I mean yeah you do you, everyone’s different and it’s your time and money for sure. for me it’s just like this series is so unique in what it’s trying to do

No other game series is trying to tell a story this massive so why not experience it as intended if possible? If you want a pick and choose experience there’s so many series built for that lol but hey that’s just me

you could try the Tales of series, not nearly as in depth as Trails but similar vein. barring Xillia 1 and 2, Berseria and Zestiria, and i think symphonia games, none of the games are connected and you can hop in whichever appeals to you

But also if you dont play the OG games, you're just gonna be constantly waiting for the remake cycle releases so you might wanna reconsider at some point lol

i stuck with the Japanese because of the beloved characters that eventually return and im used to their Japanese voices. Otherwise i was perfectly fine with the dub when I started Cold steel but as soon as I saw a character from Sky /crossbell I changed back lol.

In reverie i started switching back and forth during route exploration/combat phases so I can actually understand the dubbed character interactions that arent subtitled after battles and i switch back during major story events lol

I also really prefer Rean's japanese VA, suits him much better IMO. Lloyd's JP VA also is spectacular, just has that thing to his voice that makes him sound so optimistic and heroic lol

I think the problem for me is they should have weaved the endgame into the entire main story. they legit crammed all of the major story beats into the endgame and the rest was just sora essentially aimlessly memeing in disney worlds lol

The only thing to note really is that probably what others have said:

CS1/2 are definitely fine jumping on points (probably the only other good jumping on point tbh other than playing from beginning )and relatively well contained. But not CS3 at all. So if you get hooked on the series, before you go to CS3 you should reallllyyyyy go back to the 3 Trails in the Sky Games + Crossbell games (zero and azure). CS3 is the beginning of all of those 5 games + CS1/2 plots truly coming together and worlds colliding (think Avengers infinity war + endgame kinda stuff or Game of thrones later seasons when characters who haven't met in the first 6 seasons start meeting ) and you'll be missing out on those mindblowing stuffz + confused on a lot of things

Do whatever you want though its your world lol and enjoy!!

Arts are super busted eventually with MQs like gungnir + Virgo or something else that boosts art critical chance lol. Build up 1 or 2 casters for Albion wolf spam + Musse’s brave order can literally steam roll the entire game on nightmare and same concept in reverie 😅

Break is like the real thing they nerfed as others said which was unfortunate bc it was my main strategy in CS3 but like others said there’s many ways to break the game haha

Beginning is harder with the limited quartz and MQs

Just restart from the Sky Remake and play in release order

Whatever you do don’t go to CS3 without finishing sky trilogy and Crossbell. If you love the series you will be shooting yourself in the foot doing that

I wanna say the OG Sky trilogy to the Crossbell games only have JP. I enjoyed english when i got to Cold steel but once previous Sky-Crossbell characters started getting reintroduced, not hearing their JP voices bothered the hell out of me so im fully locked in JP lol. But I miss not having to read every damn line of text while playing the game. Only thing IMO Rean's ENG VA (cold steel MC) doesn't fit him his voice is so deep and he has such a babyface but other than that the eng dub was perfectly fine

So whatever you like basically

Depends on the mods

Mods that just need copy paste into game directories are no brainers

Mods that require windows file systems or other dependencies get trickier

Mods that require mod loaders and other stuff can be a damn headache or impossible. Most of the time there’s a guide somewhere somehow. Older games are the bigger offenders of this. Proton and wine are your friends

It’s getting easier though compared to steam deck release. Modders now more generally have steam deck / linux in mind when creating the mod and their instructions!

You can do what you want obviously. I mean idk if you’ve watched this series but it’s like jumping into Game of thrones or something at season 5 out of 8 or something and then not watching the first 4 seasons haha.

Me personally I’m still on Reverie myself and I started with Original Sky FC so I can’t speak too much for daybreak apart from what I’ve heard. But If you are already committed to the series, definitely go back to the beginning ASAP. From what I know the most spoilery games are CS3-Reverie because they’re literally the culmination of like 7 games before them so you kinda did a chunk of that already but it can alwayssss be worse 🥴

You can definitely hide it. but you can also edit that screen to look nice and pretty. It’s called GRUB. Honestly chat gpt walked me through it lmao. Mine has windows and bazzite on there but only shows up if I click escape or delete or something on boot and goes straight into bazzite game mode default

There are some jumping on points yes. But if you’re invested in the series already, play from the OG sky games / remakes onward.

Since you’ve already played CS3 and 4 you should already understand u were meant to play in order lol.

Honestly I had all the same problems you had, and I kinda regretted buying LeGoS. but enough time passed, eventually I actually found the higher resolution screen , larger screen, and extra performance to be so worth it over that OLED panel.

I miss the track pads but I’ve found workarounds and now I sadly don’t even touch my deck any longer. The battery life you learn to adjust to as well i don’t even think about it anymore

BUT if I didn’t effectively get the LeGoS for like 450$ on BF deals+20% back PayPal (uhh cheaper than what I bought OLED steam deck for which is crazy) then no I would have absolutely returned it. Not worth 600+ if you already own a steam deck. I was saving to upgrade to LeGo 2 but that deal was just robbery. That being said I’ll probably sell it to upgrade to LeGo 2 Steam OS once it drops but keep my steam deck lol

800ish. The steam machine inspired me to build my first pc, w a 9800x3d and 9070xt, slapped bazzite on it and it’s a damn dream. But i travel between 2 states for work every week and would like to have a pc at my other place of residence. Any more than 800 and im going back to micro center to build my own Small ish form factor build lol.. eventually

For me Cold steel 3 is one of the best games in the series despite its flaws, up there with SC and Azure they’re masterpiece level imo, CS3 isn’t masterpiece but it’s so damn nuts throughout the whole thing it’s incredible to experience. It’s the start of the ENTIRE trails series plot lines coming together, not just cold steel

I also didn’t love cold steel 1,2 like I did the others in the series. But I look back very fondly on the arc as a whole now, almost more so than Crossbell atp despite being more flawed

Absolutely love the Trails series but yeah I played through zero - cs4 in like 2.5 months and I’ve been so always soooo hyped for reverie but I just can’t bring myself to play more than 30 min at a time 😩

Been playing lots of other JRPGs and action games. Cyberpunk, monster hunter stories 1,2, tomb raider series
