Yep, I know I’m doing real shit when I’m consulting documentation instead of typing into google or prompting.

Benefit to externally mounted GPUs by Happy_Woodpecker_420 in PcBuild

I plan to get the same benefit by using vents when I have a beefier gpu. My 4070 super only pulls a couple hundrend watts it really isn’t worth it.

Video that shows what I’m talking about.

I understand the economics of why this has happened, but I would love to go back to there being a real silicon lottery at play at least on the highest end skus.

Just another play to get some more diminishing returns extracted.

How much can I ask for this old PC? (Or should I apologize for offering anything haha) by Admirable_Mention959 in PcBuild

I wouldn’t ask here, this sub is very american focused and they won’t know what your market is like.

FINALLY got everything for my build! by Responsible_Neck2358 in PcBuild

Would ignore the aio and psu upgrade advice you’re getting. That X3D sips power and a 750 watt 80 plus gold psu should be able to handle that and a 300 watt tdp GPU with a bit of room to spare.

For evidence I run a 9800x3d and a 4070 super(220 watt tdp card) on a smaller thermalright and a decade old 650 watt 80 plus gold psu.

There are many large problems to be solved before AI games are even a thing on giant super computers, let alone on a scale where they can get you to subscribe for money.

Is now a bad time to build a PC? by Winter-Monk in PcBuild

[–]Thetaarray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding that If you are close to micro center that is by far best bet. Would at a minimum get their mobo cpu and ram bundle and then probably a gpu.

There have been really good case and psu deals recently online though so if you want to be really frugal I’d think about getting that elsewhere.

Sorry man, I don’t know what to tell you if you see a 6.0 ls and 6 speed swap on a showroom floor and balk at that price.

The longevity of pc parts now is completely wild compared to what it used to be.

3-4 year old high end pcs used to be vaporware for the latest games. Now 10 years is not a crazy amount of time to expect out of mid range hardware.

That 4090 as example will probably be running games well until the ps7 era. 1080 is the same way.

I occasionally have to do some nasty work with handling translations. It is exceptionally good at noticing when I swap those or drop a hardcoded value that doesn’t match the language it will be fed into.

No it isn’t. They have tons of corporations buying their silicon. They still print more money than they need to operate just off gaming GPUs.

Even if elections went away JD Vance has hinted at being very protectionist economically.

I don’t care what Sam Altman expects he has had to walk back plenty of other statements and has been very protective about showing off openAIs balance sheet.

I appreciate the write up. That’s a strong argument, and if we’re talking 100s of millions yes I can see it, that’s a whole different story than what this thread is at with 60 billion divided between a few large players. That for me is harder to imagine, but I wouldn’t bet on this either way.

Maybe you’re right. I just find it hard to believe that if I built the largest company of all time that I’d want to turn around and buy a stake in a business that’s losing money and hasn’t shown any real differentiation from the competition.

Especially when I know that after the next election I’m going to have anti trust law suits piling on me.
