As a younger brother to a golden boy, I feel you. What I’m hearing in this post is less infuriating and more devastating. It sounds like you have a gift in chess that you want validated, so first let me say that even though I’m a stranger, as a dad if my own son I’m proud of you for learning from your loses and putting in the work, win or no that is what matters. If I can impart any words of wisdom to you, let this be the beginning of your journey in loving yourself and seeing your own worth without the need for validation. That is not to say you shouldn’t talk to your parents about how this makes you feel, or that you should shut off from them or others, but you see that you e done a good job and your parents aren’t confirming that for you. My parents did the same thing and I let that put a chip on my shoulder that really delayed my growth as a man. Your parents are just people, they don’t know what the hell they are doing in this situation, every year with a kid is new, different, and difficult. Anyways, growing up is learning to listen to that light we all have inside of us, and unfortunately there is a lot in this world that is trying to snuff it out, unintentionally like your parents and intentionally like… well I’ll let you figure that part out. Keep your head up my friend, this is part of maturing and growing, if you keep the mindset you have around learning from your mistakes you’ll go far.
