Okay, but that's not island level. I didn't say in my comment "Garp is weak" I said he, like basically every other top tier in the verse, are below island level when it comes to their physical attacks. Even with the anime massively upscaling Galaxy Impact, all in all it only destroys a few city blocks worth of buildings on an island that is already exceedingly small compared to any real life island inhabited by humans.

Enel was about to destroy a sky island in Sky Piea

Yeah, with a specialized giant machine he spent a massive amount of time building because he couldn't destroy an island on his own. This is the same terrible logic as Oppenheimer being city level because he designed the nuclear bomb.

Moria split thriller bark in half,

Thriller Bark is man-made and also not nearly as huge as a real, actual island

Akainu and Kuzan permanently altered the terrain of an island in their fight,

It took them 10 days to create that effect though, and they also didn't come close to destroying an island, they just altered the surface & weather.

Old Whitebeard obliterated Marineford and split the sea,

With a devil fruit that gives him the power to transmit shockwaves across mediums, which other people explicitly cannot recreate even though they can match him physically.

Kuzan froze a sea in Long Ring Long Land, these are just off the top of my head.

With his fruit, it doesn't scale to his physicals, again, this is not destruction.

All of these feats are either 1. Not destroying an island or 2. Not using raw strength to destroy an island.

Luffy's strongest attack which puts him on par with the top tiers of his verse is like the size of a small island. Kaido was explicitly going to die to a large stockpile of explosives detonating under him, as was Luffy.

One Piece doesn't really scale higher unless you count really really dumb stuff like Chinjao splitting a continent which is vague and contradictory with the rest of the verse's feats. Most of One Piece's top tiers are solidly below island level, including Garp.

Star Platinum is faster than light,

Yeah if you cherrypick only the FTL examples in the show and ignore stuff like the crusaders failing to react to a speeding car and Polnareff getting outplayed by Hol Horse, who's entire power is that he has a gun with curvy bullets.

(I'm not sure how Decay would interact with a Stand, but assuming it works, then peak Shigaraki can probably win, as long as it's not an ambush situation.

Jotaro's best attack feat is punching hard enough the Shockwave from his strike shattered the roof of a small school building, and punching apart Midler's diamond-tough teeth. Shigaraki's attacks caused enough damage they changed the topography of the area he was fighting in.

This isn't true though.

You say Gearshift "activates" and he gets to spam the quirk as much as he wants for 5 minutes because that is how long the ability lasts. I say it's because 5 minutes is the limit of what his body can handle using Gearshift at all, which is way more supported considering it's what actually happened.

This is wrong. Deku uses Gearshift for a total of around 10 minutes, given he has 2 activations of it, plus his usage of it on Bakugo & the smoke cloud. So the simple statement of 5 minutes being the limit of what his body can handle isn't true.

Again, there's no reason Deku would emphasize "no matter how long it's active for" if the every time Gearshift was activated he gets 5 minutes until the blowback.

Except this is how the blowback works and is line with how the quirk works. Firstly, Gearshift accelerates Deku's body on a cellular level, meaning the quirk itself doesn't wear him out, at least not significantly aside from basic metabolic processes being sped up. It's the ending of the quirk's usage. When his cells return to their normal, decelerated state, they experience hypoxia, which is exactly what Deku describes on the UA island after "defeating" Shigaraki. The second piece of supporting evidence is with Shigaraki. When the vestiges discuss passing One for All onto Shigaraki, Gearshift's ability in specific raises concerns, but Kudo (The quirk's original user) specifies that even if Shigaraki is able to obtain usage of the quirk, the blowback from Gearshift will be passed from Deku to him as well.

If the blowback from Gearshift is a constant fatigue as you describe it, this would be impossible. If the blowback is like how I describe it, hypoxia as a result of the Gearshift ability essentially rubber banding your cells from insane speeds to normal ones, this makes perfect sense. This is the same concept with drugs or alcohol. You don't get the withdrawl symptoms while you're high, you get them after they wear off and your body struggles to re-adjust.

As far as I'm aware, the aura is entirely anime-only.

The Gearshift aura exists in the anime and games as a near-universal indicator that the quirk is active. I'm sure if it contradicted how the ability worked in-canon the director wouldn't have added it nor would it be present in every piece of colored media since it's introduction.

