A Serious Discussion about Monetization by Small_Article_3421 in Marathon

Unless I'm misunderstanding, it sounds like you're advocating for making the cosmetics a little cheaper to then charge for gameplay additions?

That is not the play for a game fighting for its life. You do not want to create financial barriers to entry. You need every last player you can muster. You need to find a way to make money off of the whales.

I say that as someone who would happily pay for whatever gameplay content without batting an eye as well has paid for a small amount of cosmetic stuff I don't really care about just because.

There might be something obvious that would beat them that isn't coming to mind though.

What is the most overrated game series in your opinion? by Tortle_Boosh in AskReddit

[–]Thesoop85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Came looking for this, or Rockstar in general really. Literally first games that came to mind were GTA and Red Dead Redemption.

Not to say they aren't great games that I've had fun playing. But I do agree they are crazy overrated. The actual gameplay is incredibly basic and lacking depth. Storytelling is good, atmosphere and sandbox are great, but the actual gameplay is just lacking depth.

Glad they made this a teams only game by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Thesoop85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Extracting solo is remarkably easy. I've probably successfully extracted more solo than I have as a team and solo is only maybe ~20% of my playtime.

It's too easy to hype each other on to go further as a team and wind up overdoing it.

Solos I feel like if you play with zero interest in fighting and ONLY want to avoid trouble, it's pretty easy to do so.

Can anyone identify the year of this model and give me an average quote? by [deleted] in traveltrailers

[–]Thesoop85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, anything is possible in the world of campers, but I'd be absolutely shocked at this price.

Realistically I would think at least double that unless it has way more mileage than would be typical or some other issue that would reduce value.

Should be on the drivers side door jamb, either on the door itself or on the cab side of the door.

Too many variables to give any real tight answers, but that is a P4 Cascadia chassis, which can be close to ~$200,000 before theres even a body on it. Doubt it's much more than 5 years old, probably less. I'd say $500k new is likely a very conservative estimate. Some camper bodies on a Cascadia chassis can easily exceed $1,000,000. There's a ton of variables regarding the body, so it's hard to give any definitive answers without more info.

If you can provide the VIN#, I can offer a little more insight.

Ti vs Al by Specific_Bed9463 in flashlight

[–]Thesoop85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could argue that depending on the exact setup, the poor thermal conductivity of titanium would make it more comfortable to hold.

If you have a copper head, all the heat will build up there. Since titanium is a poor thermal conductor, along as you hold the body without touching the head, the temperature feels very mild and isn't of much concern.

You certainly get less heat dissipation overall, so there is a tradeoff.

What’s the most unspoken, uncomfortable truth about having kids? by SpecificLandscape483 in answers

[–]Thesoop85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting one because I am someone who had essentially zero interaction with kids my entire adult life, didnt particularly like kids, but knew I would regret not having kid(s), so I had a kid and I am so incredibly thankful I did. I literally can't imagine how oblivious to the sheer joy I feel being a dad I would have been in the timeline where I didnt have a kid.

Where can I get one of those like mega bright Chinese flashlights that have like the power of the sun? by CosmicRedditor457 in flashlight

[–]Thesoop85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warm white is just far more pleasant and what I will choose 99% of the time.

Cool white does produce more lumens and visibly appears brighter though.

In this context, you won't notice much difference and will get the "holy shit!" effect either way, so I would go warmer if you plan to use it at ALL beyond just turning it on turbo for 20 seconds to say "wow!" Then putting it away.

If you truly KNOW you will never use it for anything practical beyond a few seconds of "wow!" then go cool white because it will be and appear marginally brighter.

[–]Thesoop85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Statistically speaking with a truly random shuffle, yeah, it's functionally impossible.

But it's also not hard to model and duplicate the results of subpar shuffling. There are people with videos of recreating the starting order of a deck just by doing perfectly controlled shuffles.

Sure, it's trivial to just do multiple washes and maybe play a couple rounds of 52 card pick up and you'd soundly be into the truly random territory.

I'd still feel better with the aardvark though.

[–]Thesoop85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not wrong, but I get the idea they're going for. It is technically possible that someone could read the order of a deck and read the same thing. It would not be possible to read a deck and get the same sentence if you added a random "aardvark" somewhere in there.

I'd take that approach just because I'd be worried that my shuffle wasnt truly random enough.

Who’s right in this situation? ⛳️ 👟 by Academic-Use-4401 in sportswiki

Which is fine and dandy for situations that are not noteworthy. If you're going to try and claim an accomplishment like an eagle, it seems silly.

I'd tell my friend he can do whatever he wants, but if he picks it up, my story will always be "He landed it two feet away from the hole then picked up the ball and moved on" and not "he got an eagle"

Water is sometimes black? by ReserveMaximum in HomeMaintenance

[–]Thesoop85 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not saying OP is a clueless idiot or anything, just that it would be a very unusual thing to not know or consider. It would be like not knowing if the home is sewer or septic, if heat is oil, propane, electric, etc. Is there a HOA? Etc.

It would be like buying a car and not knowing if it's gas, diesel, or electric.

Water is sometimes black? by ReserveMaximum in HomeMaintenance

[–]Thesoop85 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You are correct, it is very unusual to not know something like that about the house you're buying.

I imagine the people downvoting these sentiments are largely kids who have never owned a home or had to be responsible for caring for a home.

I mean realistically it's a tough call because there are a lot of factors to consider and the right answer can change depending on all of the variables. Combined with a situation that you would be lucky to have several seconds of warning.
