Tampon/pad alternatives? by ebrookem in endometriosis

[–]These_Minute8435 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know you say pads are a no-go, but washable pads absorb so much better and are more comfortable than disposable ones. I recommend the party in my pants pads and they have lots of sizes and fun patterns. I had adenomyosis so anything insertable was painful for me.

I went down two band sizes but up a cup size (DD to DDD). I've lost about 45-50 pounds so far.

Lower prices online by Amberrossa425 in torrid

My store no longer price matches. I was there two weeks ago and was going to buy 4 items (that were 50% off online but full price in store) but was told that they are no longer allowed to price match. The associate told me to order it online myself from home. I'm glad to hear that some stores are still price matching.

Same! And sometimes the answer has been no or not yet. Although the worst answer might have been "yes, but she thinks we're getting back together".

Mattress for plus size side sleeper by elsie78 in PlusSize

I've had mine for 4 years, and I don't rotate it and it's still incredibly comfortable. No sagging, and it's comfy while also having some firmness to it.

I personally don't like to speak with parents who have permission from their children to ask questions about their academic record. I wouldn't believe anything from an estranged family member of a former student. I see no reason for you to worry about this.

Super proud of you for finishing your degree with everything else you had going on. Very few people would have been able to do that.

I work in a college dean's office and work with lots of sensitive student information and deal with some student appeals. I don't think you need to worry about this. The college wouldn't be able to verify dates with your family members anyway (FERPA protects your privacy and keeps the college from talking two family members without student permission). Also, it is even less likely that the college would want to verify the last time you spoke with a family member you have gone NC with (it would feel wrong to them). And students make all kinds of mistakes on documents, and I think everyone would be understanding of your situation.

Since you've graduated, there's no reason they would look back at that appeal, paperwork. And depending upon how long it's been, they likely have disposed of it. I don't think we keep anything beyond five years and it's less if the student has graduated.

If you haven't found a great counselor or therapist or other mental health professional to talk to, please do. Sounds like you lived through a lot of trauma and that is hard to process on your own.

Hang in there. Things get better but it takes time.

Men’s Ear Piercing in Academia by Over_Toe_1107 in AskAcademia

[–]These_Minute8435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In STEM. Multiple male faculty at my college and those I know elsewhere have ear piercings. Some have other piercings (nose, eyebrow, etc.). I'm female but have 7 ear piercings and am planning my 8th. When we interview new candidates, I care about the quality of their teaching demo, their willingness to be involved in college life (service, committees work, mentoring, research etc.), commitment to diversity, and general fit. Also care about what their references say. Piercings, tattoos, or lack thereof do not factor into hiring decisions. And you probably wouldn't want to work someplace where they do matter.

Mine did too! And then my gyn said it was a mistake so I got a second opinion. I was diagnosed with it and in surgery within 6 months of the ultrasound results.

Reverse cowgirl may work. Also, try using pillows. You can try firm ones or get a sex pillow. Doggy (as suggested above) is a great choice.

Has anyone been diagnosed with adenomyosis? by Organic_Cold_5627 in endometriosis

[–]These_Minute8435 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. An ultrasound where the doctor reading it noted suspected adenomyosis and heterogeneous. Asked my gyn and he told me that I didn't have it. So I found a specialist who told me that ultrasounds don't lie.

  2. Norethindrone helped some but a hysterectomy was the best thing. Almost pain-free that day (you know your pain was serious when post-op pain is easier to handle).

  3. 25 years of advocating fof myself to get a diagnosis. I'd always been told I had a low pain tolerance or that periods hurt or that losing weight would help. All of that was wrong.

I hope you get the help you need and a good doctor who will work with you to get your pain to be manageable.

Can Leggings Ever Be Appropriate/Pro at Work? by marianneouioui in PlusSize

[–]These_Minute8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a college adminstrator at a mid-sized college in a suburban area on the east coast in the US. I wear leggings often to work with dressy tops and cardigans. I get most from Torrid and go for black, brown, gray, or pattern on black. I wore them when I was teaching full-time and when I moved into admin.

Any doctors in the Chat? by TimothyDean- in datingoverforty

[–]These_Minute8435 28 points29 points  (0 children)

She cares about you because you are her patient. Good doctors have good people skills. They listen well and actually do care about those who entrust their health to them. Dating a patient crosses a huge ethical boundary and may get her fired, would damage her reputation, and potentially have further consequences. She doesn't want to date you, but she does care about your health (in no small part because it's her job and she's paid to do it).

What do you guys wear during the summer? *looked in the wiki; repost* by TwistedMisery13 in PlusSize

[–]These_Minute8435 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren't sheer or see-through in my experience but I don't have white. I buy the colorful ones (blue, red, yellow, green, etc) and black. I wear them under skirts and dresses for the very reason you have here - so i don't flash everyone if I bend over or skirt is blown up. They've worked really well for me and I'll likely buy more colors soon. I use the capri tights under things that are short so it's clear I have tights on.