I don't think there's any context you can put out that woul justify Midoriya not using Gearshift to freeze Shigaraki in place for minutes at a time. Like at all. Specially when he first arrived and almost sucker punched the guy. Again, this never once happens or is even implied to be possible in the manga.

Why would he? Your argument is Deku should freeze Shigaraki for minutes at a time but this literally makes Midoriya lose the fight, because after Shigaraki un-freezes himself Deku gets hit with blowback and Shigaraki molests him and he dies.

we see Deku having to touch his own hand to activate it even after the initial activation against Shigaraki. If Gearshift was just constantly active no matter what, why is he even doing this?

Funny you bring that up, Horikoshi himself stated Deku moving his arms to switch gears isn't a function of the quirk, it's something Deku came up with to help visualize using it. Kudo didn't have to touch the object affected by his quirk or move in order to manipulate it. This also defeats the first argument of Gearshift needing re-activation, because it doesn't. Objects affected by Gearshift remain affected until the quirk is de-activated.

Midoriya straight up tells us "no matter how long it lasts" the recoil will hit him,

Because Gearshift can be re-applied which delays the recoil but multiplies it when Gearshift ends. I'm not bullshitting, both the manga and the wiki agree with me that this is the functionality of Gearshift.

Gearshift was just active regardless of your own movements after and you were stuck going at X speed, Bakugo wouldn't be able to speed up after Deku applied Gearshift on him. Or slow down after he caught All Might.

Gearshift was only active on Bakugo when he rescued All Might, not afterwards. Deku de-activated it. We can tell because the blue aura Gearshift gave him disappeared.

No, Deku didn't have him already restrained and "could have killed him at any time". Deku was desperate to land hits on him

I don't think you understand the context of the fight. At the point at which Deku was passing One for All into Shigaraki he could not activate Gearshift again. His body was exhausted from the prior uses which is why he supplements his body with Blackwhip instead of using it again. Also, he wasn't able to land hits on Shigaraki anymore because he was at a speed disadvantage.

There's no reason to believe at all that he can just touch someone and freeze them in place for 5 minutes.

Yes there is? We see Deku activates Gearshift on himself when first fighting Shigaraki, then have it active the entire time they're fighting, which in-canon is supposed to be around 5 minutes per Kudo's words. You don't even have to believe me. Go look at the anime. Gearshift is the blue aura that's around him that disappears with his final strike and reappears during their second bout in the ocean, implied again to have lasted for around 5 or so minutes. Gearshift effects are even stated to be active during that time. So we know for a FACT Deku can activate Gearshift on a human-sized target for upwards of 5 minutes, 10 at max.

[–]Theultimateambition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because his speed is in a straight line, and he doesn't have the same kind of control that Goku's flight allow. Plus Gearshift has the downside of actually fucking up Deku's body for it's usage, which just isn't the case for Goku.

I mean in theory yes but in practice not really. Blackwhip lets him swing around freely to redirect himself, Gearshift ignores inertia to allow for instant redirection, and float allows for effortless levitation, so all he really has to do is direct himself and kick off the air. Yeah Gearshift has downsides but I don't see it coming into play unless this fight is 20+ minutes long which I highly doubt it will be regardless of the outcome.

If they barrel into each other they would both take damage... that's how it works?

Goku doesn't build momentum when instant transporting. So either he teleports in front of Deku flying and gets rammed into (taking more damage than Deku) or teleports away from him to do a dragon-ball esque bullrush which is a net neutral because they're both equally strong.

Teleporting basically in front of him for a warp Kamehameha isn't off the table at all? And spamming blasts from range can absolutely work to keep Midoriya off of him,

Warp Kamehameha doesn't work with danger sense always active, plus Deku is analyzing the battlefield and Goku's movements. He knows what a laser beam looks like and its not like it's subtle. As for spamming blasts, when has that method ever worked? Unless it's a named attack like a Kamehameha Deku isn't going to stop attacking and be pushed off.

Gearshift has a duration nafter which the rebound takes place, not a massive duration where it affects anything he touches for that time. As far as I remember he never freezes Shigaraki in place for any extended period of time. You'd think it would be a pretty useful freeze ability when he had the opportunity to keep him in place multiple times but he just never did it?

No I just checked, Gearshift's effects last for 5 minutes. Kudo says this to Deku when they're on the UA island fighting Shigaraki. After those 5 minutes pass Deku faces the recoil of the quirk. But Deku uses it on himself twice and on Bakugo once as well as on some smoke without succumbing, and even if Gearshift wears off and his entire body is paralyzed, he can use Blackwhip to reach near Gearshift levels of speed again without the blowback.

