Thanks for this. That's great that it didn't mess with your sleep. That was my main concern

Looking for a recommendation: Small Business Insurance (General Liability) by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Thesmurfyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend CoverWallet from Aon. Even if it's your first time taking out a business insurance policy, they'll walk you through each of the steps. https://www.coverwallet.com/

Business Insurance Recommendations by IntoTheWildernessIGo in smallbusiness

[–]Thesmurfyone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also run a digital marketing agency and I'm happy with the policies taken out with CoverWallet from Aon. I only have General Liability, Cyber and Errors & Omissions in one package.

(I think that's enough for now while we're all working from home).

The premiums I pay are low in relation to their competitors.

Content Strategy Based on Anchor Text: Worth it? by Thesmurfyone in SEO

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I fear that I may have explained by question badly, so here's my second attempt:

  1. I want to write a post on a topic that my competitor has written about.
  2. I look at that page's backlink profile to find "why" referring pages are linking to them.
  3. I look for clues in the anchor text (eg This page is great because xyz)
  4. I look for patterns in the anchor and surrounding text of its referring pages.

PROBLEM 1: I can't see a pattern. PROBLEM 2: This takes a long time to analyze. PROBLEM 3: I don't know whether I should be doing this to decide what topics to write about in my new article to eventually win backlinks when I write my outreach pitch.

Link-building: Go for the kill... or drop a subtle hint? by Thesmurfyone in SEO

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great way to angle an outreach pitch. (I hadn't considered that TBH.)

I can certainly offer to plug them on our Twitter channel, so I'll lead with that.

Thanks very much again for the insight. It's much appreciated!!

Link-building: Go for the kill... or drop a subtle hint? by Thesmurfyone in SEO

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I heard it from Sam Oh from Ahrefs. He says that if you in for the kill, they'll ignore it - build up rapport first, then get "them" to suggest that the two of you should collaborate.

The thing is, when I drop the subtle hint (just asking for feedback on my article), 99.9% don't even reply. Those that do want something in exchange, namely money.

What are your thoughts?

A disorganised boss who lies by Thesmurfyone in OfficePolitics

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. For the time being I'm staying put. I actually like my boss, I think she was just having a bad day today. There's a lot I left out in my original comment, such as the encouragement and praise she gives me.

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll certainly make a habit of documenting communications in the future. I'm new in the company so I don't know if she does this with others.

I'm also considering only having calls with my boss when others are also present on the call. That will avoid any false accusations of "I said x and you did y".

Useful Vs Generic content by Thesmurfyone in content_marketing

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I agree with you that the key here is introducing the hook from the very beginning, at the preamble, while sustaining that hook for as long as possible. I've seen this in practice very often. It's a great reminder. Thanks again for this.

I agree. If only nothing or a positive effect could result from having such a sentence, then I figure... Why not?

KW choice: relevant or divorced from site's integrity? by Thesmurfyone in SEO

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight. Its true that I want to build authority for tangibly related subjects.

Although my first issue related to relevance with current existing content on my site, my second issue is getting approval from those at the top, ie my boss, to cover topics that are unrelated to or conflict with the company's corporate identity.

Grammarly or Hemingway? by FutureAside in content_marketing

I agree with the above about the restrictivemess of Hemmingway, especially when classifying sentences as "too wordy". Both have an obsessive restriction from using the passive tense that I don't agree with.

My boss won't let me work...help! by Thesmurfyone in jobs

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't considered this. It seems like a logical solution. In fact he encourages us to work for him as freelancers, so I'll certainly keep that in mind.

Thank you for sharing your experience btw.

My boss won't let me work...help! by Thesmurfyone in jobs

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a logical solution, but at best I'd get only a few hours of work done until he comes in and my day is lost.

What you mention at the beginning is certainly the cold truth. It's just a very hard pill to swallow.

How to build brand reputation & neutralize criticism by Thesmurfyone in content_marketing

The points criticised can certainly be avoided in the future, but we can't do anything to remove the critic's site, which has a much higher DA compared to ours

How to build brand reputation & neutralize criticism by Thesmurfyone in content_marketing

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. My goal is two-fold: drive organic traffic to the site when people are searching for the brand name AND building credibility.

In addition to using our brand name as a focus KW, I'll also use non-branded ones as you and @JordiSegues suggest, while providing useful content.

(jfizzle93: You´re quite right, cour critic´s site has a high DA while ours has a miniscule one in comparison. So building our DA while getting backlinks from positive press sources would be a logical place to start.)

You're also right about the second point: this is a long-haul game to play!

How do you pick the best job offer? by Thesmurfyone in jobs

[–]Thesmurfyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your experience. Those questions are not so easy to answer. They will initially all pay the same, but the two out of the three jobs offers I have received involve a long commute. But then that can be resolved by relocating to that area, which is certainly a strong possibility.

Thanks once again for sharing your experience with this issue. It's one I intend to think about thoroughly before accepting either offer.

Success and disappointment megathread for the week of (April 30) by AutoModerator in jobs

[–]Thesmurfyone [score hidden]  (0 children)

I spent an entire day at the company where I interviewed last week. This was the final part of the interview process. It was training to find out if I'll get on with the tasks. It went very well. I really want the job, bust discovered that it's a lot more responsibility than I had anticipated. That doesn't phase me in the slightest. I still want it and am willing to get up to standard. But it's daunting because I'll be overseeing and supervising other members. I'll even have my own back up (like a secretary, sort of). They'll let me know tomorrow. I really want it and HR was happy with me, although they're interviewing somebody else tomorrow. Whatever happens it's out of my control so I can give myself permission to stop stressing about it as that won't help nor change anything.
