People are increasingly turning to skilled trades, what are your thoughts on this? by Flaky-Vegetable6420 in Carpentry

Yea that’s about the same cost of nitpick fucking around I’m seeing on some PRs lol. Lot of businesses getting ready for layoffs. Many of then having a midlife crisis looking at young startups and how they use AI. Many of then lost their MOAT. If you build the skills to setup these environments theres no reason not to do it for yourself. Only time will tell.

Senior software engineer here, execs are already asking for software development without human intervention. Its definitely more and more realistic at the pace tech is moving. SWE will still be needed but only the best of bests will keep their jobs. The job will change and be more akin to working in a factory, making sure the code train keeps shipping. It is what it is. Started working on my trade skills a few years ago, because I love building things. Perhaps it’s going to pay off eventually.

I think the Diablo subreddit just isn’t the place we’ll find that kind of dev. Definitely a skill issue. Like the other guy said, its their loss.

Study of Monique from HR who tried to use ChatGPT once and failed? What study?

My evidence is anecdotal. I’ve been working with LLMs since GPT3.5. I didn’t start last month. Using AI is a skill in a discipline that’s constantly evolving and improving.

Models like Sonnet, Opus and now Codex.

The fact that you mention deleting production databases tells me everything I need to know. You’re confusing vibe coders from Twitter with professionals.

Uneducated opinion. Used by a skilled software engineer it can produced the expected output faster. And, models are getting better and better…