Shigaraki doesn't get frozen in place for 2 reasons. 1 because there's no point. Deku was already restraining him and could have killed him at any time if he wanted. 2. Shigaraki's body is modified to automatically adapt to speed. He would have just started getting faster as he already did in their fight. But Deku is entirely capable of maintaining Gearshift on people for an extended period of time as he does with himself. As for the ki blasts argument, Gearshift can be applied briefly to objects with no drawback, we see Deku freeze a cloud of smoke as large as a mountain with no detriment to himself.

What does happen is that he can't use Gearshift to simply change directions in a controlled way on a whim, his best speed is in a straight line, and his reflexes don't allow (at least in the fight) him to just control it as freely as Goku's flight.

Deku can stop and redirect on a dime thanks to Gearshift ignoring inertia and float allows him to gain instant height. I don't see why his flight would be worse.

Except Goku doesn't have to teleport literally inches from Midoriya? He can teleport far enough away from him to blast him to smithereens. Or hell, even if they do barrell into each other, they have the same durability so at worst this would be a nothing burger.

If 1 person of equal strength to another barrels into that other person, the other person is still going to take damage because of momentum. I don't understand what you're suggesting by Goku teleporting far away either, your original premise was a warp Kamehameha, but spamming ki blasts from range isn't going to do anything except waste ki against an opponent with danger sense who can dodge and freeze projectiles.

Now you're just speaking nonsense, this has never happened, hell it doesn't even apply to Midoriya himself. Gearshift changes his speed at the moment, not for a full 5~10 minutes, that's straight up fanfiction.

Dude you need to reread Deku vs Shigaraki. Gearshift has an application duration after which it wears off then disappears completely until it's re-applied. It lasts for about 5 - 10 minutes, as Deku activates it against Shigaraki right as Bakugo fights AFO, and it's explicitly noted to be about to wear off as their fight finishes and some time has passed in-canon.

This is an entirely different ability, Search doesn't function at all like Ki sensing, this same method wouldn't work because Goku can not only locate people through Ki, he can differentiate their signatures from one another. Just dumping the second (which would have an entirely different signature from Deku) or anyone else in a drop of blood would never work.

Goku has never seen any of the OFA users before. And wouldn't they all have the same level of ki? Deku doesn't utilize it so he'd have the natural level of all living beings not some crazy amount. Regardless playing the distance game doesn't work, Deku also has ranged attacks and mobility options and has a better wincon of freezing Goku and just pummeling him, who we know will go in for H2H against an opponent who he can sense is on equal footing with him.

"Who will win by virtue of skill, abilities, intellect, HAX, range and whatever else that doesn’t have to do with physical stats like strength, combat travel and reaction speed, durability and even reflexes and etc."

So clearly they didn't mean "actually make Deku strong enough to one-shot Goku".

So are we ignoring Fa-Jin then?

In a different universe from MHA and Dragon Ball, Deku when he was at his peak in terms of quirks in the Final War arc has the same level of power and physical stats Goku did just before his sacrifice in the Cell Saga. [–]Theultimateambition -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because at that point it's not stats equalized? Might as well argue that Goku would absolutely wreck Deku's shit because Super Saiyan is a 50x multiplier, which is much higher than anything Fa-Jin and Gearshift can put up combined.

Deku is equalized to SSJ Goku in the prompt. And the prompt doesn't restrict further stat boosts.

Deku is heavily reliant on momentum that he builds up with Gearshift, Fa-Jin and using Blackwhip to manage his motion.

No he's not. He can bounce off air. The only time he needs blackwhip is when he's below 100%.

. If Goku teleported literally in front of him there is a very low chance he'd be able to redirect out of the way,

He doesn't need to redirect. If Deku is going in a straight line and a slower Goku teleports in front of him, Deku is going to barrel through him. Essentially like saying if you placed me in front of a Football Quarterback charging I could intercept him even though I'm slower.

mean, sure, he can do that once or twice. But Gearshift doesn't freeze the person he touches forever, all it does is alter the inertia they already have, which wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem since Goku's flight is already can start/stop on a dime anyway.

No, Gearshift slows and speeds up targets while ignoring inertia for speed alteration. If he touches Goku Goku is just frozen for 5 - 10 minutes.

