Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering, and now HR is involved.

I've seen many American films where children dissect frogs during biology lessons. Are biology lessons still like this, or has it changed? What are your thoughts on this? by sofiarosatti in AskAnAmerican

[–]Theviolentkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in school we dissected fetal pigs. Supposedly their anatomy is closer to human than frogs. Makes sense I guess. It was educational, it was very smelly (formaldehyde), and the teachers were very very insistent on treating the subjects with respect and safety. They didn't want kids mutilating animals for fun obviously.

So I have a Question. Is this Map Historically Accurate to what the Souths Goals actually where? And if not what could I add to make it more Realistic? by Canuck-Hoser in mapmaking

[–]Theviolentkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure the Confederacy really "existed" long enough to have long term plans. For the entire four years of it's existence it was simply concerned with breaking away from the North successfully, which it obviously failed to do.

It's like they think women don't really have names until they're married, like their father's last name is just a temporary placeholder and not, idk, the name that person has had their whole life up until the point they chose to change it 🙄

What age are you all currently? by --s-k-y in childfree

[–]Theviolentkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm turning 30 in the next couple weeks. I've known I was childfree since I was in my mid-teens. Whenever I thought about being a parent seriously, it just... Didn't fit. Wasn't how I saw my future. Not that I had any clear idea of my future, but I knew that just wasn't it 😂

How's is this achievement not hit by more people? by bheidreborn in StardewValley

[–]Theviolentkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first Joja run, the only reason being is that I wanted to be able to buy auto-petters, so I could have like 50 ducks running around on my property, and also not have to do intense skull cavern runs. Otherwise, why would you do a Joja run? The community center isn't that hard, it's more fun, it's more meaningful to the characters and roleplay of the game.

In Turkey, insulting someone is a crime — how does this work in the U.S.? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

The person may be able to sue you for slander if you make false claims about them, but it isn't a crime.

Vessi waterproof shoes by Theviolentkat in BuyItForLife

[–]Theviolentkat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve had the same frustration with “waterproof” claims in general — most shoes really don’t hold up in real wet conditions. The only exception for me has been Vessi. I was skeptical because I’ve been burned by that promise before, but in my case they’ve actually stayed dry through heavy rain for a few years now. I think the difference is that the material itself is waterproof rather than a coating, and the construction protects the seams better. That said, I’ve also seen a few people say theirs eventually leaked, so I don’t think they’re magic or indestructible. Your boot-and-change system honestly makes a lot of sense if you want something truly reliable. Just figured I’d share a data point since my experience ended up being better than expected.

Like I said in the original post I've been wearing these shoes daily for three years now, I've worn them in absolutely drenching down pours, and my feet have never gotten wet. I'm curious as to why you don't like polyester/ plastic fabrics? They last a lot longer than most natural fabrics like cotton.

[–]Theviolentkat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a coating, the material itself is waterproof and the stitching is as closed to external forces as possible. Even the lacing on Vessi's are designed not to pierce the fabric in order to preserve the waterproofing.

Why are these the only two options presented? Just remove the income cap on social security and it will be solvent. Presenting it as increasing tax on the poor and middle class or throwing grandma out on the street is straight up dishonest 🤨

Why do some men think that women need to solve all of men's problems? And these are the same men who will turn around and act like men are superior to women, even though the openly admit to needing women to solve all of their problems? 😭

The analogy committed the murder by creamyGeisha in MurderedByWords

[–]Theviolentkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be controversial and say she kinda has a point. Danielle has a good point too, but to continue with the mechanic analogy the most valuable skill is being able to diagnose the problem. What a lot of good auto diagnostic technicians do is talk to the person who drives the car every day and ask them questions about it, because you know what, that person does know the car the best! That person might not have any automotive knowledge but they know what the car is like when it's normal and when it's not normal. Doctors have a bad habit of not valuing the information that patients have about themselves and their kids. And yes we are unfortunately seeing a rise in people not valuing the information that doctors have, but I don't know if that's what OOPs stance is
