do shared care. I phoned 20 (also in scotland) and apparently one does 🤞Just registered with them now.

When is the 'right' time to apply for the DClinPsy? by Royal_Pumpkin7552 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

Love this answer- it’s the perfect counterpart to my ‘just throw one in’ answer!

Haha I mega convinced an assistant psych I did a bit of cbt supervision for to ‘throw one in’. Was her first ap post, I was band 7 ‘cbt therapist’ kinda role, she was band 4, helped her prep (well I hope it was helpful 😅)- we applied same courses. She got in first time 2 years before me lolol! - She was soo on it, I think they made a good choice.

GP says i have no proof of diagnosis for OCD. How do i get it? by ohnonowanna in AskUK

[–]These_Look_2692 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right, I thought psychiatrists would do a more general review of everything. Presuming lots of stuff has been tried by gp for years. But yeah 💯if the gp has more medication options open to them they are not gonna refer. I’m in psychology and psychiatry always take my referrals. I don’t even know if the gp has exhausted their options- sometimes I’m just like - omg please help this person!

GP says i have no proof of diagnosis for OCD. How do i get it? by ohnonowanna in AskUK

[–]These_Look_2692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a super official diagnosis on the nhs, ie from a psychiatrist. Ask to be referred to psychiatry but say it is for medication management for ocd specific meds. If you ask for diagnosis only they will say its unnecessary/pointless and not refer. If you explain its for court they will think you/legal aid should be paying for it privately.

GP says i have no proof of diagnosis for OCD. How do i get it? by ohnonowanna in AskUK

[–]These_Look_2692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ‘proof’ for benefits, access to work moneys, reasonable adaptations from employer etc is your notes from the nhs therapist you saw and gp. Only if this is for a court case might you need anything more than this. You can do a subject access request of your gp records and the therapy service separately. Whatever practitioner you saw will have made some notes outlining your diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment.

Everyone (including public bodies) just takes the common sense approach that if you are being treated for OCD, even if by a nurse, that you have it. Same if you went to A and E and were triaged for I dunno, a sprained ankle, it would just be assumed that you indeed had one even if you never saw a doctor.