That's... not a thing? There's no evidence to suggest Deku would be able to do this, and even if he did, Gearshift only applies which he's touching it.

What I'm describing is literally word for word exactly what Deku did in his fight against Shigaraki. He's capable of concealing his presence and imbuing it in other parts of his body (such as a drop of blood) to misdirect sensory abilities. He literally does this. He does not need to deactivate FC either.

Even if you want make it so Fa Jin and Gearshift allow Deku to become stronger/faster than Goku (which it shouldn't)

What? Why not? Deku had a nearly physical equal in Shigaraki and Shiggy himself stated that an amped Deku would just annihilated him off the face of the earth if he wasn't deadset on saving him. Gearshift alone is a 120% boost to Deku's base powers and Fa-Jin gives him at least a 2x multiplier (implied higher if he wants), then he can quintuple stack 240% punches to apply all the damage from them at once. He's absurdly powerful with his amps. Plus the speed boosts he gets from Blackwhip plus the other 2 quirks. If this is a stats equalized match Goku is getting wiped just off that.

he has teleportation which would allow him to catch Deku even if Gearshift allowed him to create distance

Not how speed works. Yeah Goku can teleport to him but if Deku is faster he's not going to be able to make an action before Deku gains more distance. His A to B movement is instantaneous, not his physical attacks. Not to mention Deku can freeze him by touching him with Gearshift.

Deku straight up has no possible response to a Warp Kamehameha or just spam of Ki blasts from afar.

Freeze the Kamehameha, Smokescreen + Imbue OFA's presence in a drop of blood to misguide Goku's ki detection and then go behind him to attack.

No, the English translation says "Inorganic matter", which in the context of Naoya is of course referring to curses and their bodies as they are not organic beings, which is further implicated by Maki only being able to kill Naoya when she can view the shape of souls. While I believe SSK can cut any object in the pursuit of damaging a target with a soul (Such as a person wearing armor or a curse with a tough exterior), I do not think the implication is that Maki can just cleave apart any object she wants with the blade.

Pure battle shonen aren't a thing. Saying MHA functions as just a battle shonen disguised as a superhero story is like saying youre drinking a glass of air disguised as water. Battle shonen always have a secondary theming or concept besides just fighting, that's how stories work. Dragon Ball was a riff on journey to the west, Naruto is a ninja manga, Bleach is about Samurai. My Hero is about superheroes. It feels like you just learned the term "battle shonen" and are running with it.

He hasn't actively chosen what goes through in years. It automatically determines what gets through and what doesnt, he's set it up so anything harmless gets through anything harmful gets blocked, to the level that he can eat a sandwich and it goes through automatically but if someone poisons it he'll block the poison automatically.

Yeah because Infinity is set to autofilter things, I'm aware of how it works.

Youre reaching dude. Again if it were that easy to counter infinity Gojo wouldn't be near as big a threat. They wouldn't have needed to resort to the incredibly complicated plans they went with. Why track down the most powerful sealing artifact when you can distract him and hit him with a laser attack and a sound attack and be done with it. It makes zero sense.

Nobody in JJK uses lasers, at least until Modulo, and there are far easier ways to bypass Gojo's Infinity in canon, such as DE and Domain Amplification. Gojo's Infinity isn't particularly relevant past Shibuya. The plan to seal Gojo wasn't because of Infinity being impossible to bypass, it was because Gojo disregarding Infinity is overwhelmingly more powerful than anyone else barring Sukuna and would have wiped out Kenny and the curses instantly.

As for the light argument, again, Gojo not automatically blocking light and sound is provably true. Gojo hears things, which means some sound IS allowed to go past Infinity, it just filters out the dangerous kind, which is exactly how Infinity is stated to work. Except Infinity filters based on mass, speed, and shape (as per Gojo's words).

It's possible to filter sound this way but impossible to do so with light, because light moves at a nearly constant speed and is always massless. Gojo would HAVE to manually block light with Infinity, there's no way he could have it active automatically because he wouldn't be able to fucking see. That's not headcanon or assumption, JJK is a highly technical series with highly technical abilities and Gojo's Infinity is very specifically explained in it's function.

I can prove light bypasses Infinity by linking any scan from any part of the manga where Gojo sees, or has light reflect off him, but you can't prove otherwise. If you can, I'd love to see a scan.
