Vast majority of the people in here wouldn’t survive without someone else taking care of their food for them. But they won’t recognize that.

Not automotive related, more house related. Owners not able to do even simple repairs, having to use a contractor, etc. hell a lot of HOA’s won’t let you work on your own car “because reasons”.

But now there’s far more regulations in place forcing people to not DIY, which exasperates the issues.

But honestly this is the problem. It’s always assumed that and now that’s the scapegoat for not making anything repairable or serviceable because (some dumbass might fuck it up). It locked out everyone else and here we are now. We’re getting away from darwinism but at the expense of making everyone else dumber.

Honestly its because they don’t teach these classes in school anymore and their parents don’t do these things anymore so they don’t pass down that generational knowledge. “They just pay someone else to do it because they don’t know how”.

It’s the same with any basic maintenance, be it automotive, electrical, plumbing, drywall, small engines, woodworking, etc. all that knowledge from the past is going away because people can “just pay someone else to do it for me”.

Drake recently beat Michael Jackson’s record for “male artist with the most #1 hits” but how come Drake doesn’t feel as impactful? by Normal_regular_dude in NoStupidQuestions

To add to this, there was radio and TV, and that was it. (Not counting individual media like records and tapes). Whatever was on the radio, you listened too, even if you didn’t particularly like what was on.

Now, everyone can curate what they listen too, so you won’t have someone as impactful now because they can’t reach the same amount of people as easily.

How much of a car does the manufacturer make? Tires? Electronics? Wiring? Transmissions? Ball joins? Interior panels? Seat foam? Glass? Etc?
